Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

I've noticed the hike in cat food too. The bag of dry food that used to be £12 or £8 when it was on special offer is now £18. Thankfully it takes them about 8 weeks to get through it!

Mañanarama · 02/02/2023 00:19

A ready made macaroni cheese yellow stickered in Morrisons at a reduced price of £9.73. Can’t recall the brand name but I will never buy it.

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 02/02/2023 00:21

A 2 pack of kitchen roll. £5.30!

whatsinaname2 · 02/02/2023 00:22

I don't know about the situation at home in the UK, but here in Thailand it's terrible. A small bottle of beer is £5. A night in a fairly basic hotel is £150 and a crap meal of one course for a family of 5 is routinely £100. Cheap days have long gone, wherever you are.

huntersmum · 02/02/2023 00:27

Heinz tomato and vegetable soup currently on offer at £1 in Sainsbury’s.

cariaaad · 02/02/2023 00:29

I was scrolling the internet for a new waste paper bin the other day and this came up.

It's nice and all but more than £2500 for something to throw your rubbish inConfusedConfusedConfused. I know there's people with more money than sense but honestly?

I'll be off to Wilko to get one for 4 quid.

I always think kitchen roll is a waste of money. Why not just buy a pack of dish cloths and stick them in with the daily wash? Much better for the environment too

Iris1976 · 02/02/2023 00:31

I was charged £6.85 at post office last week to send letter special delivery

I don’t buy it either. It was on the Asda site when I was doing my shop at the weekend.

@NoMoreVisits

  • I'm not lining the Tupperware box with dishcloths before putting left over sausages in it!
  • I'm not cleaning up my friend's cat's vomit with dishcloths.

there are many things I use paper towels for that I'm not using dishcloths or other cloths for.

and I'd never wash dishcloths with clothes, nor do a 'daily wash'. Maybe you should consider the necessity of running the washing machine daily, before you start preaching about things that are better for the environment.

Local cafe on Tuesday, 2 peanut butter cookies, a tea and a hot chocolate with cream £14.80, we won't be going back any time soon!

mantlepiece · 02/02/2023 01:09

I went to lidl today to get a haul of their Greek week offerings.
Thought to get some of my usual weekly shop there to save time. My good grief the prices! Dearer by far than Tesco. I thought it’s USP was they had keen prices. Not now.
The only extra things I bought on top of the Greek stuff was 3 bananas and one of their lush Portuguese tarts.

Thefizzthatmakesyouwhizz · 02/02/2023 01:14

Pukka teas £4.25

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 02/02/2023 01:21

Tesco value cat litter is now over £2 a bag.

Went for lunch for my birthday this week and it cost nearly £50 for two, just a chain, nowhere fancy.

Chicken thighs used to be cheap meat, now sometimes more expensive per Kg than breast fillets.

MrsAvocet · 02/02/2023 01:23

My DS has multiple food allergies including dairy and eggs and a lot of the things I'd normally get him for a treat have shot up in price, like fairly small chocolate bars now £1 each and for packed lunches I buy packs of mini Soreen banana loaves that were £1 until recently but are now £1.65. Ok, still not a lot of money in absolute terms but a 65% increase in a few months is way above even the current rate of inflation!

Champagneforeveryone · 02/02/2023 01:24

I'm thrilled I've found this thread as I can use it as an outlet for my outrage that I cannot voice in RL.

In the real world I am known for my enthusiasm for home cooked food, good quality produce, ethical food production etc. However I secretly love that Bisto gravy mix, and was recently speechless to find it was £4 a jar ☹️

Because it's my guilty secret I've not been able to voice this in public so, I've stewed on it privately since I last bought a jar 😆

Saschka · 02/02/2023 01:26

I bought a Kind bar in Costa today. £2.65!

I thought they’d charged me for a coffee as well, but no, £2.65 just for a very small cereal bar.

wohmum · 02/02/2023 01:27

Herecomesthesun1976 · 01/02/2023 22:08

Small jar (230g) of Bisto Best. £4 in Tesco yesterday! Unbelievable!

Yes! I saw these the other day - and the large jar(twice the size) is £5. Very odd pricing

I'm very grateful to my dad - when there was a marmite shortage over covid he made it a mission to get some (he likes a job to do!)
He turned up with 12 jars of the marmite XO so I think I'm ok for life now Grin

Can I ask what the difference is between the standard marmite and the XO? I've seen it whilst shopping online, but not tasted it, and can't really afford to pay for an expensive mistake!

I loved the one they brought out for Valentine's day a few years back with champagne, it was fantastic, wish they'd bring it back. 😋

Agapornis · 02/02/2023 01:49

MyProtein vegan protein powder.
£53.99 for 2.5kg. It was £22.26 in Feb 2021 - a 142.543% increase!!

(I appreciate this isn't exactly a staple food for everyone)

Christmascracker0 · 02/02/2023 00:17

I came to say this too 😅 I actually thought it was only (!) £5,000 but either way it’s the price of a small car. Plus it’s see through.

I think what annoyed me more was it's huge, because it's see through seems very uncosy, and poor tot seemed to be abandoned in the middle of it without even a blanket! Plus what really pissed me off, is at the top of the cot they've put 2 full sized cushions. I don't care how tiny and immobile baby is, that's such a huge bloody no no. You only need them to fall over, and baby can't escape. 😢

Stonecod · 02/02/2023 02:04

£25 deposit on a script for a bloody play my DS is in. I wouldn't mind paying for it if he lost it or something, but this is ridiculous.

BouleBaker · 02/02/2023 02:23

Picked up a teeny tiny jar of chipotle paste in Tesco, it's usually about £1.50 in Waitrose. It was £4.80!!!!! That went back!

Crystaltears · 02/02/2023 02:27

£1.99 for a loaf of bread in the local shop 🤔
