Views on Rishi Sunak?

My view is he seems to be an incredibly weak and passive Prime Minister who is missing in action while the country faces crisis after crisis. We could have a cardboard cut out as Prime Minister and I doubt we would notice much difference.

Inflation is expected to go down within the year. Nothing to do with Sunak. Even the TV news is predicting that one.

Bet you were blaming the Tories for it though? Can't have it both ways!

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2023 19:18

He answered for all five. You’d have to find press conference it was in the questions from media

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 04/01/2023 19:19

Rishi sunak the man who the other day was serving food at a homeless shelter, who asked someone he served what business they were in, poor fella replied I'm homeless! Sums up politicians full stop, so far removed from normal life. No idea who I would vote for if I had to right now.

GPTec1 · 04/01/2023 19:20

Yes he did on inflation but then again, he did n't say how & that was the only one.
On waiting lists he said he would cut them, not by how much or by when.

His only achievement was that cat 2 ambulance times almost made target pre covid.

I don't particularly dislike him & rooted for him against Truss but he and his party have had 13 years, seriously how much longer does he need?

He should met with the nurses as well, he is a fool not too, he isn't Thatcher and the RCN isn't the NUM.

CactusFlowers · 04/01/2023 19:24

Everanewbie · 04/01/2023 16:25

@Bluekerfuffle I don't think its fair to write a guy off as not understanding issues faced by ordinary people because he is wealthy. Would you write off someone from a white working class background for not understanding issues faced by second generation immigrants? If he does show a contempt for ordinary, hard working people, I'll be the first person to cross in another box come election day. But from what I've seen he seems like a competent and principled man and I'm willing to see what he does before I judge him.

Well he’s done fuck all so far. And no actual plans to do anything of substance. Just waffle.

dolor · 04/01/2023 19:27

He's an absolute fucking tosser.

imo there’s a natural timeframe anyway as a GE will be in a couple of years and if people think he hasn’t done the five things it makes it easier to decide.

I hope he does because I dread abolition of HoL and various other things. Sunak’s aims are middle of the road normal and I don’t need constitutional reform etc

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/01/2023 19:34

I think this is the final nail in the Tory coffin.

People seem to be seething about the NHS, and CoL. And the majority of people seem to support the strikes.

Tories are out of touch with the national mood.

MissyB1 · 04/01/2023 19:44

AutumnCrow · 04/01/2023 18:21

I just shouted Fuck Off at the radio because Sunak was talking about the NHS as though it was all someone else's fault. Boris Johnson did this - acted like he was the Leader of the Opposition not the bloody Prime Minister.

He doesn't have a Five Point Plan. He has no plans. He has a five point flannel statement.

Dh has got home from a long horribly stressful day in the hospital (he’s a Dr) and listened to Sunak’s lightweight fluffy little promises (with zero detail), and he’s so angry he feels sick.
Absolutely no recognition or mention of the terrifying national crisis we are in right now in our healthcare system.

Cherry60 · 04/01/2023 19:49

He's shallow, dishonest and completely self-interested.

Please tell him from me that he's very much appreciated and worth more than an infinite amount of Sunaks.

Me? 😬how nice of you to chat about me in the other room

I jest I couldn’t care less if it’s that interesting to you, but yeh I don’t get the love for Starmer that others have on here

I think you are mistaking love for Starmer for hatred for a PM who broke the law while in office and has done nothing in his time in government to demonstrate any competence for any position of authority.

MissyB1 · 04/01/2023 20:06

AutumnCrow · 04/01/2023 19:51

Thank you Autumn Crow, he has realised he needs to try and ignore the Government as it’s bad for his health listening to them!

jgw1 · 04/01/2023 20:09

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2023 18:45

Can you ask without insults? I don’t mind answering but people get so personal just due to votes - it’s ludicrous on here at times.

Ok yes Starmer is not for me but mostly due to policies than personality, I could overlook the latter if policies were better

Sunak - I didn’t mind his aims today. Let’s see if he can deliver on them. But mostly I need someone who gets that you can’t just do fairy tale economics, he predicted what the mini budget would do exactly, and would be more against another lockdown etc than others. He also said a lot of what I was thinking re the pandemic approach afterwards

See if I can post my answer without jibes incoming ;

Are you aware of how long Sunak has been in government?
Why was it necessary for him to state his aims today? Surely he would be listing all the amazing achievements of his time in government?

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2023 20:10

Oh I’m hearing the hatred too (re the FPN really.. ) It just doesn’t surprise me from Labour voters on these threads. I mean what else are you going to say…

If you never vote Tory he’s hardly going to persuade you. But it’s not that interesting, it’s the middle ground voters they need.

jgw1 · 04/01/2023 20:10

Happygirl79 · 04/01/2023 18:57

I totally agree with everything you have said. Some brilliant posters on here. I'm pleased to know that some people can see through all the false promises of this government
They will never get my vote after this shitshow

I get the impresion that there are rather lot of people on here and in the wider community I talk to who have voted for a variety of parties in the past, but will not for a good long time vote for one particular party in the future.

jgw1 · 04/01/2023 20:12

GPTec1 · 04/01/2023 19:07

No one could seriously disagree with what Sunak wants but he has been in Govt for many years, his party for almost 13, it was all hot air.

He gave no time frames or any clue as to how he will achieve any of them..

He says they will get 7000 extra hospital beds, where? and who will staff them?

He wont even talk to staff to pause the strikes.

Probably he gave no figures, because you know maths A-level...

jgw1 · 04/01/2023 20:18

BradfordGirl · 04/01/2023 19:16

I thought everyone knew that. Given that inflation was driven by fuel prices a a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the price for example of gas is now back down to the level it was last year, why is anyone impressed by a statement of the obvious?
In fact the question should be why is my gas bill not the same as it was last year.

Whats FPN ?

People, generally, are sick to death with hardship and always feeling poor, maybe thats not something that effects you but it does for millions of others and the tide has changed.

The real question is if Sunak can turn that tide and on todays showing, he will not, a Grieve or a R. Stewart, yes, Labour would be in real trouble but not with Sunak who is to the right of the Tory party.

Few like extremes.

Why do you dread the abolition of a part of our democracy in which obtaining a seat has more to do with how much you pay than any merit or election?

Could it be that the problem people had with the Tories and inflation is that had absolutely zero plan or understanding of the problems it was causing. See for example voting against help with energy bills last January.
