I am not claustrophobic in any normal circumstances .but don't try to put me in an MRI scanner ,they have offered to sedate me but I have politely refused because that would mean I would be going into an MRI scanner. So also phobic about the sedation .And I am supposed to be scanned fairly regularly.
I can't stand tics or fleas ,tics freak me out because if their horrible little legs .and fleas because they are almost indestructible.they make me sick little black flecks of nastiness.

I'm terrified of being in water with a fish. I couldn't go scuba diving even for £1million. I'm okay seeing fish in tanks and dead ones but being in water with a fish freaks me out. I had a panic attack at Discovery cove swimming in the pool as I thought there might be fish in it

Wolves 🤷🏼‍♀️

Toilet water spilling over the top of the loo has always freaked me out. I like to be well away from the loo when I flush.

Following the tragic death of the workman in London, being crushed by one of those telescopic rising toilets is a completely irrational but terrifying thought. I’m not ever likely to use a urinal, telescopic or not so definitely irrational.

notbloodylikely · 30/01/2023 17:44

I don’t like seeing planes in the air, especially as they take off, I worry that they might fall from the sky and I won’t know what to do - would I run, call the police, shout to everyone around me?

NotAnotherBathBomb · 30/01/2023 20:10

Those old-fashioned scuba suits. Give me the shudders. Maybe it’s linked to my whole submechanophobia but the thought of seeing one of those underwater…omg I can’t even imagine it.

There’s on out on display in a museum and I shake walking past it, I don’t know what it is.

So I've never told a single person this - I can't sign my name or write in front of people.
If someone catches me off guard I can, but if I know I have to do it, I freeze and tremble and my hand physically can't make the right movements to write. Completely irrational. If I'm stressed or uptight, I can't even write in front of friends sometimes. I really want hypnotherapy but I don't want to tell DH what it's for.

I have to ask, how did you manage exams?

NotAnotherBathBomb · 30/01/2023 22:30

Horrifying. And yet I can’t really look away. In fact I just googled a photo of it empty and jumped out if my skin. Whyyyyyyyyyy

NotAnotherBathBomb · 30/01/2023 22:32

I will however refrain from googling photos of the mechanisms that lay under the surface 😱 I won’t be able to sleep otherwise. Send me to a haunted house any day!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/01/2023 22:43

Not really a Phobia as such but paper straws turn my stomach.

May be hard to believe from my user name but dead spiders terrify me.

lurchermummy · 29/01/2023 20:31

Not really a phobia but I really get the shivers thinking about big underwater machinery like pumps in reservoirs, turbines, or shipwrecks

I completely understand this! I have this aversion/phobia to old crumbling factories with giant disused machinery parts.

I would happily drive miles out of my way to avoid a building like this.

Woahtherehoney · 30/01/2023 22:51

Not a phobia as such but I HATE clothes labels - the ones with like washing instructions etc on. Apparently it’s been since I was really little. They make me heave just looking at them/feeling them. New Look, Primark, Zara, Vans and Calvin Klein are the worst (just to name a few!)

sanityisamyth · 31/01/2023 06:48

Ohhhh I don't like that 🙈🙈🙈

WestBridgewater · 31/01/2023 06:53

Butterflies but I’m ok with moths.

Isheabastard · 31/01/2023 07:01

Mine is maggots.

It started years ago. We had just moved in to a house one summer.

We had to put our freezer in the cellar. It was also where all the empty boxes and junk went.

Everytime I went to the cellar, I kept getting a whiff of something, quick look, can’t see anything.

Went down to cellar for tidy up, just removed a box off another box, and found a pile of writhing, pulsating maggots.

I think that’s one of the few times I have really screamed. I’m fine with spiders and other creepy crawlies, live and dead mice.

It turned out a small nearly empty bag of frozen mince had accidentally been left out of the freezer. Eggs had been laid and maggots had been dining on 5* inclusive.

I later found out that maggots will crawl out of your dustbin, but the birds absolutely love them.

Kiwi fruit

Like eating a malevolent hairy eyeball.

wheeltrims · 31/01/2023 09:28

Propellers on really big ships make me feel sick

wheeltrims · 31/01/2023 09:29

Oh and also Irish dancing! The feet moving so fast makes me sweat just thinking about it

@NotAnotherBathBomb You've just given a name to my lifelong phobia of cooling towers. I can't bear them as they're so big but also connected with machinery, water and steam. I never knew the fear had a name.

Platinumpennies · 01/02/2023 23:06

Yes to high level toilet cisterns. I’m so fearful of these!
And to empty swimming pools. Just weird and scary.
