What do you do with Gu ramekins?

We've recently had 6 Gu puddings (what luxury 😁) and I've diligently washed the ramekins but I don't know what to do with them now.

Seems a waste just to recycle them but not sure what we could use them for...

I bought a tube of Pringles just for the lid for a Gu glass ramekin. It didn't fit, it was slightly too large. If I could get lids that actually fitted then I'd use them for something rather than putting them in the recycling.

When I buy big tubs of yogurt, I spoon it into Gu ramekins for the kids. We use them quite a lot as little dessert bowls.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 22/01/2023 09:27

@LadyWithLapdog I think technically you should melt the cream and then grate the chocolate in, but who has time for that? I just melt the chocolate in a dish over boiling water then stir in the cream and wait (or not wait depending on how greedy I am). 50:50 is fairly solid in a fridge after an hour, so you could go for more cream. Even managed a fairly decent one with oat cream if someone can't have milk.

I use one for setting used teabags in until they get transferred to the food waste bin. My youngest likes to eat yoghurt from them. I also use them for dips. I have thrown loads away over the years though and don't buy the desserts now, even though they are often temptingly discounted, because I don't want any more of those bastard ramekins😅

Hellybelly84 · 22/01/2023 09:29

Snack bowls, beans/gravy (for my son who doesn’t like his dinner covered in them), olives. They are really useful!

Favouritefruits · 22/01/2023 09:30

We use them as paint pots when the children are painting.

LeFeu · 22/01/2023 09:31

Paint/water/glue
beads/buttons/sequins
when my kids are too old for that sort of messy play/craft I shall be recycling them all!

Prettypaisleyslippers · 22/01/2023 09:32

I use them for a dollop of cranberry or other sauces, also cat food/water

LadyWithLapdog · 22/01/2023 09:32

@Unexpecteddrivinginstructor thanks, one for the afternoon.

burnoutbabe · 22/01/2023 09:32

Use them for

Holding the days used tea spoons

Handy for cleaning earrings in.

2 for luck!

Else 4 is enough. Rest can be recycled

In case anyone else couldn't make that link work -
www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/lemon-posset-sugared-almond-shortbread

Or if you're lazy like me....empty a tin of sweetened condensed milk into a bowl, add lemon juice (try 1 lemon's worth) and stir. it should thicken but if it doesn't add more lemon juice.

Put a layer of fruit in the Gu pots, top with the lemon/milk mix and pop in the fridge to set. Or you could add a layer of crushed digestives under the lemon/milk mix and top with fruit/jam to make mini cheese cakes.

Rubyupbeat · 22/01/2023 09:34

Recycled

lljkk · 22/01/2023 09:35

Storing (in fridge or on counter) small amounts of things like cherries, tomatoes, bits of exotic cheese, etc. Rather than keep large packaging.

Afolnerd · 22/01/2023 09:35

They are used as food and water bowls for the hamster here.

Coffeecreme · 22/01/2023 08:06

wouldnt charity shops take them?

Who would buy them?

DipperandMabel · 22/01/2023 09:36

I use them to make individual angel delight as it’s just the right amount for the kids to enjoy! Plus it looks a bit fancier than a bowl which is what I used to make it in. ANGEL DELIGHT yum! going to make some now….

BeyondMyWits · 22/01/2023 09:39

I don't buy them any more. Felt guilty that I couldn't use them all. Felt guilty at adding to the recycling heap.

Life's too short to feel guilty about pudding, pudding should be a joy... so we choose other stuff now.

Jellylover · 22/01/2023 09:41

Just don’t buy them and throw the ones you have in the recycling. They are too ugly to use again with the screw top.

PixiePop147 · 22/01/2023 09:44

A Pringles lid fits on top perfectly, I use them to store odd bits and bobs that I’d otherwise never see again 😂

mrsbyers · 22/01/2023 09:47

Recycle them

drammatico · 22/01/2023 09:48

I use on for wet tea bags. I keep 6 in the cupboard in case we want to use them for a homemade dessert. I recycle the rest, just as I would with a glass bottle.

bellac11 · 22/01/2023 09:49

God OH wont throw this sort of thing away, plus the little terracotta dishes that some oven baked dishes come in. I once opened a cupboard that had about 20 of them stacked precariously on top of each other like some tapas leaning tower of pisa

I chuck them away sporadically, theres only so many you need in the house.

amberedover · 22/01/2023 09:50

I bake eggs in them for breakfast. Bit of oil, crack the egg in. 15 minutes in the oven, like the diet version of a fried egg.
@Cuppaand2biscuits what temp do you cook at please ?

Scottishskifun · 22/01/2023 09:52

Combination of things - great for portions of angel delight for kids, dessert portions moose or posset, mixing cornflour and water in to thicken sauces, water and paint pots, snack pots and tealight holders for around the bath

amberedover · 22/01/2023 09:52

Or if you're lazy like me....empty a tin of sweetened condensed milk into a bowl, add lemon juice (try 1 lemon's worth) and stir. it should thicken but if it doesn't add more lemon juice.

Oh damn you @SmudgeButt for reminding me of this calorific emergency pud!
