What do you do with Gu ramekins?

ChimChimeny · 22/01/2023 08:02

We've recently had 6 Gu puddings (what luxury 😁) and I've diligently washed the ramekins but I don't know what to do with them now.

Seems a waste just to recycle them but not sure what we could use them for...

Wooden lids will be a game changer. I use them to make more desserts in. I get more use though from the tapas style dishes that Aldi (and other places) sell cheese to bake in. Those are really useful not just for tapas but little tartlets, snacks, small change. I think being slightly wider helps. Maybe wooden lids will transform the glass ones.

elevenplusdilemma · 22/01/2023 08:55

@HiccupHorrendousHaddock they fit better on the glass than the ceramic ones. They're not an airtight seal but are good enough for covering things in the fridge or to allow you to stack the pots (eg for crafting things).

emmama2 · 22/01/2023 08:56

We got some cheap glass engravers from Lidl and use the ramekins as practice glass engravers- my youth group love doing it

purpledalmation · 22/01/2023 08:57

Mix my hair bleach in them (roots only). Perfect size for the roots brush to fit in

PrancerandDancer · 22/01/2023 08:59

As others have said craft/paint pots.

Also have one by the kettle to collect tea bags.

Loving the ideas on here though

ChimChimeny · 22/01/2023 08:59

So many ideas!

We do have one for paint water already & a couple in the cupboard which get in the way/fall over but I like the idea of puddings/snacks/dips etc.

I wish I had a bunch of hedgehogs I could feed with them though 😍

Handy for using to break eggs into before poaching

RudsyFarmer · 22/01/2023 09:05

We use them as used teabag holders, loose coin jar, snack pot, little pudding pot that goes on the lunch plate and put fruit in it. Glue pot when the kids are crafting. Any time I need a small pot the Gu ramekins come out.

Baked eggs
Individual mini frittatas

wouldnt charity shops take them?

We would in ours, but they really don't sell. The GU ones are really quite small and useless. The larger ceramic ones you get with some expensive desserts do sell a bit better,

Comes back to the old mantra about charity shops - why would you donate something that you wouldn't buy yourself?

Just put in the recylcing. And vote with your feet by not buying them again.

Notgoodatchoosingnames · 22/01/2023 09:08

Someone got there before me to say you can buy lids. They're great. So i use them for storage or also for mini crmubles/desserts if i am making a big one so i can take a smaller portion to elderly relatives

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 22/01/2023 09:10

I sometimes make a chocolate ganache in them for a quick and easy dessert. 50:50 dark chocolate melted then stir in double cream, pour into dishes makes quite a solid dessert, increase the proportion of cream for something less solid. Bonus is that you then don't get more ramekins either. Still makes me chubby though, haven't cracked that!

Individual apple crumbles can feel quite decadent too.

sunseaandme · 22/01/2023 09:14

I keep them for dip pots, like if we have spring rolls or something I put sweet chilli sauce in one

LadyWithLapdog · 22/01/2023 09:18

I remembered that I also have a couple in the garden for water for the birds. But mostly, recycling bin.

WetLettuce2 · 22/01/2023 09:19

I use mine for left over cheesecake mix - so I end up with one big one & a few little individual ones.

imtiredandiwanttogotobed · 22/01/2023 09:19

Pringle lids fit on them
perfectly to use as storage

LadyWithLapdog · 22/01/2023 09:20

@Unexpecteddrivinginstructor I hadn’t realised that was the basics of a ganache recipe! I’ll definitely look into this. Thank you.

Trixiefirecracker · 22/01/2023 09:22

I haven’t read all thread so apologies but think Pringle plastic tops fit them?

Bestcatmum · 22/01/2023 09:23

I eat chia seed pudding out of them as they are the right portion size.
I use them for painting my dollshouse bits and pieces. For staining wood, Freezing small portions of food.
For putting condiments in, I'm always using them.

IHeartGeneHunt · 22/01/2023 09:23

Dips, or if I'm feeling fancy then I'll make pate and put it in them as individual portions. Also good for glue/paint

GlassBunion · 22/01/2023 08:55

My hoard of around 40 of the bastards are piled up in my sideboard for all the dipping sauces that I never make.

This was where I ended up.

I used to buy them when the DC were at home and when I reached the point of trying to force a use into the endless little pots I put the lot in recycling.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2023 09:24

Coffeecreme · 22/01/2023 08:06

wouldnt charity shops take them?

I tried. They don't want them, said nobody buys them.

SmudgeButt · 22/01/2023 09:25

I use them in the greenhouse for soaking seeds or storing seeds for the next year.

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 22/01/2023 09:25

I sit one by the kettle for used teabags/teaspoons. Just one at a time while the other six sit in the cupboard patiently waiting their turn.

I might make life more exciting for them and get some tealights out later.
