Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 and 2.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Fees! Argh! You've reminded me I have to find the fees for daughter's dance class :( (luckily not as terrible as yours, @StephanieSuperpowers).

My entire sanity is resting on getting through to the council tax amnesty of Feb and March, although that's going to be completely inadequate.

StephanieSuperpowers · 11/01/2023 11:07

Oh yeah, I had music classes to pay for before Christmas too. It's never ending.

MavisMcMinty · 11/01/2023 11:15

Still, no more council tax to pay until April, that’s always nice. (Might be the same with water rates too, but ours are very low because we have a septic tank for sewage. One neighbour’s water supply is from a natural spring, so he pays no water rates at all, and that’s the place I’m gonna have to move into when the zombie invasion, super-flu pandemic or mass extinction event occurs.)

Kucinghitam · 11/01/2023 11:22

Oh yes, the new term's music lessons (x2 instruments, x2 DC). Argh.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 11/01/2023 11:26

Our rates (which include water) go out as 1 lump in May or June (ish - depends on whether we have an assembly to set the level or not).

I'm having IT nightmares this morning. There have been glitches since Xmas, so IT has told everyone to work from home if possible - fine for me, because I always do - but now the connection from home has gone screwy as well.

CyanCrystalViolet · 11/01/2023 12:02

Are you with bt @BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn? Mine has been screwy all morning.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 11/01/2023 12:18

Not BT, and the work IT dept thinks it's a problem at their end.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 11/01/2023 12:19

My Internet connection is fine - it's the work VPN and network that's buggered up.

BezMills · 11/01/2023 14:24

I took out a 14 months interest free tesco credit card as part of my moneysavingexpert plan. I pay the min amount and put the rest of the money due into a tesco account earning 2% plus I get whatever miniscule clubcard pointage too. Just as well, as my dentist bill is about 800 dollabucks. All on the CC so at least I can pay it up and earn 2% on it too
Fuck january tho!

Dotellhimpike · 11/01/2023 14:40

Fuck January indeed, just got my car tax reminder through, so that's car tax, MOT, new windscreen, moving costs, including van rental. I guess I'm kinda lucky in that once I get over this hump it ought to be plain sailing for a while (famous last words) and I'm not starving, sitting in a freezing house, or homeless. For the first time in my life I think I feel guilty at what I have compared to others, and I just have the basics really.

Tricyrtis2022 · 11/01/2023 14:49

It's my birthday today and I also say 'Fuck January'. It's dark, cold, windy and pouring with rain. No one's got any money, they're on diets and no one ever wants to do anything, or they're ill, or all of the above. Also I'm a twin, so still have to buy someone a present. T'ain't right. I think we should have an Official birthday, like the Queen did.

Britinme · 11/01/2023 14:50

Well as happy a birthday as possible to you and your twin, @Tricyrtis2022 Smile

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 11/01/2023 14:51

Happy birthday!

why not find yourself a name day and celebrate then?

Tricyrtis2022 · 11/01/2023 15:00

Thanks, both! We have discussed choosing a summer date but have never really got around to doing anything about it. Maybe this year we should do that.

CyanCrystalViolet · 11/01/2023 15:14

Happy birthday @Tricyrtis2022!

I left the flat in the sunshine but on my way home it turned to heavy rain. I got completely drenched through while it blasted at me in the strong winds. Just what you need after a rubbish smear. Now trying to warm up before I get back to losing my mind over data presentation. Paws attached.

Happy birthday Tric! Mines next month, shittest month of the year, but yeah, January isn't much better. My car tax arrived today too.

Tricyrtis2022 · 11/01/2023 15:35

Thank you! And happy birthday for next month, duc. Winter birthdays can be a bit crap, can't they.

Lovely paws! I wish we had fur, it would be great.

SinnerBoy · 11/01/2023 15:36

Happy Birthday from me, to!

SinnerBoy · 11/01/2023 15:37

We had an MOT advisory that a number plate light was out, so I went to my mate's this afternoon, he has all sorts of bulbs and stuff for cars. It turned out to be just dirty!

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/01/2023 15:40

January birthdays suck, I have one too.

SinnerBoy · 11/01/2023 16:32

Happy Ginday!

Kucinghitam · 11/01/2023 16:32

Happy birthday to you and your twin, @Tricyrtis2022!

(Loving the paws @CyanCrystalViolet)

Tricyrtis2022 · 11/01/2023 16:39

Thanks for the b.day greets. Happy birthday to all us winter babies.

It turned out to be just dirty!

That sounds just like us! There is moss growing on the car I drive.

Tricyrtis2022 · 11/01/2023 16:41

Twin should have been here today, as we usually celebrate together, but will now come next week. Looking forward to that.

SinnerBoy · 11/01/2023 17:05

The car's relatively clean, it was just some black grime. The mechanic probably just looked at the reflection on the bodywork, which is what my pal did, before looking under the trim and seeing a faint gleam....
