Kucinghitam · 13/01/2023 17:17

Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 & 2 & 3.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Is that a TFC, Gin?

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 05/02/2023 20:19

I miss the museums and galleries - I need to start doing regular bus trips to Dublin for some culture vulturing - even every couple of months would be good. Trouble is, Covid puts me off.

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/02/2023 20:24

@duc748 Whilsr TFC is pretty decent the particular one I am referring to is Khan's Bargain. A Peckham legend.

duc748 · 05/02/2023 20:28

Heh! I'm sure my ds knows it. If it's in S London, and it's food or beer...

Britinme · 05/02/2023 20:55

Middle Eastern food is very easy to find around here. Indian and Thai and Chinese can be found pretty easily too - there are grocers all over the place. Regular supermarkets don't stock that kind of thing so much though. This is a very foody city though.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 06/02/2023 00:08

Apologies for bringing it up it's just I had no idea that that particular type of thing was happening. My interpretation of how it's handled here is in generalisations with very few names being used apart from the one who set the place up and has had a fit of the vapours left right and centre. To be fair to him I've happily read those because he was a dick x number of years back when I waved adieu for similar though different reasons. All other names have remained unmentioned and frankly, I'd have no idea who/what/where/why/whatever was being referred to and I'm sure that would be the same for most people. Again, it was the copying and pasting that surprised me and made me comment because whatever way you look at it that is not a good thing to do and nothing approaching that level of snide behaviour has happened in this brave new world.

And onward! Happy Valley was wonderful tonight. I loved the way they handled everything. I really didn't know how they'd tie up so many loose ends but they did and in the way I'd expect Sally Wainwright to do it. No big unbelievable nonsense, just mostly realistic stuff. I'm sure some will be disappointed by the mostly ordinariness of it all but I was very satisfied. I'll miss it thobut. I hope she comes up with something new soon. I loved Last Tango in Halifax too. She makes me want to live up north and if I wasn't now so utterly happy by the sea I'd seriously consider it.

duc748 · 06/02/2023 00:21

36 pages of HV posts since yesterday! 😳

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 06/02/2023 07:44

Vaguely wondering why the radio is playing music to me instead of analysing news stories and I've just remembered it's a bank holiday! The first time this one has happened, so there's some excuse for me. I can see it becoming a favourite, particularly if there's weather that lets people get outside.

I hope those of you who have to go to work have nice days too.

MavisMcMinty · 06/02/2023 08:20

Watched Happy Valley at 05.30, as I went “for a nap” at 19.00 last night and slept all night, as is my wont. Wow! Wept for the last half hour.

I’m a shit photographer, any good ones posted here are taken by macman, so this one doesn’t accurately reflect how gorgeous the pink sky was this morning. (It was even pinker last night, so shepherd’s warning can get tae fuck.)

For a shit photographer, you've managed an excellent picture!

Kucinghitam · 06/02/2023 10:30

Beautiful sky, @MavisMcMinty.

As the short-lived Boggle thread got the MN-special treatment, I'll pop this here, and wistfully ponder having the funds to (a) buy it and (b) update the bits that need updating:

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/131378096?

My other random thought - brrr, it's cold.

There was a little bit of ice here, early on. When I went out with the dog, it was 2°, with Light Air. The merest ripples on the surface of the sea and in the bright sun, it was rather pleasant. It's now 6° !

Ginmonkeyagain · 06/02/2023 10:43

I like the blue tiled bathroom in the Leeds house (so much house for the money!) but am a little perplexed as to why it appears to have a full tea set on the windowsill!

Haha, I didn't notice that! I wonder if that bathroom is original to the house? The tiles are gorgeous and the tub looks amazing too.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 06/02/2023 10:54

The Leeds house is gorgeous- all that space, indoors and out. I'd want to redecorate lots, but not the bathroom.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 06/02/2023 11:11

I think the bathroom tiles may well be original - they look flat (and fitted very close, with minimal grout, like our 1930s bathroom) whereas modern metro tiles tend to have a bit of a bevel.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 06/02/2023 13:26

That is a very handsome house. Not sure about the original status of the bathroom tiles because the colour would be unusual for the period. Even if they're not completely original they've definitely been there a long time. I'd rip up the carpet thobut.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 06/02/2023 13:35

Ooh that is nice.

Britinme · 06/02/2023 13:43

I love that house!

Tricyrtis2022 · 06/02/2023 15:51

I like that house too, very much. The bathroom is fabulous.

Just had a very pleasant few hours pruning roses in a friend's garden. Pruning roses is my favourite job. Whilst there, her handyman showed up and we had a chat and somehow got onto the subject of old comedy. He said about Abbott and Costello's 'Who's On First', which I'm familiar with, then I did the George and Gracie skit 'Lamb chops' which he didn't know but liked very much. Curious, these fleeting meetings where you find something in common.

Ginmonkeyagain · 06/02/2023 16:42

To act as a foil to the earlier lovely property, This sad little dump appeared in my local searches. What on earth went wrong?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 06/02/2023 16:58

Liberal application of the Do Not Use tape.

Beautiful sky...

Aargh! Carpeted bathroom alert! Whoooop! Whoooop" Waaahh!

To act as a foil to the earlier lovely property...

Over half a million Quid? It needs a lick of paint.

Tricyrtis2022 · 06/02/2023 17:05

Blimey, over half a million for that dump?
