Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

I'm very grateful to my dad - when there was a marmite shortage over covid he made it a mission to get some (he likes a job to do!)
He turned up with 12 jars of the marmite XO so I think I'm ok for life now Grin

Lovely Dad!

Had a bit of a chuckle about Paperchase earlier in the week - few years ago they allowed themselves to be bullied by left wing fascists like Owen Jones into withdrawing advertising from the DM (and I have no real regard for that particular rag)

As the saying goes "go woke, go broke"

😁😁😁

A pretty but small birthday card in WHSmith not hand decorated with sparkles etc, just a printed piece of thin card, £3.75.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 01/02/2023 23:46

The cot that Tommy Fury and Mollie Mae bought their baby £8000+

NC0223 · 01/02/2023 23:48

@Tothepoint99 he's fairly recently retired and adores a task!

When I got covid he went food shopping and brought me the entire pharmacy shelf, immune support yoghurt drinks Confused, random stuff "because it looked nice" and wafer thin chicken "for the cat because he can't eat the proper stuff with no teeth"
Cat was delighted Grin

A pair of toddler trainers I donated to a charity shop for £10!
I paid £1.50 for them brand new with tags from the same charity shop last year!

Ineedwinenow · 01/02/2023 23:51

Oh and Royal Mail have put their online prices up today without informing anyone!

They used to charge 60p per package for collecting them up from your home or business but took that charge off during the strikes, now they state they will still collect for free and no longer charging for that service but added 50p to the postage cost instead! It was reduced for about 6 weeks and now everyone has got over and forgotten the strikes they put the price back up without informing anyone!

What I’m not sure about is if it’s gone up 50p in post offices as you have always been able to drop off for free there, if so they have put postage up across the board and not just tried to hide the collection fee for online purchases

converseandjeans · 01/02/2023 23:51

Heinz soup £1.60 a can
Baking spread/stork £2.75
Cheese slices £3.20

It used to be a cheap meal to have cheese toastie and tin of soup. I think with the price of bread it would be £1.60 + £0.70 so around £2.30 🤷🏻‍♀️

Made me smile^^
I am in shock about most food prices. Especially Heinz ketchup.

Asdas. Pack of 4 chicken thighs. Organic and skinless for £17!!!!

In fairness, that's £17 per kg, not for four thighs, so likely to be around £9/10. Still mad though, especially for somewhere as down-market as Asda.

Sainsbury's profiteroles, which are shit anyway, have jumped from £2.50 to £3.10 to £3.50 in recent weeks, which surprised me a bit to see.

Cherryade, orangeade and so on are almost £1 a bottle which is crazy to me.

Also, Sainsbury's again, selling a 6 pack of French Fries for £1.95.

People on local Facebook groups have clearly lost the plot with prices too. Some woman near me was trying to sell a battered old MDF sideboard for the oddly specific amount of £145...

Sickandtiredofbeingsick · 01/02/2023 23:58

A block of ‘Seriously Strong’ cheese for £8.50! 🤯😧

I used to buy everything on ebay second hand I cant afford the prices now - I'm finding charity shops even vinted quite expensive too.

What I was shocked at when trying to find a cheaper alternative to next was a 5 pack of boys joggers from asda are £24...I'm sure you could pick them up for around £15 from asda a few years ago. 😪

to be fair £3 for a pair of joggers is ridiculous, how much do you think the garment makers were getting paid for that?

In a local independent restaurant/bistro type place, it’s now £12.75 for a plain jacket spud! No fillings ( they were an extra £1.50 upwards depending) I was shocked! I understand business have been totally screwed over regarding utilities and cost of living for everyone is going up but nearly 13.00 for the boring version of a jacket is pushing it a bit! I didn’t study it so I hope for that price you get Lurpack butter 😆

I've always taken it on the chin when food in restaurants gets dearer but this... this would drive me over the edge.

A PLAIN BAKED POTATO FOR £12.75!!????

Cat food. 12 tins is nearly a tenner for Asda branded wet food now. WTAF.

It's mad. Cat food has doubled in price in the last 6m

I can't think why

A hotel room in Liverpool during Eurovision weekend. Over £22k!!!!!!!

You beat me to it! Also the most expensive one I saw was “only” £13,000 for a week.

Rosalindisafuckingnightmare · 02/02/2023 00:09

Someone is trying to sell a 4 bedroom house near me for £595,000 and the 4th bedroom
is 6 foot by 6 foot.

Someone else is trying to sell a house for £535,000 on a “quiet cul-de-sac”. I’ll grant you the house is on a cul-de-sac but it backs directly onto a hospital with a helipad.

May have slightly missed the point here…

It's insane. The same stuff used to cost us under £5.

AtomicRitual · 02/02/2023 00:12

Glade (as in brand of air freshener) candle.

Smelled nice but in a "someone's sprayed a bit too much air freshener" kind of way.

Was tempted still as it was fresh then I saw it was £9.45!

It stayed on the shelf!

Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

Yep tell me about it, I’m trying to upload the menu to show you but it has their logo throughout the online menu so it’s a big outing but yeah you get that’s it’s a mental price too 😱 A pub down the road has steak and sauce for that price 😆 it’s a bit more of a shit hole but I don’t want to pay extra for fancy carpet!

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask….

I came to say this too 😅 I actually thought it was only (!) £5,000 but either way it’s the price of a small car. Plus it’s see through.

Genius gluten free bread. £4.50 and its not even half the size of a normal loaf.

Yay for coeliacs 🙄

and a standard genius loaf is something like 535g where is the normal loaf is 800 g. So not just small slices, small loaves too!
