Three supermarkets and not one of them had normal mince pies. They all had something dodgy added like icing, frangipani, marzipan, brandy butter or some other weirdness. I may write to my mp.

I can't find goose fat so I'm going to have to use sunflower oil on the roasties. Sad times.

Personally I find rapeseed oil is better for roasting if you have any.

foxlover47 · 23/12/2022 21:02

Oh god @red4321 I am so sorry to hear that , I hope they get some really nasty karma their way

TheChosenTwo · 23/12/2022 21:03

@Tickledpickle me too with the eggs! They lay one a day (give or take) when it’s warmer and sunnier, we’ve barely had any recently so I had to bite the bullet and buy some for Christmas. It made me very sad!

Mrsjayy · 23/12/2022 21:03

I couldn’t get British Brie, only French. DH doesn’t like French Brie.

My hens aren’t laying and there are no eggs anywhere.

Tesco didn’t have Cointreu for my Christmas cocktail.

The fresh cream yule log has an unsatisfactory date.

It’s basically a disaster 😭😉

There a fight in the supermarket over eggs today a box ended on the floor and 2 women were cursing each other 😲

RoseyLentil · 23/12/2022 21:05

I finished my Christmas food shopping yesterday. We are going to MIL for Christmas tea at 3:15pm - not a moment sooner mind. This has been arranged for months and she asked that I bring some nice ham which I have bought and it's in the fridge. Hubby has just said she wants now wants us to bring a whole bunch of other stuff like pavlova, cheese cake, sliced cheese, bananas with no spots on them etc. So now I have to go to the supermarket tomorrow when I was just going to chill all dayHmm

Mrsjayy · 23/12/2022 21:07

There was*

I left it too late to buy chocolate coins for my kids' stockings and now I can't find any.

Our Aldi and lidl had loads today

EVHead · 23/12/2022 21:07

I think I’ve bought too much wine.

LoveBluey · 23/12/2022 21:08

So much food piled up in the supermarket tonight, it was gross ... and so many people out there struggling. What happens to all the waste?

Sorry, inappropriate post but it triggered what's been on my mind

If you mean waste at the supermarket many of them have schemes to give away food at the end of they day - I use the Olio app which reduces food waste.

If you mean individual households buying too much I'm sure that does happen, I know we've bought more than we need but I'm very good at using things in order of date so it just means we'll still be working our way through the frozen Christmas nibbles come February. We won't actually waste much.

I showed this to DH who says that this would be a crime. Use the fat from whatever fowl or meat that you are roasting.

Nosecamera · 23/12/2022 21:08

My dishwasher has broken down. I have the time, transport, cash and skills to collect, buy and fit a new one in the morning, but I can't be bothered because I have slight cold. And I live somewhere that scrap metal is whisked off the curb side in minutes so no worry abhor to hot rid of the broken one. Woe is me.

I cannot find cauliflower cheese anywhere

Lidl freezer section!

wejammin · 23/12/2022 21:10

I couldn't find a sticky sparkly bow big enough for DC1s new bike so I'm going to have to fashion one out of wrapping paper.

Thank you! I think the burglars may be disappointed when they unwrap the two charity shop books and jigsaws (a bit embarrassing when the police officer insisted on including and pricing these in his itemised statement of losses). And the Amazon voucher I manage to cancel before they used it. I could do with some good karma now though...

I was also slightly gutted by the lack of Roses and Quality Street in Tesco - where have they all gone? Are they the pandemic loo roll equivalent?

Gunner1510 · 23/12/2022 21:16

@RJnomore1 Sainsburys, Tesco and Asda sell Monin syrups and they do a sugar syrup. Although it means braving the shops tomorrow!! I got mine from Sainsburys. I think there’s a gift set of mini syrups in different flavours but not sure if it has the sugar one in

SilverGlassHare · 23/12/2022 21:16

Absolutely everything is on track. Food all bought/delivered, house decorated, booze cracked open, house clean, presents bought delivered & wrapped, work finished for the year… and I’m just not feeling it this year.

Edinvillian · 23/12/2022 21:16

Asda substituted my champagne for cava 😂

petalpower · 23/12/2022 21:16

@Fivemoreminutes1 i did exactly the same with my homemade crackers!

theswoot · 23/12/2022 21:17

I haven’t been well enough to have any booze yet!

Gunner1510 · 23/12/2022 21:18

@red4321 That is awful, so sorry. I hope you can have some semblance of a nice weekend.
I remember once I had my car broken into and the embarrassment when I had to tell the call handler a backstreet boys CD had been stolen… it wasn’t even mine!! (Honest!)

clary · 23/12/2022 21:19

Lollypop701 · 23/12/2022 20:06

the fridge and freezer are full…. But I don’t have any thing for tea as it’s all Christmas food

This. So much this. DH: "What can I eat...?" Me: "nothing!"

Jinglecrunch · 23/12/2022 21:19

I can't be arsed to wrap presents tonight but know I will regret it tomorrow night when I have a marathon wrapping session to do just like every other year.
Still going to watch Netflix and then get an early ish night though

We (really I) have finished all the mince pies and all the quality street, still got loads of food, but nothing I fancy. But that's probably because I'm full.

Going to be a weird Christmas this year, I've got so in the habit of economising and being more minimal, it's actually been hard to buy gifts and treats to eat. I've got less appetite, for food and material goods, and even though I've been less excessive than other years (had to be!) it still feels frivolous. I don't want my kids to feel deprived of a proper Christmas though. But it does feel like a show for them this year.

AmyandPhilipfan · 23/12/2022 20:14

I left it too late to buy chocolate coins for my kids' stockings and now I can't find any.

I couldn't get coins in Wilko, Sainsbury's, Superdrug or Aldi. Making do with Aldi Chocolate Carrots instead.

minticecreamisjustok · 23/12/2022 21:26

No fresh parsnips in the supermarket but they had lots of swede on offer instead
🤮 not quite the same! I had to buy frozen parsnips! Not sure I want parsnips that badly to go to another supermarket.

Matilda1981 · 23/12/2022 21:28

Where I live we have a community larder and they collect short dated/out of date goods (meat, cheese etc) and distribute to the community. You can be members for £17.50 a month and you get so much food for that - the volunteers freeze everything they can! Fruit, veg and bread always loads longer than the use by date. It’s fantastic and they have sailed tonnes and tonnes a of food from going to landfill. Last week I got 4 huge Lindt advent calendars as well as my usual meat items, fruit, veg and bread!
