Oil rigs & wind turbines for me 😬 what's yours?

heidbuttsupper · 29/01/2023 20:25

@gkkp only about 5 minutes. I just had to apply pressure then a plaster went on it. Was a cracker of a bruise though!

salcombebabe · 29/01/2023 20:26

I have a phobia of things with holes in it 🤢 it’s called Trypophobia and I can be physically sick or virtually faint at the sight!

Tamarindtree · 29/01/2023 20:26

Taxidermy.

Mushroo · 29/01/2023 20:27

Not really a phobia but I have an irrational fear of opening the front door and someone throwing acid in my face.

No idea where it’s come from but I have opening the door when I’m not expecting anyone!

So irrational dislikes, not phobias (which are a debilitating mental health condition) 🙄

It depends. You can have a phobia of something that is not going to affect your day to day life... but something like a phobia of dogs or vomit etc.. will affect your life a lot more than someone who has a phobia of flying.
I have needle phobia. It does not affect me day to day, but it affects me a lot when it is something I have to deal with (or not, as I just avoid).

gkkp · 29/01/2023 20:28

@Mushroo That's scary to think about actually and I never thought about it before Sad

OP posts:
IronCandle · 29/01/2023 20:29

Some of these aren’t irrational though.

evilharpy · 29/01/2023 20:30

Vomit. Can't cope with it at all.

lurchermummy · 29/01/2023 20:31

Not really a phobia but I really get the shivers thinking about big underwater machinery like pumps in reservoirs, turbines, or shipwrecks

LulusMiniEgg · 29/01/2023 20:32

Waxworks, absolutely terrifying. Especially if they are historical. Got an irrational fear that they might come alive and take me back to their time!

TheProblemIsMe · 29/01/2023 20:32

Another one for shipwrecks and high level toilet cisterns, more specifically pull chain flusher toilets ugh sends shivers down me. Also anchors.

gkkp · 29/01/2023 20:32

@lurchermummy Yes! Same

gkkp · 29/01/2023 20:33

@TheProblemIsMe What is it about the toilet cisterns you don't like?

Being stuck in a portaloo and it falls over door down.

I'm so sorry for laughing but the mental imagery of said disaster had me crying.
If that was to happen, it would be to me, it just would.
I have a leaving handbrake loose phobia especially if DCs in car.
Dog poo is another one, stepping in it.
Getting bitten by a tic (I won't walk through long ferns in June/July or long grasses).
I'm scared of swimming in water that's not clear, the murkiness.
I'm working on the spider phobia.

I don’t want to spread my irrational fear! I know logically the risk is minuscule, but it is something that enters my head whenever I open the door.

Thepossibility · 29/01/2023 20:36

Kids fiddling with a wobbly tooth.

Don't like them either, an irrational fear that they will become detached from the wall when I pull the chain and water will keep pouring out without stopping. No similar fear of low level cisterns

sparklecrazy · 29/01/2023 20:39

Another emetophobe here. However, I've recently had hypnotherapy (I've been like this for 25+ years) and this weekend I've had to deal with my 6yr old twins both having a sickness bug. And I feel such relief, it was the first time I have coped without having panic attacks!

Meem321 · 29/01/2023 20:39

Tamarindtree · 29/01/2023 20:26

Taxidermy.

Me too. Actual full blown phobia.
Glad I'm not alone.
I can't go to museums or art galleries without checking, and even if they tell me it's clear,I still have a racing heart each time I turn a corner. Antique shops are also very stressful.

And the film Paddington, they're in there! Taxidermy even has the same effect on me if it's ok the telly or just a photo of taxidermy. Fucking hideous stuff.

SerafinasGoose · 29/01/2023 20:39

Wasps. The mere sound they make has me sweating and breaking out in goose flesh.

The worst they can do is sting you. My fear of them is disproportionate to that. And it isn't the fact they sting that bothers me; I don't mind bees in the least as long as they're out of doors. It's the way they perpetually hassle you, fly at you and chase you I can't bear.

Evil stripey little thugs 🐝

torthecatlady · 29/01/2023 20:39

Anything tooth related.. like walking anywhere I have an irrational fear that I will fall and break my teeth or knock them out. A check up at the dentist is fine, but any dental work such as a filling terrifies me (hyperventilating, racing heart, sweaty palms, tears).

And a pretty common one, arachnophobia. Very debilitating for me unfortunately Sad

naturalchiller · 29/01/2023 20:40

Drinking coffee out of a glass mug/latte thingy. Makes me want to vomit.

gkkp · 29/01/2023 20:42

@SerafinasGoose I hate the noise of buzzing too. I watched a horror film once where a lady was in a room that ended up completely full of them and the noise was horrendous

OP posts:
gkkp · 29/01/2023 20:43

@naturalchiller oooh I've never heard that one before. Why don't you like it?

MalbecMakesMeHappy · 29/01/2023 20:43

Shortcrust pastry. The thought of it puts me on edge.
