What's your Christmas first world problem?

Three supermarkets and not one of them had normal mince pies. They all had something dodgy added like icing, frangipani, marzipan, brandy butter or some other weirdness. I may write to my mp.

Bought lovely silver snowflake wrapping paper but I can’t use it, the silver foiling just flies everywhere and rubs off 😡

maddiemookins16mum · 23/12/2022 20:39

I had to buy ‘normal’ coleslaw instead of the ‘extra special’ version.

Christmas Eve buffet officially ruined.

Youcanlaugh · 23/12/2022 20:40

I’ve just realised that two packs of 16 little pigs in blankets is actually not many per person for 11 of us… searching for more pigs in blankets tomorrow.

red4321 · 23/12/2022 20:43

I was burgled last night and they took all our Christmas presents (even with our cctv and monitored burglar alarm).

Now arguably this isn't a first world problem but trying to be stoic, there were no tears and I dragged myself out on no sleep for the big food shop at 7am. First I was selected for a 30 item random service check at the Tesco self scan then couldn't get the 10% big shop voucher to scan on my clubcard app for 15 minutes. (Where's the karma?)

Yes, I burst into full-on weeping because I couldn't get my £20 discount. Not the stolen watches, jewellery, my Christmas presents and my ransacked bedroom. I'm still slightly mortified.

CointreauVersial · 23/12/2022 20:43

DD1 just made me a cranberry margarita, and now we've no fresh limes left.

Notonthestairs · 23/12/2022 20:43

@OffToThatPlace - 30 years ago (yes I'm old!) I was in a similar fix. Will be keeping fingers crossed for you.

CointreauVersial · 23/12/2022 20:44

Ohh, @red4321 that's truly, truly awful.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/12/2022 20:44

No cream crackers. I expect we’ll cope.

Notonthestairs · 23/12/2022 20:46

@red4321 - that's bloody awful. Hope Christmas picks up (and someone fixed that voucher for you).

Beesmakehoney · 23/12/2022 20:46

I can't find goose fat so I'm going to have to use sunflower oil on the roasties. Sad times.

HerRoyalNotness · 23/12/2022 20:46

We are just driving home after a few days skiing and will arrive Xmas eve with no food in the house for Xmas day. I did make sure to have some baileys and red wine stocked for when we got back though.

Bluevelvetsofa · 23/12/2022 20:47

Aldi have only had mini mince pies for several weeks. They had loads in October. I may have to make some.

grumpypug · 23/12/2022 20:48

I haven't been able to find any Baileys chocolate fingers and I really wanted some for tomorrow night once the kids have gone to bed

No fresh mint in the shops
waitrose cancelled my ginger sponge pudding and now it’s all I want but I can’t find one
where on earth does one buy sugar syrup for cocktails in a rush?

Dissolve 300g caster sugar in 150ml water over a low heat. Leave to cool and bottle for future use in cocktails. Store in the fridge

Mrsjayy · 23/12/2022 20:51

I bought Oat cakes but forgot the Pate so it's going to be dry dry oatcakes 😂

As long as it’s not “value” you’ll be reet.

Baconand · 23/12/2022 20:56

I couldn’t get British Brie, only French. DH doesn’t like French Brie.

My hens aren’t laying and there are no eggs anywhere.

Tesco didn’t have Cointreu for my Christmas cocktail.

The fresh cream yule log has an unsatisfactory date.

It’s basically a disaster 😭😉

Ah bloody hell, that’s terrible. Poor you! I hope you manage to get it sorted quickly

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/12/2022 20:57

little corner shops and petrol station shops ofte. Save the day with sold out stuff like this

Unicorn717 · 23/12/2022 20:57

I forgot to pick up one of the Christmas presents (it's reserved) so have to get up early tomorrow to collect and hope the queues aren't 10 miles long with everyone last minute buying in the shops.

Countmeout · 23/12/2022 20:58

Neverknowinglysensible · 23/12/2022 20:07

I only need 4 Christmas crackers so why do they have to come in packs of six?

I need 8. Lots of packs of 6. Eventually tracked down a pack of 10.

maddy68 · 23/12/2022 21:00

I live in Spain. And can't buy gravy or Christmas crackers

Unicorn717 · 23/12/2022 21:00

Also went to Tesco earlier and forgot to get pudding for Christmas Day!

AWaferThinMint · 23/12/2022 21:01

I forgot my Christmas port.
