Views on Rishi Sunak?

My view is he seems to be an incredibly weak and passive Prime Minister who is missing in action while the country faces crisis after crisis. We could have a cardboard cut out as Prime Minister and I doubt we would notice much difference.

I’m in the private sector so I’m used to redundancies when demand goes down. I find the public sector culture (which may still be there after privatisation) less conducive to that kind of change.

Ok so you agree with market forces determining pay.

What's the issue with Starmer's back bench and the current tory lot ? sadly Diane Abbott isn't there to take the usual flak
Starmer cannot win. One minute it's 'he's got no policies, just criticises the government to score political points' - simultaneously 'I don't like his policies' (which don't exist apparently). Left wing of the party think he's a red tory and to middle Enland on te other hand he's a commie.
So which is it ?
I 'd just like to know how bad these lot have to get and actually what Starmer has to do to change peoples' minds'. Don't people read or listen to the news ?

BradfordGirl · 04/01/2023 18:06

@MarshaBradyo Thanks for confirming that. I am a centrist as well.
Starmer is clearly a centrist. It is why as someone says he gets called a red Tory by the left and a Commie by the right. It is what our country needs. The last thing we need is the extremes.

Tory Cunt

FixundFoxi · 04/01/2023 18:10

@BradfordGirl
Some posters are on every bl**dy thread insulting Starmer.

It's like they read different news to every one else.
One regular poster keeps banging on about certain people being welded to a particular party (Labour) but cannot see the irony that she is always ambivalent about how shit the tories are and how meh Starmer is. Sadly I think so many posters on here are wealthy and insulated they just can't entertain any kind of change.

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2023 16:28

I think there are voters who will never vote Tory no matter who is there so there’s probably little point in saying to them why you think he’s good.

But it’s the centre ground as usual who swing elections as we’ve seen with past landslides. Having said that he may poll higher than his party and there’s a lot of ground to make up so who knows, he could be better but not win still.

I’m not one who will never vote Tory. I’m more wary of Labour in general, and I’m not just writing him off because he’s wealthy. It’s the fact that he comes across and not being at all connected to most people’s reality and being totally unaffected by any of the hardships caused by the state of the country, so I don’t think he’s going to be particularly bothered about making meaningful changes or passionate about making them work.

But you didn’t answer? 😬

If you haven’t voted Tory it’s fine just to say… There’s no shame either way, but it’s interesting who has passed muster as a Tory if you’re a centrist. For Labour Blair is an easy one as he’s clearly more central than others.

fwiw spending under Tories has been high enough to move them to centre - and Johnson clearly managed to take the centre although aided by opposition leader of course.

I look at Sunak giving another £900, doing WFT and has been called a ‘socialist’ in the past by his party, it’s not extreme as last PM. He targets lower incomes with cash payouts but he does have a problem re too wealthy due to recent campaign re his wife.

Me? 😬how nice of you to chat about me in the other room

I jest I couldn’t care less if it’s that interesting to you, but yeh I don’t get the love for Starmer that others have on here

I wouldn’t say he hasn’t policies.. just that he drops the ones he does

i think charisma is an over rated trait. I’d prefer someone boring and reliable and honest. Such as Theresa May if Rishi is equally gifted in the sense department he’ll get my vote. He also knows what a woman is.
BJ had plenty of charisma and so does Trump.

Theresa May was responsible for creating the Trans disaster that was Self ID.

GPTec1 · 04/01/2023 18:20

You’re doing well but it’s not you. Some are firmly fixed to a party already no matter the arguments made

Rather ironic coming from a poster who is very much wedded to the Tory party reading through the last few pages of this thread.

I ve voted Tory, i voted for my local Tory MP when Thatcher & Major were in power, i didn't disagree with everything they did but the tory party of the last few years is extreme in their views, far beyond the one nation conservativism which is my family background, i never voted for Cameron because he struck me as an extremely weak person.

I also believe any Govt should be given a full term, possibly longer to get their ideas implemented, this Government has been in for well over 12 years, its time for a change and any improvements will take a long time, should Lab get in, they will inherit one of the worst economies & public sectors since WW2.

But Sunak says we need to learn maths, he is completely out of touch.

AutumnCrow · 04/01/2023 18:21

I just shouted Fuck Off at the radio because Sunak was talking about the NHS as though it was all someone else's fault. Boris Johnson did this - acted like he was the Leader of the Opposition not the bloody Prime Minister.

He doesn't have a Five Point Plan. He has no plans. He has a five point flannel statement.

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2023 18:22

Nope as I said who I’ve voted for it’s clearly not one party. Try again.

AutumnCrow · 04/01/2023 18:25

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/01/2023 18:19

Absolutely. Theresa May was taken in by nutters like Crispin Blunt, Maria Miller and Penny Mordaunt. Bloody shameful behaviour for a Tory.

GPTec1 · 04/01/2023 18:34

@AutumnCrow

I don't understand how voters and the media give them this, Sunak was behaving as if he'd been in opposition.

Its his disastrous energy support package which will be the ruin of this country, we cannot afford to give energy support to rich businesses and individuals, whilst those that need it, struggle or will go bust.

Support for business in April will halve :( but amazon BP and Shell et el will get their support! ffs target it.

FixundFoxi · 04/01/2023 18:40

@MarshaBradyo nah. What's interesting is your affection for the Conservatives.
Can you even articulate why you think they are doing a good job ?
You don't like Starmer, fine. I think he's a bit wet tbh and sometimes I'm frustrated by his reluctance to really speak his mind but I realise that if he makes one false step the right wing press will harpoon him. He has to tread carefully.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/01/2023 18:44

Just watched the news. What a useless cunt he is.

Imagine in industry having targets but not saying how you are going to achieve them! And then to tackle waiting lists. Yeah, they’re important but A and E is urgent.

Can you ask without insults? I don’t mind answering but people get so personal just due to votes - it’s ludicrous on here at times.

Ok yes Starmer is not for me but mostly due to policies than personality, I could overlook the latter if policies were better

Sunak - I didn’t mind his aims today. Let’s see if he can deliver on them. But mostly I need someone who gets that you can’t just do fairy tale economics, he predicted what the mini budget would do exactly, and would be more against another lockdown etc than others. He also said a lot of what I was thinking re the pandemic approach afterwards

See if I can post my answer without jibes incoming ;

Right again, bellini, we wont be rid of this lot until they've scraped the last of the gold leaf off the wall and stolen the last coin out of the poor box. Proper scorched earth for the welfare state and salting the fields for good measure. We can all fight over what's left.

Absolutely spot on

Lives in another world far removed from the average peasant, isn’t affected by any of the problems that affect most people and doesn’t even understand some of them. And as could apply to all of them, doesn’t really care about changing anything or feel any pressure to, he’ll be paid either way.

You are so right

In my opinion he is a weak minded, money greedy, piece of lowlife who received a fpn for partying during lockdown underlying he believes he is different to the general population and special so the rules don't apply to him.

He is dishonest, shown by his pretence of owning someone else's car and has no understanding of how normal people live- couldn't understand to pay for the petrol he put in the car he pretended was his.

He has little loyalty to this country- green card for USA held while an MP, wife registered as a nom dom hardly screams settled, resident of the UK with a determination to put this countries interests first. His family income includes money from a company (infosis) which I understand is still operating in Russia.

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2022/nov/04/infosys-still-operating-russia-rishi-sunak-akshata-murty

In short I think he's an arrogant piece of shit who shouldn't have got anywhere near Downing Street as his values are polar opposite to my own and that he has means that something is rotten at the heart of politics for him to have had any support from the conservative party.

This is my opinion, not fact but I await deletion anyway (despite trying to be polite and give reasons for my revulsion to the ideology he seems to stand for).

I totally agree with everything you have said. Some brilliant posters on here. I'm pleased to know that some people can see through all the false promises of this government
They will never get my vote after this shitshow

I absolutely agree with the above.

But, I would like to add he is also painfully out of touch.i really don't think he understands what life looks like for most of the population. He lives in a bubble.

GPTec1 · 04/01/2023 19:07

No one could seriously disagree with what Sunak wants but he has been in Govt for many years, his party for almost 13, it was all hot air.

He gave no time frames or any clue as to how he will achieve any of them..

He says they will get 7000 extra hospital beds, where? and who will staff them?

He wont even talk to staff to pause the strikes.

BradfordGirl · 04/01/2023 19:11

Anyone can promise anything. It means nothing without concrete plans.
He has no intention of doing any of this. It is just hot air. He has done nothing so far.

There was a timeframe question and he answered for each, I remember some eg inflation within the year etc
