This is a frequent thought of mine, every time I purchase a ticket I think 'what if?'

What would you do if you won an unbelievable sun of money - £54,000,000 for example?

Lovegossip · 02/02/2023 13:55

Quit my job, buy loads of land and have an animal sanctuary

BethDuttonsTwin · 02/02/2023 13:55

Make my loved ones secure. Pay for private medical assessments for my parent who is ill. Buy homes in my home city and on the Gulf Coast of Florida and split my time between the two. That’s as far as I have got.

Fladdermus · 02/02/2023 13:55

I'd go on a mega spending spry to IKEA then extend my house so I could fit it all in.

Floofyduffypuddy · 02/02/2023 13:56

Yy to previous postrr I would buy decent size House enough for adult children to visit with gc for instance comfortably... but no way beyond 5 beds.
Nothing huge, no where I'd be scared alone.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 02/02/2023 13:57

If I won that type of money I would
Buy a bigger/nicer house.
Get a couple of new cars.
Make provision for my adult children, my school age child and my grandchild
I would then take financial advice as to how to protect / grow the money.
Then I would form a charity to help local causes. Along the lines of that nice Scottish couple who support causes close to their hearts and homes.
I've always thought you could do so much good with that kind of money, once you have provided for those you want to.

doublechocolatedigestives · 02/02/2023 13:59

Love daydreaming about this.
In order
Pay off debts.
Give money to some friends and family who I know are struggling
Set aside money for the children's future
Buy a house
New car
Get an interior designer, tell her how I want my house and leave her to it
Take family on much needed long holiday
Come back to lovely redecorated house
Liposuction and tummy tuck
Get braces because my teeth are jacked
Kids in private school

cortisolqueen · 02/02/2023 14:03

Pay off mortgage
Book a holiday
Probably buy a new car
Book to stay in posh camper vans at whatever festivals we want to go to

Nadal · 02/02/2023 14:03

Give up work.
Buy a large house.
Buy houses for adult step kids
Sums of money to immediate family and certain friends to spend how they wish
Set up trust funds for children.
Identify small charities to donate to.
Anonymous donations to people to change their lives.

Travel
Attend major sporting events around the world.

Just generally enjoy life and make a difference to others.

teapotfullofsquash · 02/02/2023 14:04

Buy a house. Put money away for the kids. Start a business and gift the rest away.

MotherWol · 02/02/2023 14:04

Work towards a better version of my current life - better housing, some nicer things, outsourcing some of the day to day stuff, but ultimately not changing the important things that much - I don't want to give up working or relocate or anything. The ultra rich lifestyle wouldn't be a good fit for me. So probably use the rest of the funds to either establish a charitable foundation, or work with an existing one, to support causes that matter to me. Imagine what you could do to tackle poverty and inequality with that kind of money, for instance!

slug · 02/02/2023 14:09

House/looking after child, travel etc. Then..

I would set up a trust using half of the money (who needs £57 million?) The purpose would be to provide grants to immediate and extended family members for:
House deposits
First vehicles
Business startups
Travel
Education
Most would only be available for the under 30s, barring exceptional circumstances (family breakdown, acts of god etc)

I'd look into developing schemes that support young people from disadvantaged groups (young mothers, inner city kids etc) to set up and sustain small businesses. My initial idea would be to provide workspace with power/internet etc and financial support and training with the aim of growing the businesses to the point where they could move into their own premises and flourish without free/subsidised premises.

I've obviously ruminated on this quite a bit on my commute

BuddhaAtSea · 02/02/2023 14:10

Buy a little house by the sea in Southern Italy.

Smartiepants79 · 02/02/2023 14:15

Pay off my mortgage and do all the work in our house that I’d like to do. Maybe move when the dust and settled.
Pay off my sisters mortgage and maybe give some gifts to my cousins. Pay for my nephews to have whatever education their parents thought was best.
New more eco friendly cars.
Holidays for all!!
Might change how I work.

xogossipgirlxo · 02/02/2023 14:19

54 millions? Wow.

-Give some to parents, sister, BIL, my grandma and husband's grandpa. Some into savings account for husband's niece so she can use it when she's 18
-Hand in notice to work (but reasonable time so they can train someone new)
-Buy few properties
-Go on nice holidays before my baby is born
-Call financial advisor 😂and have a serious talk with husband what's next?!

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/02/2023 14:22

Buy us a house, finally, not a crazy mansion but big enough for what we need. With a bloody driveway and some internal doors! (Having neither with little children is doing me in)
Quit my job, but give a big cheque to the charity I work for and continue to support them long term.
Buy houses for my mum and a few other family members.
Get my sister all the psychological help she needs.
Maintain my mum so she doesn’t need to work.
Invest some money into SIL and BILs business, and develop FILs land as an income for them.
Have 2 more children.
Travel!

VictoriaBun · 02/02/2023 14:23

@Iwantabloodypizza

No need to pack a bag with £54 ,000000
just leave 😂

Cosycover · 02/02/2023 14:25

I'd share most of it with my family and my friends. It would give me such joy to able to change their lives like that.

I would give alot to charities. Starting with small charities in my area.

Everytime I see a sad story with a justgiving page etc, I'd give them what they need.

I would get a new house but nothing massive. No doubt my husband would want a ridiculous car. He can batter ahead with that.

I'd spend my days devoting time to things I love and people I love.

It would be amazing to think my children and future generations would want for nothing.

It would be brilliant. One can only dream.

Crispynoodle · 02/02/2023 14:29

Be anonymous and give most of it away

denpark · 02/02/2023 14:29

I wouldn't tell anyone.
At all.

I'd quit my job and say I was working from home

I'd buy a house outright and invest in order to secure my children a futures in a way that didn't enable them to have so much money that they had no work ethic.

I'd volunteer for local food banks and charities

I'd anonymously donate a lot to charities.

I'd anonymously help pay off friends/families mortgages by organising a fake inheritance thing.

I'd buy myself sons new clothes

Hoolihan · 02/02/2023 14:29

Buy a very nice house, stay in some fancy hotels, take all my friends to Ibiza and my kids to Tanzania, set up a charitable trust and make that the rest of my life's work.

Farmageddon · 02/02/2023 14:30

This thread inspired me to check my lotto ticket from last week and I won!

4 whole euro wohoo.... but I spent €7 on the ticket, so not sure that's really a win. Ah well...

WakeMeUpInspring · 02/02/2023 14:31

Resign
Buy a big house
Villa
New car
Pay off my family and best friends mortgages
Set up a charity foundation
Personal trainer and cleaner at least 3 times a week
Probably end up with a silly amount of dogs 🐶

IncessantNameChanger · 02/02/2023 14:34

Insane money? I would open a ASD spLD school for academic girls. There is nothing for clever girls with ASD in county. Run it very much like a normal private school where girls could live as close to a normal school life as possible. Buy a massive house onna massive plot for it. Why? Because my son goes to a boys school like this. Girls with send don't have an equivalent. Or I would make it mixed sex but I really think there's a need for a girls school.

Buy a jagmansion, holidays etc of course too,

Switchwitch · 02/02/2023 14:36

Recarpet my living room. Living the high life!

I might also get a new pillow.

But mostly id like to be a secret millionnaire waiting for people to do nice things and just go and give them £10k as a surprise. It would be very selfishly gratifying.

xogossipgirlxo · 02/02/2023 14:36

I forgot I would donate big amount to charity straightaway.
