Is anyone awake? I’m expecting bad news and I can’t sleep

My dh is unwell and we have no idea what is wrong. We are getting scan results this morning but they were only to rule things out so probably not conclusive. However, I can’t see how this isn’t going to be something serious as he has declined so rapidly.

I feel sick. We’ve already lost most of his income through him being off work so I’m also worried sick about money. We have enough savings to manage another 2 months at the most.

My dc are already suffering, despite them
mot fully understanding how serious the symptoms are, as dh is pretty much housebound and I can’t physically drive them to all the clubs and places they need to go by myself.
I also work full time although thankfully I’m a teacher and break up this week.

My heart is broken just looking at him disappearing in front of me. The doctors are slow to take his symptoms seriously so sadly by the time he was sent to hospital he was already unable to work and very ill. It could of course be something very treatable but at the moment I feel suffocated with the fear of the worst case scenarios.
I am writing this as I’m lonely and scared and wondered if anyone is awake to say hello.

I have name changed in case anyone recognises me from this post. If you do, please don’t mention this as I am doing a great job of appearing strong on the outside.

I do hope the funeral went as well as expected, a very sad moment for everyone.
Ion top of that it must be so trying for you not to be able to breathe properly doing the simplest of jobs. It’s good you have been able to get a doctor’s appointment, hopefully they will change your treatment and you will feel better soon and move about more easily.
Pleased to know DH is putting on weight even though there are still obvious problems, are there more outstanding tests to do?

Katekeeprunning · 26/04/2023 11:19

@MyCake i was wondering how you & your DH are?

h0rsewithn0name · 26/04/2023 18:31

Iwantanapnow · 27/04/2023 02:01

Probably best not to post until OP comes back as thread will be full

MyCake · 01/05/2023 11:15

Sorry I’ve not replied for a while. DH is phasing back to work and since they treated the gastritis and Candida he is so much better, mostly in that he has put on weight and is less weak and tired. He is still dizzy though but has a follow up appointment in about 6 weeks.
I will post a longer update later but I want to say thank you for being there during the most frightening few months.

Oh MyCake, I am so relieved to hear this. I hope he continues to bounce back, slowly but surely. I hope you're starting to feel better too - remember, this will have taken its toll on you as well as him to be kind to yourself.

momtoboys · 01/05/2023 14:50

Cake - so glad for the update. You have had such a tough go of it for months! Happy to hear your DH is better and able to return to some normalcy. I hope you are feeling better too!

aibutohavethisusername · 01/05/2023 15:26

Glad to hear your update.

OldFan · 01/05/2023 23:34

Yay glad things are gradually getting better.

That he's eating better is bound to help with the dizziness too probably.

MyCake · 02/05/2023 06:58

I do wonder whether the stress of his mum’s diagnosis was a significant factor.

Once he started losing weight due to the candida and gastritis, we think that actually made the neurological symptoms seem a lot worse as he was so dizzy and tired. He lost 2 stone and wasn’t very big to start with.

Things feel more hopeful now. He’s not back on a full wage yet but I’ve booked a few days away with him in the summer to stay with friends in France who
kindly told me to just book flights and they’d host us so we can get a cheap but proper break together.

We will hopefully be able to take the dc away too, albeit a cheap Airbnb somewhere in England and not to somewhere as exciting/expensive as the holiday we cancelled!

The dc seem ok but I know it’s been a worry for them, especially as MIL died and they have 2 other grandparents who are unwell. The older boys talk to each other and the younger dc talk to me so hopefully they are processing everything.

My own health has taken a knock but I’ve also applied for a new job which seems insane but I think the change will be good, even though it’s more senior. At the moment people see me as ‘ill’ and worry about me because they compare me to what I was like before. I think/hope in a new job they will hopefully see me as someone who has a disability/chronic illness that they manage effectively.

Thanks again everyone. MN can be so toxic and unkind at times but this thread has been absolutely wonderful 💕

Thank you for the up date. I am really happy for you. Good luck for the future.

spiderlight · 02/05/2023 10:03

Just a thought, @MyCake - if he's had gastritis, have they checked his copper levels? My DS is currently unwell with gastric issues and his copper has come back really low in his last lot of blood tests, and one of the signs of that is neurological symptoms. My GP was a bit baffled and has referred him for further investigations for malabsorption issues, but it's worth you/your DH checking on whether he's had this tested.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/07/2023 05:22

@MyCake It's been a while. I hope it's okay to ask how you, your children and your DH are?

MrsPositivity1 · 17/07/2023 23:05

Just wanted seeing how your husband was, and you too @MyCake

stayathomegardener · 18/07/2023 22:03
