It's 3am, why are you awake?

I was snoozing soundly when DS (5) came into my room coughing, sniffling and asking for a drink so I guess he's coming down with something. He's snoring beside me now but I'm wide awake.

So, why are the rest of you all up? Star

Up an hour, my Mum's care home messed up her medication she had a rough week.

This had led to me awake dwelling on and another layer of minuscule of stuff up worth about 🙄

Itsokay2020 · 08/12/2022 04:26

I can’t stop coughing… day 3 and counting. My throat is red raw and i have decided sleep is overrated anyway. Currently sat on the sofa, Christmas lights on and watching Couples Come Dine with Me. Wishing everyone well - I hate this time of year for illness, particularly in my immunosuppressed state 😔

Gh12345 · 08/12/2022 04:27

Husband coughing all night and refusing to go to doctors for this chest infection

mamabear715 · 08/12/2022 04:27

So sorry for those of you who are bereaved / ill. Hugs..
I was watching Location 8-9pm, then 10 mins of the Dodi prog & fell asleep sat on the sofa. Woke up due to cold legs at 3am!
Been outside & had a decaff & a ciggie with a robin keeping me company. :-)

RedToothBrush · 08/12/2022 04:28

I've had months of not being able to sleep properly.

Then I've had two weeks of mad dreams. Nightmares. Mainly anxiety dreams.

Tonight's was Dr Who like and not being able to see everyone in the room or know who were the baddies.

Then DS came in for cuddles which he hasn't in ages.

Then I couldn't get back to sleep. And I started wondering how cold it is because DS had stripped off his top in the night.

Turns out it currently - 6 which is colder than forecast. And I'm now wide awake. And stressing about my plants which I didn't take cuttings of like I should have to protect them for the winter. I got complacent from last year being so mild.

Now I want to sleep and can't.

iratepirate · 08/12/2022 04:31

Pregnancy insomnia here too.
I’ve given up on trying to sleep and am getting some emails scheduled for work to send later this morning.

@6demandingchildren, sorry to hear about the dog. Vet call?

We took him to the vet last week and been to a follow up yesterday as we are waiting to travel to see a specialist as our very diagnosed cancer, he is only 8 and the best dog ever

It's 3am, why are you awake?
vixencomet · 08/12/2022 04:43

Both of my DDs 9 year old and 6 year old woke up in the middle of the night and now I can’t get back to sleep! 😩

aziza21 · 08/12/2022 04:43

Menopause, always wake up at silly O'clock. Enjoying the peace and quiet though until the madness of the day starts.

Pregnantthenfkd · 08/12/2022 04:46

Sat in hospital bed in the children's ward, 6 week old DS2 has caught a horrible virus off DD1 and now he needs at least 2 days of iv fluids and antibiotics.

No idea how I'm meant to get any sleep at all when he needs holding 24/7, is breast fed and I live 40+ minutes away. Think a family member is going to have to come hold him sitting on the foot of the bed while I try and sleep!

KaftanKate · 08/12/2022 04:47

@6demandingchildren Oh, what a handsome boy. Good luck with the specialist.

Deciding whether to get a dog or not!!

HolidayHappy123 · 08/12/2022 04:48

Someone just tried to steal my car. Fortunately I'd forgotten to put my phone on silent so a call from the tracking centre woke me up and I disturbed the thieves when I turned the house lights on. Amazing police response: three vehicles full of officers arrived within minutes really keen to catch the local car stealing gang but they were well gone.

Loads of damage to my car: they cut a hole in the boot to get to the electrics and they cut through the steering wheel to get the lock off.

Sammy900 · 08/12/2022 04:53

I'm nocturnal / introvert ....I enjoy the quiet time when I can. If it was up to me and I didn't live in a timed society I'd probabaly go to bed at around 4am and wake at mid dayish naturally

halfthesun · 08/12/2022 04:54

Ofsted are visiting ...

KaftanKate · 08/12/2022 04:55

@Pregnantthenfkd, poor little chap. Glad he's making progress. Hope you do manage to get back-up and some rest.

BeingHappy · 08/12/2022 04:55

I'm pregnant with my first DC and I woke up feeling overheated despite window being open and it being -3 outside. DH snoring away happily. Pregnancy is the single most uncomfortable thing I've ever done in my entire life 😩

ClaryFairchild · 08/12/2022 04:55

In Australia and it's afternoon so definitely should be awake!!

Sammy900 · 08/12/2022 04:56

I read that as offred (too much handmaids tale)

Omg that's terrible! Hope you're ok! What part of the world/UK are you in?

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 08/12/2022 04:58

Pains in my stomach. Stomach bug I think.

Deciding whether to get a dog or not!!

What dog are you thinking of getting?
We have had all sorts we have had black and chocolate Labradors and they are so laid back and will do anything for food. Our last lab died 3 years ago and she was 15, we also had a golden retriever he was 9 when we got him and the vet didn't think he would last long but he gave the vet a run for his money and lived until he was 16.
We only have 3 dogs now our 8 year old German Shepard and the only dog we have had from a puppy, a mad chihuahua who the vet thinks is over 10 and our staffie who is probably 14 or older and she is now blind but doing amazingly well and she actually giggles when being tickled and I have to record it as it's so funny. We also have 3 cats it was 4 but we lost one earlier in the year, we have the mother cat who is 12 and her 2 sons (her daughter was the one who died).
We are thinking of getting our son a ferret as he hasn't got over the cats death as she hardly ever left his side.

ds decided to cook a bacon sandwich at 3am and is somehow skilled at stinking the entire house out no matter what he cooks. This is an issue of contention normally, thankfully the bacon smell is on the more pleasant side. But the smell woke me. My subluxed joints are playing up and sore so sleep was hard won in the first place and now i feel hungry but don't have the energy or bread to go make myself a bacon sandwich. Obviously ds is now fast asleep and cant be asked to make it for me.

6demandingchildren · 08/12/2022 05:04

I love the smell of bacon, it should be illegal to wake up to that smell and not actually be offered one.
I lost my smell a year ago thanks to covid.

BeingHappy · 08/12/2022 05:06

Sigh. DH is so polite and adorable in his sleep. I just grumpily said STOP SNORING and he sleepily replied 'pardon, what did you say sweetie' 😭 pregnancy has also made me unbelievably moody.
