Thread 4 - TalkExiles: "The Planet Goes On Being Round"

1000 replies

Kucinghitam · 13/01/2023 17:17

Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 & 2 & 3.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Oh that's awful Kuc, on your trip to see your family. I assume you've tested for Covid? I hope it's not that.

Kucinghitam · 03/02/2023 02:37

Not COVID, thank fuck. But shit, nevertheless.

It sounds a little like the virus I, and many others had around Christmas/New Year. I hope it clears up quickly and that your dad isn't too badly affected by it.

In good news today I found out that I can, hopefully, get Django neutered for a fiver due to me being poor. I'm calling the number I was given tomorrow and have my fingers crossed that I'll get the deal so I can get him done before he becomes a maniac and starts to spray all over the place. It always makes me sad though because, and yes I'm a weirdo, there's something so cute about cats' little testicles. I think it's because they're so compact and not hanging and swinging like bigger animals and humans. We had a Tuxedo cat before Francis who had little two-tone balls, one was black and one was white. So cute. Anyway! Aesthetics aside I want to get it done as soon as possible, spraying aside there's a possibility that he'll find his way off the terrace and impregnate some poor female cat and I'm not having that on my conscience.

In other good news, I remembered that I had some Celebrations left over from Christmas, well half a bag, so I ate some this evening.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/02/2023 07:26

That sounds like the thing I (and lots and lots of my neighbours and friends) got after Christmas - warning, it lasted more that three weeks. I don't know what the Malaysian version of hot cider vinegar and honey drinks is, but there must be something - heat, acidity, antiseptic properties.

I hope it isn't going to spoil your enjoyment of being home, and that the oldies all shake it off quickly. Obviously also that you shake it off quickly as well.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/02/2023 07:28

Cross posted, wishing Django well.

SinnerBoy · 03/02/2023 07:34

Sorry to hear about your chest infection, @Kucinghitam

I hope you're all well again, soon!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 03/02/2023 10:09

Hot calamansi juice and honey? Hope it clears up quickly, whatever it is.

MavisMcMinty · 03/02/2023 12:47

Wow Crows, a black ball and a white ball? Badger’s black and white but both his balls are quite startlingly black, and he likes to lie around on his back displaying them.

MavisMcMinty · 03/02/2023 12:48

Sorry to hear of Kuc’s lurgy, hope everyone gets better soon. xx

MavisMcMinty · 03/02/2023 12:58

MN question: Now I’m receiving notifications on AIBU threads about people voting on threads I’ve voted on and I really don’t care about that. Seems to be a new feature, and when I go to Notifications under My Account I can’t find a way to turn them off.

I have managed to turn off email notifications, finally, hooray!

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/02/2023 13:14

I'm annoyed by that too, Mavis, and now open the pages I want to look at and click on 'mark all as read' and that does the trick.

Gonners · 03/02/2023 13:17

I haven't had that happen, but most things seem to toggle under My Mumsnet -> Settings -> Notifications -> Web Notifications. There's an entry there for "Notify me when there are updates on AIBU thread polls I've voted on" which I have set to No.

Winterborne74 · 03/02/2023 13:33

Brilliant. That's been bugging me too, and now it's fixed. Sorry to hear Kuc's health woes.

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/02/2023 13:35

Thanks, Gonners, I've fixed it properly now.

MavisMcMinty · 03/02/2023 13:41

Brilliant, thanks @Gonners!

I was sad when I took K to be neutered but when I got him home I wondered whether the vet had forgotten to remove them. I think he was perhaps blessed with large ones. Didn’t think it was possible to find testicles cute.

SinnerBoy · 03/02/2023 16:55

Gonners

I couldn't be faffed to whine about that, but thanks, anyway!

Anyway, I've been for a job interview today, for an onshore job. One of my interviewers was a girl I did GCSE, A Level and my degree with. Did I say girl? Gulp! She has three boys, 11, 16 & 18. We last saw each other 20 mumble something years ago.

No, I'm not expecting any nepotism.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 03/02/2023 17:23

Good luck, Sinner.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 03/02/2023 17:23

Good luck, Sinner.

SinnerBoy · 03/02/2023 17:33

Thanks, Bint!

Thanks, Bint!

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/02/2023 17:45

Hope you get the job, Sinner.

MavisMcMinty · 03/02/2023 18:25

Yes, good luck Sinner!

Just saw an interesting post on another thread about men having a different posting/speaking style to women, and that it can be easy to tell despite the anonymity of the username. Reminded me of solarplexus in the other place, I was amazed when “she” said she was a she. Never believed it.

Dotellhimpike · 03/02/2023 18:31

Best of luck Sinner!

UnfortunatePoster · 03/02/2023 19:00

Good luck Sinner!

I'd forgotten about Solar, she used to cause some right kerfuffles on the preg thread, usually arguing with Jem IIRC.

duc748 · 03/02/2023 19:02

Mavis> There are a few in the old place I'm not sure about too! (Not Like That). I'd say in most cases it's fairly obvious. Including my own.

Are you planning to be a full-time land-lubber now, Sinner?
