What do you do with Gu ramekins?

We've recently had 6 Gu puddings (what luxury 😁) and I've diligently washed the ramekins but I don't know what to do with them now.

Seems a waste just to recycle them but not sure what we could use them for...

Grated cheese holders for the kids to have pre portioned cheese on their pasta.
Cucumber stick holders
Ditto peppers
Portion cups for freezing humous for my lunch.

Ha great minds @chimichangaz

I use them to freeze portions of apple sauce and cranberry sauce.
Chocolate mousse is really easy to make & serve in ramekins or use for a scoop of ice cream .
Have used for salmon mousse starters.
Also use to decant PVA glue for crafting

Used every day in our house for snack pots or pudding pots (jelly/rice pudding/tinned fruit)

AmazingBouncingFerret · 22/01/2023 08:21

My daughter doesn’t like sauce squeezed directly onto her plate and risk it touching food she doesn’t want to touch so they come in handy for her.
They came into their own when I threw an ice cream and Prosecco party for my friends. Used them to put things like 100’s and 1000’s and chopped nuts and other toppings.

Pringles lids fit them perfectly. I use mine as snack pots, sauce holders, and for holding small plastic food bags open to dry after I've washed them. Also sometimes put small amounts of grated cheese in or use to zest lemons or limes. Or olives for snacking.

Oh that's a good idea. I just use them as tealight holders but then have a clear out every 6 months or so as they annoy me.

SoupAndSodaBread · 22/01/2023 08:24

Do you have anything the same size? If yes, just recycle them. If not, I use some little pot things for storing small quantities of leftovers, I also crack eggs into them before I poach them. Sometimes I'll put things like grates cheese, cut up fruit etc for DCs in them. But if we ever buy Gu things (which we don't really) I think I'd just recycle.

They should have a scheme where you can send them back. It does seem wasteful somehow as they're so chunky and substantial

BethDuttonsTwin · 22/01/2023 08:24

I use them when I have sushi to mix my soy sauce and wasabi in. Also to put individual servings of butter/mayo/ketchup etc

elevenplusdilemma · 22/01/2023 08:26

The plastic lids from a Pringles can will fit them so they can be used to store food in fridge / freezer.

THANK YOU!

I really wish they would stack.
I use mine as a mini pot for beans / hummus / other dips

Ragwort · 22/01/2023 08:31

I think Gu have changed to a different sort of pot recently as I haven't seen many of the China ones where I shop?

notacooldad · 22/01/2023 08:31

Here's some ideas

coffee I manage a charity shop and we get inundated with them .. I've never known anyone actually want to buy them Grin.

That's like taking jam jars to a charity shop. Who does that?!

redbigbananafeet · 22/01/2023 08:32

Dip bowls for starters

subtoprem · 22/01/2023 08:32

Store them in a cupboard and knock them clattering every time I get something else out of said cupboard.

I think you've actually changed my life with this information!

Some more ideas . This time from pinterest.

Changingmynameyetagain · 22/01/2023 08:33

I use them at work to store paper clips and other little bits on my desk.
The kids use them as snack holders and we also use them for putting dips and sauces in when serving dinner so I don’t have to use the full jar on the table.
Dh paints miniature models and he uses them for water to clean his brushes.
They are really handy and get used every day in our house.

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 22/01/2023 08:33

Snack bowls for the kids- when they have chocolate or sweets from the big bags

LadyWithLapdog · 22/01/2023 08:35

The Pringles lid fits but not perfectly, you can’t turn it upside down etc.

Tealight holders - you need to place the tea light in the exact centre as the bottom is not perfectly flat, so the tea light easily glides off-centre and a bit downhill.

We keep one for spare batteries in the porch, in the hope we’ll remember to take them for recycling when we go to the supermarket.

Another for spare change.

We have dozens of the things and put them out for recycling every couple of months. The GU is one of the few deserts we all agree on, there’s always loads in the house.

Talia99 · 22/01/2023 08:36

To hold the milk / melted butter to brush on the top of things I am baking.

To hold egg yolks after using only egg white or vice versa.

Phrenologistsfinger · 22/01/2023 08:37

Plant cutting jar for windowsill
tealights
loose change or stones
food prep - eg store chopped garlic
snacks - nuts or olives
dipping sauces, eg soy or sweet chili
loose spices, eg if I grate szechuan peppercorns for sprinkling on a meal

lids are genius -thanks!

KangarooKenny · 22/01/2023 08:37

I keep them, unused, in the cupboard. When I get fed up of moving them around to get other stuff, I put them in the recycling.
