Anyone like to chat about jigsaws?

I've only very recently started a jigsaw and so far I'm really enjoying it! I'm sick fed up of aimlessly scrolling on my phone every evening until bedtime. I feel like I'm wasting so much time! I'm a reader but a few chapters at a time is my limit before my mind starts to wonder or I find myself skim reading, even when I'm really enjoying the book this happens. Also in the evenings I used to cross stitch and I had started to learn how to crochet ( very basic level ) and all of this has fallen to the side in favour at staring at a screen.

So this year I've decided to make more of an effort to get back into these hobbies and thats when I decided to try jigsaws.

I got my first jigsaw from the charity shop last week for £1.50 ( love a bargain ) its a garden bird scene with a watering can, various flowers and some insects ( 1000 piece ) not sure if that was a bit adventurous 😂I'm around halfway and I have to admit I'm thoroughly enjoying the challenge! It's very satisfying watching it come together slowly.

I've got another charity shop find lined up to do next its a 500 piece old fashioned greengrocers.

So if anyone would like to chat please feel free 🙂

Love the Swedish fishing village puzzle , I may have to get that when we’ve worked through some of the ones we’ve already got .

Bookist · 21/01/2023 22:36

Love a jigsaw. Recently invested in a rigid puzzle mat but its baize covering isn't stretched taught over the board, so it gathers in the corner. I can't tell you how infuriating this is.

Are Wentworth puzzles really worth the money? I like a puzzle that has a satisfying sound when the pieces click together.

PoseyFlump · 21/01/2023 22:40

@Bookist I was wondering the same thing about Wentworth recently so I've ordered a small one to try. Just waiting on delivery.

Since lockdown I have been doing jigsaws. I can only do them once and then move on to the next. I just do a few pieces at a time, usually when I'm waiting for the kettle to boil or cooking. I make sets of colours & then sets of shapes to make it easier. Does anyone else do this?. I do this and also when I finish put the edges into a separate bag from the rest. I prefer 1000 piece but have done one 500 but found it too east. I am doing another 500 just now but again it's too easy. I like to take my time and always have another ready to go.
If anyone in NE Scotland wants to swap I have about 8 or 9. If not I'll just put them to the charity shop.

weknowfrogsgotralalalala · 22/01/2023 09:18

We’ve started doing them in the evenings to stop the scrolling.

we finished this one last night, only 500 pieces so not too difficult. But I’m now itching to start another one.

There’s a great shop in my town which has jigsaws on offer at the moment and so I’ll stock up so we have some to keep us going.

Loving this thread and the suggestions! I hadn’t done a jigsaw since I was a child, but am trying to lose weight so have been doing jigsaws in the evenings to avoid picking at food. I am genuinely enjoying doing them.

Floralnomad · 22/01/2023 15:17

Just finished the one I’ve been doing

Me too - I like the pictures on the corner piece jigsaws - slightly old fashioned I think. I just finished this one - only500 pieces so was quick.

I know we all like doing different things and I'm not disparaging anyone's hobbies on a personal level because I know I'm bring unreasonable but I just cannot see the point of them! They make me feel quite irritable.

Thanks for sharing @Veryactivenymphomaniac

If your username is anything to go by you probably don't have the time anyway 😂

So for the first time ever I've got a piece missing in a brand new jigsaw puzzle. I knew immediately it was missing due to its colour. I've contacted the company and they've promised to replace. For anyone who completes a huge amount of jigsaws, have you had this often?

I hate to point out the bleedin’ obvious in response to this but - Feel free to not do them and also to not post on a thread for people who like to chat about jigsaws?

Whaaasaat. No, never. Nightmare. Glad they're replacing and hope you don't find the missing piece under the rug.

PoseyFlump · 01/02/2023 08:06

That's the thing @Coxspurplepippin I figured out it was missing within 5 minutes of opening due to where I started in the puzzle and sorted out those colours. So no walking away from it, no pesky pets or people nearby. Kind of ruined the whole experience too because all I could think was 'need to finish this and take a photo to email off'.

We’ve had it a few times , the last was a Christmas jigsaw but I’d bought it from the local Ravensburger shop so took photos , the receipt and took it back for an exchange . The sales assistant said it happens quite a lot .

I guess someone must be the unlucky one who gets the jigsaw dropped on the factory floor! But I must admit, whenever I see someone complaining in an Amazon review etc I just assume they lost it themselves 😂

I've just ordered a few jigsaws from Georges of Whitstable in their sale so hope none of those are missing as it might take me a bit of time to get through them!
