Ive got a 3 year old who’s absolutely petrified by dogs after being jumped on and knocked over by a “just friendly!” dog

Its not parents instilling fear into their kids, it’s dog owners that can’t comprehend anyone feeling anything but happiness and adoration by their dog jumping up on them. If owners respected peoples space more instead of insisting that their dog “won’t hurt a fly” and allowing them to jump and paw all over people maybe they wouldn’t be so wary of them.

Ok now you’re being daft. I do sympathise with responsible owners like you, but there should be some acceptance that the onus is on you to ensure people are safe, and also feel safe.

It’s so annoying. I would never allow my dog to scare a child, even unintentionally. I don’t know what previous experiences a child has with dogs.

To think that I would walk past convinced that it’s the child who should stay at home 🤦🏻‍♀️

If my dog walks past a kid who happens to be scared.. who is at fault?

Having thought more about this, and reading more about this case which was in a private property, there needs to be far more than just leash laws. IMO there needs to be:

• Leash laws
• Dog licensing
• Fines and criminal charges for owners of dogs who bite
• Banning and euthanasia of certain breeds. ( Yes it's sad but the shelters here are full of pit bull mixes, few people want to take them on.)
• No more than three dogs per household/dog walker in urban areas.

There will still be these sad cases but it will help move things towards a safer environment for everyone.

Pet ownership isn't an aspect of nature. It's an aspect of human behaviour and it should be regulated same as other risky aspects of human behaviour that have societal and environmental impacts.

9 million dogs shitting, barking and biting the length and breadth of the country isn't some elysian natural paradise. It's a situation that people have created and that people should take steps to control.

I'll be amazed if this is not a breed known to be dangerous and should never have been with a child .
