What do you do with Gu ramekins?

We've recently had 6 Gu puddings (what luxury 😁) and I've diligently washed the ramekins but I don't know what to do with them now.

Seems a waste just to recycle them but not sure what we could use them for...

Inspired by this post to look up the Pots & Co desserts and as I suspected they are no longer selling them in the beautiful ceramic ramekins but using glass ones now.

They are claiming it's due to customer demand for more recyclable packaging.
If there was ever a single person who threw one of these away I'd like you to put your hand up now! Because I think this is just an excuse and down to money saving.

Their desserts are gorgeous, way better than Gu, but I feel like I'm going to deprive myself on principle now. I was saving them for a set in certain colours too...

I keep them in the greenhouse and use them for plant saucers

PurpleEmpress · 22/01/2023 10:32

Both Gu ramekins and the terracotta cheese bake dishes are good as drip trays under smaller plants and look better than the plastic versions.

cheesymashfortea · 22/01/2023 10:33

put one by the kettle for your used tea bags and stirring spoon!

wouldnt charity shops take them?

Who would buy them?

That's like giving the charity shop old jam jars. They are packaging bin them.

antisocialextrovert · 22/01/2023 10:38

I waited till I had a class size amount and took them into school where they are used in Art lessons

nuttymut · 22/01/2023 10:44

My friends daughter uses them to make candles in.
as for the comments about charity shops taking them . I volunteer in a charity shop and no , they don’t sell and get chucked in the recycling which they have to pay for .
Ive been astounded at the stuff people drop off . Dirty, bobbly, scruffy. Poor condition.

CeriB82 · 22/01/2023 10:46

i take them to work and they are on my desk containing pubs and paperclips

catandcoffee · 22/01/2023 10:46

CeriB82 · 22/01/2023 10:46

coffee I manage a charity shop and we get inundated with them .. I've never known anyone actually want to buy them Grin.

Charity shops round here over price them £3.00 a pot is the current charge!

Wildseawatcher · 22/01/2023 10:47

We use them for snack portions or for portions of baked beans or little side salads for the kids ..

ladymacbeth · 22/01/2023 10:47

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2023 10:49

Who is donating them to charity shops 😂😂😂

Lots of people!! Half of MN for a start, judging by this thread. The little ceramic ones yes. The glass ones are really just only fit for recycling.

Please just put them in your OWN recycling. Or if you feel guilty about the waste, don't buy them in the first place.

TerrysNeapolitan · 22/01/2023 11:03

I use them as tealight holders, as mentioned in an earlier post the bottom isn't flat so the tealight often glides to the side, I use a craft glue dot to keep it in place.

ladymacbeth · 22/01/2023 11:14

Of course they don't want them! They're good packaging. Or are people also donating milk bottles?!

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2023 11:18

You could say If they’re such good packaging why don’t they want them? 😂
Milk bottles? Not seen one of those for years.

theycallmejane · 22/01/2023 11:19

I used to bake eggs in them until one shattered. TBF, they were housed cold desserts when I bought them - there was nothing to suggest they were definitely OK with the other extreme of temperature

Pringle lids loosely fit. Doesn't make them airtight, but does make them stackable.

I use mine for home made pate.

CatOnTheChair · 22/01/2023 11:29

chocolate mouse containers

Or, when we moved and discovered rather a lot, the food tech at school was delighted to take them off me (I said she could have them or I would recycle - she also took all the takeaway containers).

ladymacbeth · 22/01/2023 11:46

@Sparklingbrook autocorrect, meant food packaging!

Sprogonthetyne · 22/01/2023 11:50

I eat the actual Gu, then fill the pot with chocolate angle delight. My DC are still young enough to spot this blatant fake.

cantba · 22/01/2023 11:54

I use them for the kids icecream.

AdaColeman · 22/01/2023 12:00

I use them for
Dipping sauces
Spiced salt dish
Water jar when I'm painting
Olives, nuts, nibbles
Paper clips, treasury tags
Growing carrot tops

I do try to be strict with myself and throw them out...but as with Nutella jars or interestingly shaped pickle jars, it's not easy! Wink
