Is anyone awake? I’m expecting bad news and I can’t sleep

My dh is unwell and we have no idea what is wrong. We are getting scan results this morning but they were only to rule things out so probably not conclusive. However, I can’t see how this isn’t going to be something serious as he has declined so rapidly.

I feel sick. We’ve already lost most of his income through him being off work so I’m also worried sick about money. We have enough savings to manage another 2 months at the most.

My dc are already suffering, despite them
mot fully understanding how serious the symptoms are, as dh is pretty much housebound and I can’t physically drive them to all the clubs and places they need to go by myself.
I also work full time although thankfully I’m a teacher and break up this week.

My heart is broken just looking at him disappearing in front of me. The doctors are slow to take his symptoms seriously so sadly by the time he was sent to hospital he was already unable to work and very ill. It could of course be something very treatable but at the moment I feel suffocated with the fear of the worst case scenarios.
I am writing this as I’m lonely and scared and wondered if anyone is awake to say hello.

I have name changed in case anyone recognises me from this post. If you do, please don’t mention this as I am doing a great job of appearing strong on the outside.

I hope the news is helpful and you're able to go to the concert tonight.
On a practical note, the education support partnership has a helpline if you need to talk to someone while worrying about things. You can also apply for a grant to get you through financially on their website.

Your union is also worth contacting for help from their hardship funds.

Thinking of you and praying for good news x

CuriousMama · 13/12/2022 11:09

Am so sorry to hear about your worry.

I take it they've done lots of blood tests? Exdh lost a lot of weight and that was glandular fever.

Hoping you get some answers op, the waiting itself must be horrible. At least with results you know what it is you and dh are facing, and can get treatment started.
You are in my thoughts today.

Wishing you good news!
You sound to be doing an amazing job of being the strong parent and the strong spouse. Remember that the rule is to look after yourself too. When you need to lean - please do lean. Sharing is good. We humans need to be a community for many reasons.

In the summer, my DH suddenly lost 20lbs in less than 2 months without changing his diet or increasing his exercise. He also looked terrible, almost grey. He wasn't concerned, he said he felt well, completely in denial. I pushed for a doctor's appointment, and they organised blood tests followed by a PET scan and it turned out he had a treatable form of cancer. The tumour has been excised and he is on daily chemotherapy for life. He's still skinny but no longer losing weight, and looks well again. He has monthly scans and 2 weekly consultations (by phone) with the oncologist.

Hoping and praying you and your family get a similar, hopeful outcome.
Even a cancer diagnosis doesn't mean end of life these days.

shrinkingbee · 13/12/2022 12:10

Sending positive thoughts and well wishes for you and your family 💐

mumofbun · 13/12/2022 12:19

Hi OP, i hope you got some answers today.

I don't know if anyone else mentioned it but if you have life insurance it can cover loss of earnings due to illness. It might just relieve one of your stresses x
