It's 3am, why are you awake?

I was snoozing soundly when DS (5) came into my room coughing, sniffling and asking for a drink so I guess he's coming down with something. He's snoring beside me now but I'm wide awake.

So, why are the rest of you all up? Star

Sorry to everyone else stuck awake at this fkn when they should be asleep.

I'm having a recurring nightmare and feel like I can't bear to close my eyes as then it starts again:

And because (in the dream) whenever I open my eyes again the person from the dream is standing over me and it starts again.

If it's ok I thought I would try to ground myself by popping up on here and remembering this is real life.

Not the dream.

@6demandingchildren
I quite fancy either a fox red lab or a Hungarian vizla. Vizlas are more hard work from what I can gather. I used to have a collie years ago and never again but now I have a 4 year old and a husband to convince 😂.

I’m on a high dose of steroids due to a brain tumour. I’m lucky if I get an hour a nights sleep. I go to bed relatively early then ‘ping’ awake. I always hope it’s about 6am but it’s usually 3 am. Luckily I’m don’t feel tired for some reason.
I belong to a group called - 3am Cancer and me. There’s lots of us awake at 3 am x

I had gsd's as I child and didn't get my boy until I was in my 40's it took me a long time to find him. I'm currently hanging my leg out of the bed so he can feel my touch, the staffie is farting as usual.

Aw I've never known what that colour lab is called. I thought maybe Rust! They're absolutely gorgeous, just had a Google and now looking at puppy pictures which is helping my anxiety so thank you Flowers

Up with 5 month old (feeding) and 3 year old (poorly but on the mend! And I have some nasty cold and tummy bug. The shivering has stopped and the aches are going but on the loo every few hours!

demotedreally · 08/12/2022 05:23

I just heard a child wake up and I am wondering whether to go and put the heating on...
Brrrr

vinoandbrie · 08/12/2022 05:24

I didn’t sleep until past three and am awake again now. I have to get up for work soon. I am in a dark place and am grateful for this thread.

Babasghost · 08/12/2022 05:31

Hugs to everyone going through tough times.
Waves from bed in rural Ireland.
I'm awake to relive old traumas that I can do nothing to change!
But have stoked the fire and turned on the Xmas lights
Now I'm the filling in a dog snuggle sandwich and can't move and am to hot. But happy to have such love and warmth.
Strength and warmth to you ladies.

Sorry to hear this @vinoandbrie

Do you have anything nice planned to look forward to that you could tell us about?

Or anything you've done recently that was lovely?

I would LOVE either thing in your username right now!

vinoandbrie · 08/12/2022 05:36

Thank you for replying! On Saturday the Christmas tree is being delivered and we will decorate it. Last weekend I took DD to the trampoline park and she had a whale of a time.

My user name is the things I missed when I was pregnant 😂

mumda · 08/12/2022 05:44

It was 2am but am awake now too. Bathroom visit both times.
Heating was on and I was too hot but controller was off. Odd.
Light nervous sleep. Vaguely turning over thinking about the day ahead. Nothing stressful other than maybe a heating system which is acting independently of its controls.

shard5 · 08/12/2022 05:44

Have been up with migraine since 4and dd3 is sleeping next to me as she's not well.
I've figured that it's an ovulation migraine, the doc gave me cocodomol but it's not touching the pain. Head feels like it's going to split

Purplepepsi · 08/12/2022 05:48

My son woke me at 4 and I've not been able to get back to sleep since worrying about various things. Have come downstairs now so at least my husband can sleep! Problem with being up so long is I'm starving now !!!

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 08/12/2022 05:49

I was awake throughout the night. I never sleep during a full moon!

Ah that will be lovely this weekend to do the tree! Do you have a colour theme? Or classic decorators you use every year?

Trampoline park must have been so fun for your DD, I love seeing kids being completely carefree and enjoying stuff like that without any care in the world! Pure joy, it's the best.

Haha I'm TTC say the moment and have given up booze which I've surprisingly not missed as always loved a drink. Cheese will be my toughest thing but I'm at the stage where I would give up quite literally anything for it to happen for us!

Period is due on Sunday and I'm trying not to do a test until it's late. I have symptoms for the first time since starting TTC so any positive thoughts are welcome!

I'm nocturnal / introvert ....I enjoy the quiet time when I can. If it was up to me and I didn't live in a timed society I'd probabaly go to bed at around 4am and wake at mid dayish naturally

Almost identical to me and two of my brothers. Meanwhile the rest of our family are all 'normal'. My own sleep pattern tends to be 5/6am - 12/1pm.

We've all been diagnosed with DSPD (Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder) as our Circadian rhythms are out-of-whack and always have been.

I struggled for 40+years to maintain a career fighting against what, to me were, natural rhythms. People think it's retirement that's made me so much happier and so much less stressed. It's not retirement because I really enjoyed the work I did, just not during the hours required (9-5). For those decades I relied on five alarm clocks, my (ex)husband and, latterly, my partner to phone me to make sure I was awake in time to get work.

Being able to follow my own rhythm now is a wonderful freedom that only those struggling with DSPD could really appreciate.

Perhaps you could ask for this to be investigated via your local sleep clinic? Most GPs consider the condition to be 'insomnia' but sleep specialists can differentiate easily between that and sleep disorders.

There's no cure, but there is a movement towards having the disorder formally classified as a disability, which imo is correct.

Good luck!

Only just seen this. I’m on my third cuppa. We’ve got friends arriving for a long weekend. They’re coming from overseas with 3 children!! I don’t want to host them for 4 nights. They originally wanted to stay for a week!! I don’t even know how we’re going to feed so many people. There’s already 5 of us 😱

Izadrennan · 08/12/2022 06:22

Wish I'd seen this earlier, like at 3am!
I have anxiety but it gets worse coming up to Christmas, this year its got extra tinsel and flashing lights on it! Panic attacks are starting to creap back in over the last few nights, i could easily live without the insomnia and anxiety but do like the peace of middle of the night, i love quiet and stillness and I'm very introverted so being just me (and those awake on mumsnet!) is good, but not when I'm hauling my tired backside round for the day feeling awful! It's definitely not compatible for a mum of 5 anyway, kind thoughts to those who are having a difficult time

Lulu1919 · 08/12/2022 06:37

I was awake at 3am
Then couldn't get back to sleep was worrying about work stuff ,then Christmas presents, then I started scratching the skin in my hands..which then bled ...I got up.
Sitting on sofa now in a blanket willing myself to get enough strength to turn up to work !!

Deathraystare · 08/12/2022 07:34

I am regularly awake at that time. Thanks to living on the Heathrow flight path! I have to get up to deal with an old lady bladder!

Can you try an air purifier?

I just bought one due to snoring child and have just noticed that they've not done it since it's been on and they're sleeping with their mouth closed.

I've got an air purifier, I'm just used to it now. I got back to sleep anyway.

ds decided to cook a bacon sandwich at 3am and is somehow skilled at stinking the entire house out no matter what he cooks. This is an issue of contention normally, thankfully the bacon smell is on the more pleasant side. But the smell woke me. My subluxed joints are playing up and sore so sleep was hard won in the first place and now i feel hungry but don't have the energy or bread to go make myself a bacon sandwich. Obviously ds is now fast asleep and cant be asked to make it for me.

My house still smells of steak DH cooked 2 days ago Confused

@Blocked @HillsBesideTheSea Price’s Candles are good. There’s a Cooks one and a Fresh Air one and they’re both great at zapping cooking smells. Recently discovered after knocking down walls and not wanting to smell cooking when watching tv 😆

I’ve got a fox red lab so I am highly biased but she’s the best dog in the world! Never had a dog before but she’s so good! So easy to train and very, very well behaved except for a sock fetish… but I can cope with destroyed socks because she’s not destroying anything else.
