Another celeb surrogacy I'm presuming !

But the pregnant woman herself is also prepared to put herself at the same risk.

For her own benefit. Not someone else's.

What a vile post. Judging other peoples fertility...

Get a life!

No, judging other people’s actions

Spectre8 · 25/01/2023 19:26

If a woman is of sound mind and not in a situation where she is being forced, she has the right to decide what she does with her body. Thats it. No ifs or buts and noone, absolutely noone has the right to tell her otherwise or decide they know better than her.

It doesn't matter the reason why they want to be surrogates, money etc. Its their choice so long as noone is forcing them.

GoAGoGo · 25/01/2023 19:27

I don't care one way or the other.
Just the same as a woman having a baby via egg or sperm donation, it's up to them.
It has zero impact on my life.

TheKeatingFive · 25/01/2023 19:29

So why can't she sell a kidney?

all very handmaids tale. Where are the birth mothers?

This. So rich you hire a woman's body. Vile

No not judging other people’s fertility that would be asinine
now judging other people’s attitude and sense of entitled actions well that’s something else

Does that stance extend to every issue worthy of debate or concern around you?

or just these babies literally being bought and torn from their birth mothers within hours of the event sometimes?

Because its her choice!! Thats the whole point a person has every right to decide what to do with their body. If someone wants to 'rent their womb' they should have the right to, if they want to sell a kidney they should have the right too.

If someone doesn't want to live anymore they should have the right to decide and be helped to let go peacefully.

Unfortunately society and governments have made it so you don't have total rights over your body.

There is already a black market in selling oegans.

None of these laws has prevented any of it.

It concerns everything that has no direct impact on my life.
Babies aren't ' torn from mother's ' as you so dramatically term it.
Mother gives birth the same as any other woman, then willingly hands baby over.
She's not held down while some manic doctor drags the baby out with forceps.

I’m thinking about how the baby might be impacted in that scenario as well as the mother who might be in any frame of mind after labour. You are both glib and cynical.

Sure. But the pregnant woman herself is also prepared to put herself at the same risk.

Should we be allowed to sell our organs then? Provided we're prepared to 'take the risk'?

Once again, it has no impact on my life whatsoever, so therefore I don't care.
It's entirely up to the parties involved.

PuttingDownRoots · 25/01/2023 19:58

Have you ever read what happened to surrogate babies both in Covid lockdowns and in Ukraine when the war broke out? Did the women (and babies) consent to that too?

Clymene · 25/01/2023 19:59

So you think it's okay for people to sell children to anyone who wants to pay for them @GoAGoGo?

Yes we should, so long as your not being forced and your of sound mind and are fully aware of the risks then yes.

I find that really curious
Does that make all babies therefore merely a commodity? After all almost every one of them will have fuck all impact on your life

What do you count as force? If someone is in extremely poverty and thinks selling a kidney is their only option, is that OK?

Clymene · 25/01/2023 19:59

If the birth mother has agreed to surrogacy, then it's up to her.

Spectre8 · 25/01/2023 20:01

Yes we should, so long as your not being forced and your of sound mind and are fully aware of the risks then yes.

But how can you be sure?

There could be a lot of subtle but still very powerful emotional pressure being put on someone, either to sell an organ or become a surrogate. It might not be obvious but could still very much be a factor. How do you legislate for that?

GoAGoGo · 25/01/2023 20:07

So we've no duty of care to investigate the impact on the child?

Clymene · 25/01/2023 20:16

What about my 3 year old and 6 year old @GoAGoGo? Can I sell them?
