School boy won't let people sit down

Hospital2022 · 05/12/2022 17:49

Every day after school we see the same boy on the bus. He sits on a double seat and refuses to let people sit next to him he puts his leg there so no one can sit there. Several times people have wanted to sit. He won't move for anyone. Such as small children who can't balance . Elderly people. Adults have told him of on several occasions telling him to let the old lady sit down . Today he sat on the back seats. The ones where there are 5/6 seats all next to each other. He had his bag on one seat. He was sitting on the one next to it, then had his leg on the other so was taking up 3 seats . An old man asked him to move over so he can sit down . The boy refused to move several times the man asked and the boy kept refusing. The man then said im 74 years old and you won't even let me sit down you have no manners. He was a frail man. He was able to get a seat in the end. But this has been going on for a few weeks now and the boy is doing it everyday. I know what school he has to but I don't know his name or anything like that. So I can't complain to the school bas thete are over 1000 pupils in the school.

We are talking a London bus at school going home time so it's very busy.

It sounds petty when I write it but he is causing upset abd stress towards passengers.

Any suggestions ?

Don't just take a photo - film him. That way, you can capture the audio of you asking him to move his bag and his leg and his response (even if the response is to ignore you).

As an older child, getting free travel, I'd say he shouldn't actually be occupying any seats if there are paying adults or vulnerable little kids needing them.

Gosh don't let @kanaloa see you suggest that! They'll have you sectioned!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/12/2022 19:13

Are there other children nearby on the bus? If not, can you get an app for that mosquito thing that they sometimes use to stop youngsters from hanging around outside shop doorways, but which adults usually can't hear - and just discreetly set it going on your phone in your bag/pocket?

The bus drivers do not normally get involved with stuff like this.. there are other teens on the bus. But they don't get involved and are not with him.

I wish I could take a photo as it would be much easier. But i don't think I'm allowed to do that ..

As for sitting on him. I don't want to kill him 🤣

I thought that it would still have something to do with the school as he's travelling from school in school uniform? Although I'm not sure howvthat would be done if I can't say who he is.

Of course you can take a photo. He knows he's in the wrong and a bus is a space shared by members of the public. The police can come and give me a talking to if they feel so inclined. I'm bolshy like that though (and old).

Please don't take a picture of a child, however much of an idiot he is being.

Inform the driver. Every time he refuses to move. Then inform the school.
Then to be honest I would probably just start sitting down. Ask him politely but loudly (so the rest of the passengers can hear) twice to move his leg, then give him the warning that you need to sit immediately as you feel faint and then sit down. You won't sit with enough force to break his leg and you are entitled to a seat just as much as him. If you don't want to sit on him/his bag then put your own heavy bag on him instead.

Well firstly it’s weird to be taking photos of kids you don’t know on the bus. And secondly it will make absolutely no difference. He’ll say ‘yes that’s me in the photo. No I wasn’t asked to move my things.’

It’s not illegal to put a bag on a seat so what do you imagine a photo will show?

Don't be silly, it's not weird at all to take a photo of a child you're reporting when there are hundreds of children in the school.

What most of us 'imagine' a photo will show will be the child's face, so the school know whose parents to call in.

Have I upset you on another thread? Why is it me you're responding to when you could literally read the thread and see the many many reasons why its been offered as a solution.

I'll leave it here. Let you simmer back down again. Have some calm thoughts

Oh, please don’t imply I’m crazy or reacting in an aggressive way to try to gaslight your way out of a normal debate. I’m responding in a perfectly measured way - I’m completely calm. I just disagree with you. I don’t need to simmer down because I’m in a calm frame of mind. I’m just pointing out why photographing a teen you don’t know (although have apparently been watching for some time) is not a better option than contacting the driver or bus company about issues in their bus.

I'm not sure if that's against the law? Also I'm not sure what it might trigger. Which could cause further upset to people bon the bus children ect.

It's not against the law. You can take photos in public without anyone's consent.

But it's perfectly fine to sit on his body parts? 😂

Yes, probably Grin

It's perfectly legal to photograph or film anybody in public, though. I think the worry people have is that they may be suspected/accused of being a paedophile, but on a packed bus with lots of other witnesses - as well as the audio clearly telling the situation - no accusations of pervery would ever wash.

They won’t. And if they do he’ll just say ‘that isn’t what happened, I just put my bag on, I didn’t know anyone wanted to sit there.’

Wiluli · 05/12/2022 19:16

Personally I would put the bag in the floor and if he gets shity call the police . That sort of atitude will get him in trouble sooner or later . I bet he is the local bully

BobbyBobbyBobby · 05/12/2022 19:17

Embarrass the fucker.

louy announce to everyone in a caring voice. “I’m friends with his mum and he has a bladder and bowel problem which means he often wets and soils himself, please don’t get annoyed if he won’t let you sit next to him’.

Steely glare directly into his face and again speak very loudly, ‘Have you got enough sanitary towels and wet wipes on you?’

BobbyBobbyBobby · 05/12/2022 19:17

Loudly

What an absolutely bizarre response, in addition to your weird gaslighting about how I need to ‘calm down.’ I didn’t suggest anyone being sectioned. I suggested contacting the driver and bus company rather than trying to take photos of kids on the bus who you don’t know.

I've lived in London for 53 years and I can tell you it very much does work like that.

I seriously can't imagine this happening repeatedly without a row kicking off and the driver being alerted either.

All very strange.

Tis indeed.

Not one person on the bus would stand up for the elderly man? No one said "take my seat" and then dealt with the lad themselves?

You watched, was disgusted but did nothing?

fretaway · 05/12/2022 19:18

OP definitely speak to the school.
Even if you don’t have a photo, you have a rough idea of what age he is and description. When I complained to the headteacher about the behaviour of some boys from a local school, I was invited to come in and look at the photos they have on file to identify the culprits. If they are on it they will also mention in an assembly as it does reflect on the school’s reputation.

FearofQueefing · 05/12/2022 19:19

I'd take a picture of him. Send it to the school along with the bus route and bus number. Mention it's a regular occurrence. Someone at the school will recognise him...

Georgyporky · 05/12/2022 18:17

I once went to sit on a bag that a woman refused to move. She screamed "there's eggs in there".
Too late. Luckily, the bag was plastic & didn't leak onto my clothes.
Bet she never did that again.

😆😆 brilliant! I hate when people think their bags deserve a seat on a packed bus or train, so rude.

No advice OP, I reckon he'll be rude to the wrong person one day and get his comeuppance though. Hopefully you'll be on the bus to witness it 😉

Gaslighting 🤣 ok then. Have a little read of your last response to me and see if it was warranted.

In my experience the bus driver won’t give a shiny shite.

Yes actually, most schools are pretty hot on antisocial behiour when wearing uniform.

I actually don't know any schools in my are of London that aren't.

It doesn't matter if he denies it, the school will look into it.

Have a read of some of yours. You still haven’t managed to answer my actual point, which was why is trying to deal with it by taking photos of kids on the bus a better option than approaching the driver or bus company (who will actually have policies in place to deal with this).

Blueblell · 05/12/2022 19:20

The school should pull him up for not letting an elderly passenger sit down on a spare seat he had his feet or bag on. However I think the driver should be notified- I know they don’t get too involved but they could tell him when he gets on next time that he is only to take up one seat.

BittenontheBum · 05/12/2022 19:22

Good luck with the school. Where I am if it happens even just outside of the school boundaries they don't give a shit. Shocking but true 😕
I am also someone who on a good day would be suggesting he moved his bag. If he didn't I may chuck it out of the door next time it opened.....
