The bulb went in the oven a few weeks ago and keep forgetting to order a new one. I forgot to turn it off last night when I finished using it, walked into the hall kitchen this morning and it was like when you step out of the airport on holiday. Guess how much this cost me?

12 hours say electric cookers use about 1kw ( average 0.87) an hour so 12 KWH at 34p roughly £8.08

determinedtomakethiswork · 21/01/2023 11:40

£20

NeverTalksToStrangers2 · 21/01/2023 11:40

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 21/01/2023 11:41

QuestionableMouse · 21/01/2023 11:42

Gas or electric oven?

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 21/01/2023 11:42

but some ovens are 3kwh which would make 12 hours about £12

Dodie66 · 21/01/2023 11:43

£14

MaverickGooseGoose · 21/01/2023 11:43

Are you going to tell us?!

£3.

pursudebyablackdog · 21/01/2023 11:44

Electric or gas?
What setting was the temperature?
How long did you leave it on for?
What is your price tariff?
How old is the oven?
All the above will contribute to the cost!
Slow cook in a modern oven will be cheaper than highest temperature in an old oven! Does a lovely warm kitchen out do the running cost though op?

Shitfather · 21/01/2023 11:44

8 was the first and instantaneous figure that popped into my head. Now put us out of our misery.

slavetothekittens · 21/01/2023 11:45

£7.53

Coffeellama · 21/01/2023 11:45

Come on @FluffyUnionSocks give us the answer

gamerchick · 21/01/2023 11:45

No way to answer. Ovens aren't universal.

StrawberryMuffins · 21/01/2023 11:45

I believe that if you average a group of people's guesses on absolutely anything, the result tends to be pretty close to the true answer. Even if they have no real concept of the ball park they are guessing in It would be interesting to know how close our collective average is to the true answer.

Though it's not a proper experiment be ause we can all see each other's answers.

ReneBumsWombats · 21/01/2023 11:47

A million quid.

stairgates · 21/01/2023 11:47

£6.15

BarbaraofSeville · 21/01/2023 11:47

£6.66 but depends on temperature, time elapsed and insulation.

Our ovens are so well insulated that there's still residual heat hours after they've been turned off, so they're probably not running at full pelt all the time they're switched on.

GiantKitten · 21/01/2023 11:48

They’re not ON all the time though
The heat cycles off and on to maintain temp, and door’s not opened, & there’s nothing in there.
If it was heating up for half the time, over eg 12 hours, it might use 1kw per hour - at 35p per kWh that’s £4.20.

EwwSprouts · 21/01/2023 11:48

£9.99
