Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

@pam290358 thank you!

@stayathomer thank you! Yes DH uses the 00 flour and the Jamie recipe. I’m now craving pizza!

we are growing so much in the garden this year. Already have a greenhouse but have also invested in a polytunnel. DH’s hobby but it does save on the shopping (well, it will in a few years after we’ve erased polytunnel costs!)

Looking for bouncy castle hire for ds's birthday. Bouncy castles around here are usually £90-130 for a 2 hour hire with set up. There was a package (it did have some soft play stuff and some didi cars and maybe a small toddler ball pit along with the bouncy castle) that was £450 for 2 hours! It was called something like 'house of laughs' and all I could think of was that certainly is a big fucking house of laughs!! Who is hiring out a shitty bouncy castle for nearly £500?!?

I Made the mistake of buying generic 'Brown fruity Sauce'

Word of advice, don't

You’ve just reminded me of a point I wanted to make. Has anyone got a local supermarket that stocks Polish products ? We have a Tesco that has a large Polish food section and some of the prices are very much cheaper. They do a fab tomato ketchup called Pudlisting. 99p for a 500g bottle and it’s much nicer than the other brands in my opinion. They have a good selection of basic storecupboard stuff and staples which are very reasonably priced. Worth a look if you can find it locally.

Rosscameasdoody · 02/02/2023 11:06

Sorry - bloody auto correct, that tomato sauce is actually called Pudliski !!

Wobblytrees · 02/02/2023 11:08

@lalaloopyhead yes Pom bear are extortionate! 2.45 for a pack of 6 here! They were on offer at 1.45 the other week so I bought a few but gone through them now

Aldi version of pom bears are far cheaper and I can’t tell the difference. And they are gluten free.

Omg same!! My girl will only eat Heinz Macaroni cheese. It’s gone from 5 tins for £5 to THREE tins for £5 now!!!

Have a look in Iceland. They had an offer on Heinz this week - not sure if it might just be online or high street too. Any ten large tins for £7. If it’s still on, might be worth stocking up.

tiger2691 · 02/02/2023 11:17

Anything Heinz, plus Bisto gravy granules, £5.49 for 550g in Morrisons yesterday, on 25th January they were £3.99.

I have found one from Lidi that's ok but ketchup and salad cream are also two products that have gone up and like you I've tried others. No just no...

I was sad to see our local pound-a-bowl places reduce their quantities to what you would get if you purchased from a supermarket. It was only three years ago that you could get a dozen avocadoes or half an dozen mangoes. I wish I had bothered more. I don't think it will come back.

Two apples.

Two.

Thats what’s in the pound a bowl on our local market. Or the tiniest amount of grapes you’ve ever seen, or two bananas.

It’s not even some posh farmer’s market, it’s a big standard one in a very deprived town.

I asked him if he was having a laugh. People were still flocking there though and buying them, despite asda and tesco a two and five min walk away and an aldi ten min walk from the market where you can get 6 for a pound.

The cost of swimwear. Barely any options my size, all ugly as hell and cost around £50

Agreed. I'm sticking to the one I bought in Boots nearly 15 years ago.

Update - just tried their mayonnaise while making a lunchtime sandwich, and it’s really good.

Panapan · 02/02/2023 11:27

@stayathomer quite! Although until they invent a mattress that makes my children sleep through, I’m not sure how it could really improve my sleep.

A 2 pack of kitchen roll. £5.30!

This item, heavy quality, large rolls, €2.45 in Mercadona. Unfortunately in Alicante.

However, with a Ryanair flight (every two weeks or so) you still might be quids in for your regular shopping...

Uninterestedfamily · 02/02/2023 11:28

Red meat from supermarkets.

I've just bought a box of mixed beef cuts, high quality rare breed moorland-raised, direct from the farm for £9 a kilo. Be looking at nearly twice that from a butcher/supermarket.

ItsCalledAConversation · 02/02/2023 11:29

A Gisela Graham stacking jewellery roll, about £8.99 worth, label was £20.

No sodding way Shock

Yet another example of rip off prices for products aimed at those with health conditions and disabilities. Disgusting. Bet you could source gluten-free flour cheaper and make your own.

Luckymum20 · 02/02/2023 11:32

@Reebokclassics have a look on Amazon. Heinz tomato soup is £5.49 for 6 tins. There are other Heinz products on there way cheaper than in the supermarkets.

It’s still grim with GF flour though, sadly! I’ve on tried it alllllll. Nothing beats wheat 😭

Redkettle · 02/02/2023 11:37

Anything in tesco if you haven't got a club card. Robbing bastards

blacktreacles · 02/02/2023 11:38

Clothes for newborns at £50 a pop. Granted shops that are on the higher end of the market but still.

Tlolljs · 02/02/2023 11:39

I used to buy a big pot of Tesco’s own honey yoghurt. £1. Went up to £1.25. Now £1.60

How on earth does a swimming costume last 15 years? Mine always go completely see-through on the bum in about 6 months.

Granted a treat, but Dominos pizza. Always been expensive but now extortionate.
And yes there are offers but both my husband and I have maths degrees but convinced we never select the best deal😆

Ha ha yes i can never work this out either and the end total still takes your breath away!
