To mark a special birthday.

What would you buy?

OP posts:

A week long spa retreat😊

ThereIsATInWater · 17/12/2022 21:21

Top it up with savings and gave WLS.

lurkingfromhome · 17/12/2022 21:31

A piece of art. I’ve got my eye on one at the moment that’s £2.5k and desperately hoping for a Premium Bond win!

OooScotland · 18/12/2022 00:06

Another vote for diamond studs. Or a residential sewing retreat somewhere really fancy.

Scarlettpixie · 18/12/2022 08:34

I would buy a macbook pro.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 18/12/2022 09:24

Experience gives us more value than things unless that things affects daily life eg new sofa you sit on every day v handbag.

Right now for me I'd buy some personal trainer session's, the laser hair remover, and book a trip to Rome or somewhere....for two nights.

Depends on context as well.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 18/12/2022 09:29

I'd book a trip to Machu Picchu

TheOGCCL · 18/12/2022 09:58

Teeth straightening or laser hair removal

PeaceJoySleep · 18/12/2022 10:02

I'd get my bedroom done, walls prepped, painted, new skirting boards, probably not enough for a fitted wardrobes:-(

Heliumburgers · 18/12/2022 10:09

A new laptop and tablet. 😅 but you could get a very fancy laptop or tablet for quite a bit!

I don't disagree. But op specifically said "a thing" so I guess most interpreted that as an object.

Otherwise I agree, I would probably pick a holiday!

Can you get a full set of Turkish teeth plus flight and accommodation for 2k?

Better off spending more to be NEAR the dentist who carried out the work. It's definitely not that I think any less of Turkish dentists, I'm Irish not in the uk, but if something goes wrong afterwards, an infection or a veneer falling off or a crown not taking, you want to be able to get to the dentist the next day, not have to book flights and a hotel and pay extra fees and negotiate with the dentist who did the original work while you're in pain and worrying about taking more time off work. Like honey for hay fever when it comes to dentistry, Stay local

TwoMonthsOff · 18/12/2022 15:51

New cellular IPad Pro

PeaceJoySleep · 18/12/2022 15:51

I'm not a dentist btw, just heard some awful stories.

IHeartGeneHunt · 18/12/2022 15:56

A shed. A really lovely one with a cement base, shelves, fancy windows and insulation.
If there was anything left after that, a week all inclusive in Benidorm.

SockGoddess · 19/12/2022 07:36

Time off! I work to contracts so I would use 2K to spend a few weeks pottering, doing my own creative stuff and going to art galleries. Maybe a spa day (i know people hate them but I love them - facial, sauna, swim and fancy lunch)

speakout · 19/12/2022 07:44

SockGoddess that is a good point.
I am self employed too and having three weeks on no earnings thanks to Royal Mail.
2K is about the amount of my lost income.

ThreeRingCircus · 19/12/2022 08:22

Definitely teeth straightening/whitening.

SockGoddess · 19/12/2022 08:42

Oh so sorry to hear that speakout, that sucks. Hope things look up soon.

Mrcpy · 19/12/2022 08:44

I’d upgrade my iPad Pro, with keyboard and pencil. Mine is from 2017 and still working well, so I don’t strictly need an upgrade yet, but if someone’s giving me 2k…

ShaunaTheSheep · 19/12/2022 08:56

Round the world ticket (and travel insurance)

Wotrewelookinat · 19/12/2022 09:08

Gym membership. I just can’t justify the cost atm and all my exercise is ‘free’ ie walking/jogging outdoors. Would love membership of a naive gym with pool…

Pamalot · 21/05/2023 07:52

Well if he costs £2k then being hypnotised hy Paul McKenna but I expect it’s a lot more than that.

Always4Brenner · 21/05/2023 16:47

Fridge freezer £1200
then new bed duvets

Rubyupbeat · 21/05/2023 17:12

It would go halfway towards a sewing machine I am after.
