Anyone like to chat about jigsaws?

I've only very recently started a jigsaw and so far I'm really enjoying it! I'm sick fed up of aimlessly scrolling on my phone every evening until bedtime. I feel like I'm wasting so much time! I'm a reader but a few chapters at a time is my limit before my mind starts to wonder or I find myself skim reading, even when I'm really enjoying the book this happens. Also in the evenings I used to cross stitch and I had started to learn how to crochet ( very basic level ) and all of this has fallen to the side in favour at staring at a screen.

So this year I've decided to make more of an effort to get back into these hobbies and thats when I decided to try jigsaws.

I got my first jigsaw from the charity shop last week for £1.50 ( love a bargain ) its a garden bird scene with a watering can, various flowers and some insects ( 1000 piece ) not sure if that was a bit adventurous 😂I'm around halfway and I have to admit I'm thoroughly enjoying the challenge! It's very satisfying watching it come together slowly.

I've got another charity shop find lined up to do next its a 500 piece old fashioned greengrocers.

So if anyone would like to chat please feel free 🙂

I have a jigsaw app on my phone and do a daily free one. Don't have the time for a proper one but have said to DH that when we buy a house I want a table with one on the go. DH said I was being v old fashioned 🙄

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 15/01/2023 23:57

I love doing jigsaws, I have a proper case for them. Buuut, I have a cat, not only does she sit in the box lid or the bottom bit containing the pieces, she will sit in the middle of the puzzle and push pieces off. Obviously not all at the same time. So these days if I want to do one I have an app.
While doing this I generally listen to a book.

The most recent one were The Cruelty - A Child Unclaimed and The Boy In The Woods. I'm about to start Fairy Meadow

Thank you, I'll take a look! 👍

This is the one I’m working on, only just started. I only ever do jigsaws with images I really like and want to display. My house has 3 floors so a lot of hallway walls and that’s where the majority get hung. I do have the odd one or two in other rooms. I’m a maximalist (the opposite of a minimalist!) so it works in my house. Wouldn’t work with everyone’s decor.

An update on my 'rogue' experiment. It's not for me, starting at one corner. Back to doing the edges first and free style filing. It's more fun!

Phew. There are things in life where it's good to push the boat out, shake things up, test your boundaries etc..how you do a jigsaw is not one of them.
I'm glad normality has been restored.

😂😂

Struggling with all the red and gold in this one! Also the cat in the box isn’t really helping…

I absolutely love all these cats interfering with the jigsaws. So typical. I miss having cats.

PoseyFlump · 21/01/2023 07:22

Oh yes, more cat pics please! 😍

I got this one for Christmas, it was quite hard. I've now been given a Wasgij puzzle which I've not tried before. It looks like it might be quite challenging!

Mentioned earlier on this thread about Wasgij.
Had two for a few years but had never got around to them. Did them over Christmas and they were great fun (challenging at times) so I promptly went out and bought another!

I’m stuck on one that has loads of white. I want to finish it but it’s also driving me mad! This one - www.waterstones.com/product/adult-jigsaw-puzzle-hokusai-the-great-wave/flame-tree-studio/9781787556034

If I ever finish it I’ll happily post it to one of you lot to have a go.

Oh I got that one for Christmas a year or two ago.

It was horrific. The sky was the worst bit. In the end, I was reduced to painstakingly trying every single white piece left in the box against every completed bit of jigsaw because it was all exactly the same colour.

I finished it, because I was determined not to let it beat me, but it wasn’t an enjoyable experience.

I normally keep jigsaws so I can redo them at a later time, but that’s one that left our house very quickly!

mogtheexcellent · 21/01/2023 18:55

I've been coveting the Eboo Swedish Village puzzle for a while, treated myself and its too big for my puzzle board!

Fortunately I have a sheet of ply handy but it means I cant do it in our small living room, so it will have to stay in my office and distract me while I am working.

Gutted! (note to self, check size next time...)

@Pterrydactyl I am going to take your post as a sign to give up on the puzzle. I don’t think I can deal with the sky anymore. I am happy to be beaten by it.

Does anyone want it? I’d happily post it.

LetUsPrey · 21/01/2023 20:57

Just found this thread. Flipping love jigsaws! I’ll read through tomorrow as even just a brief glance through shows lots of interesting information and ideas.

I’ve loads of jigsaws lined up to do but the one I’ve just finished - other than my Christmas advent one - was one of the Rosetta Stone.

Coxspurplepippin · 21/01/2023 21:11

This is a WH Smith 500 piece (chazzer bargain £1.99)

Awe- the Morris Thousand- my childhood right there!!
I too am jigsaw mad. I find that i focus on only one thing, which is unusual in the rest of busy days. Very welcome peace.

I find when I’ve got lots of sky to do that the best way is to sort all the pieces into their different shapes IYSWIM as that way when you are looking for a piece and you know the shape it’s less pieces to sort through . We have puzzle sorter trays so it’s easier to keep all the bits separate .
