There is never a medical need for surrogacy.

Nobody has a right to a child.

Agreed.

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 25/01/2023 09:20

I hate these threads. Regardless of your opinion on surrogacy you have no right to anyone else's medical information. Also I do feel there's a uncomfortable moral viewpoint that surrogacy is ok as long as the moral standards I apply are present. And finally for all these celebs who "suddenly" have fertility issues, how the fuck would you know. How do you know how many childless celebs are childless by choice or not.

thestealthwee · 25/01/2023 09:24

I don't get the outrage over surrogacy presumably using her own eggs but there isn't the same outrage over the huge increase in use of donor eggs. At least she is biologically and genetically related to her child

gogohmm · 25/01/2023 09:24

The issue of exploitation of poor women is why it is other people's business when the rich outsource pregnancy. The reason behind it is irrelevant. Very few countries allow commercial surrogacy for good reason.

Twizbe · 25/01/2023 09:29

There's never a medical reason for surrogacy.

I've great sympathy for women going through infertility, I've been through it myself. It does t entitle you to a baby or to use another woman's body though.

Peverellshire · 25/01/2023 09:29

IME its becoming much more common, esp in USA where a significant minority, e.g amongst the very rich, actresses in long running shows, etc.

Twas ever, fairly recently, thus, but what’s changed is fact many are now open about having no medical need & it’s becoming more normalised. Wanting to preserve body, ‘looks’, career, (think longevity as top influencer), socialites wanting to lead ‘best life’…

Akin to the ‘convenience’ of C section, increasing, amongst this demographic.

Where the USA leads, we tend to follow…

How do you know there wasn't a medical heed?

Why should an article about her becoming a mum need to mention the whys and how that came about?

It is literally nobody's business!!

Everything that's wrong with society - people thinking they have a right to know every detail about other peoples lives.

So if there’s a medical need for a kidney it’s ok to buy one from a poorer woman?
There is no “medical need” to have a baby

Regardless of your opinion on surrogacy? I abhor surrogacy for whatever reason someone chooses to do it. I don't care why.

BeachesDiary · 25/01/2023 09:36

I disagree. It is literally everybody's business when poor women are exploited and babies are turned into a commodity.

sevenbyseven · 25/01/2023 09:40

Her fertility problems are no one's business. Surrogacy as an issue is everyone's business.

Galadriel90 · 25/01/2023 09:40

Surrogacy is awful. Should be outlawed. Rich women (and men) using their cash to buy babies. A baby isn't a medical necessity.

LemonPeonies · 25/01/2023 09:42

@VaddaABeetch exactly. I don't agree with surrogacy at all.

LadyKenya · 25/01/2023 09:48

Ladyfird · 25/01/2023 08:37

It's sad that a woman who has been brave in speaking out about abuse has used a surrogate.

There is no reason to doubt that with all her money, she would have taken very good care of the woman carrying her child.

Tamarindtree · 25/01/2023 09:49

She’s an older woman who has struggles with fertility. The surrogate will have been richly rewarded and the child will grow up loved and cared for. I’ve met Kathy Hilton, Paris’s mother and they are a close knit loving family.

Paris has a public image that she plays up to but is actually level headed.

What exactly is the medical need which means you can pay someone else to carry a baby for you, and take on all the associated risks of pregnancy and childbirth?

I think you are confusing desire with medical need. Having a baby is not a medical need, nor a right, and I agree with many other posers that surrogacy is wrong.

Delphinium20 · 25/01/2023 09:51

I for one feel outrage over "donor" eggs as well as surrogacy. In the US, they advertise selling your eggs to you teen girls. Technically they can't donate until they're 18, but they start grooming them before that time.

Paris has so many things going for her in life that it's a shame she felt she needed to exploit a woman to give birth. Surrogacy is an ugly business, especially when wealthy couples use poor women. Obviously Paris's sister wouldn't be put through that!

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 25/01/2023 09:52

@Clymene presumably why you didn't start a thread on surrogacy before saying oh it's ok, she has fertility problems.

Hoppinggreen · 25/01/2023 09:52

LadyKenya · 25/01/2023 09:48

There is no reason to assume it either

Chimna · 25/01/2023 09:53

Rich women now think they can wait until their 40s or 50s then buy a child, that is the problem. Ofcourse in your late 30s, 40s and 50s you will be more likely to have fertility problems. But it doesn't matter to them as they can pay to rent a womb.

LadyKenya · 25/01/2023 09:56

Would it be ok then if she had just bought some woman's eggs?

WaddleAway · 25/01/2023 10:02

LadyKenya · 25/01/2023 09:56

No.

LadyKenya · 25/01/2023 10:06

I just think that there does not seem to be the same level of contention over donor eggs, as there is surrogacy on here.

PuttingDownRoots · 25/01/2023 10:09

At the extreme end, the consequences can include death, infertility for the surrogate mother and other life long medical conditions. I don't think there any money that compensate for that.

I find altruistic surrogacy more morally acceptable tbh.. a women helping a friend or relative.

Fancylike · 25/01/2023 10:10

Conveniently, her mother gives interviews saying how Paris has had fertility issues. Interviews done when the mum would have already been pregnant is an easy strategy to lay the infertility story down ahead of the birth. Like Priyanka Chopra is now retroactively trying to do.

They know surrogacy is ethically wrong, otherwise they wouldn’t be making an effort to create an excuse for why they did it. Didn’t want to get fat and ruin my body so I bough another woman’s womb has less of a nurturing ring to it.

newbeggins · 25/01/2023 10:17

When are the affluent women going to start being surrogates for poor women with fertility issues?
