School boy won't let people sit down

Every day after school we see the same boy on the bus. He sits on a double seat and refuses to let people sit next to him he puts his leg there so no one can sit there. Several times people have wanted to sit. He won't move for anyone. Such as small children who can't balance . Elderly people. Adults have told him of on several occasions telling him to let the old lady sit down . Today he sat on the back seats. The ones where there are 5/6 seats all next to each other. He had his bag on one seat. He was sitting on the one next to it, then had his leg on the other so was taking up 3 seats . An old man asked him to move over so he can sit down . The boy refused to move several times the man asked and the boy kept refusing. The man then said im 74 years old and you won't even let me sit down you have no manners. He was a frail man. He was able to get a seat in the end. But this has been going on for a few weeks now and the boy is doing it everyday. I know what school he has to but I don't know his name or anything like that. So I can't complain to the school bas thete are over 1000 pupils in the school.

We are talking a London bus at school going home time so it's very busy.

It sounds petty when I write it but he is causing upset abd stress towards passengers.

Any suggestions ?

I'd either sit on the bag or pick it up and dump it on the floor.

Kanaloa · 05/12/2022 18:15

Do you really need suggestions when there’s an extremely obvious course of action here? Go to the front and say ‘excuse me driver, there is a passenger taking up three seats and it isn’t safe to move off because this elderly person/small child needs a seat.’

Brandymakesmerandy · 05/12/2022 18:16

I'd just sit on him 🤷‍♀️

Just tell the bus driver.

Georgyporky · 05/12/2022 18:17

I once went to sit on a bag that a woman refused to move. She screamed "there's eggs in there".
Too late. Luckily, the bag was plastic & didn't leak onto my clothes.
Bet she never did that again.

ilovepixie · 05/12/2022 18:17

I'd just move his bag and sit down!

I'm not sure if that's against the law? Also I'm not sure what it might trigger. Which could cause further upset to people bon the bus children ect.

I would make him and the driver aware of what I was doing. It's in a public place no not against the law as far as I know. Plus he's being a twat !

Hospital2022 · 05/12/2022 18:18

The bus drivers do not normally get involved with stuff like this.. there are other teens on the bus. But they don't get involved and are not with him.

I wish I could take a photo as it would be much easier. But i don't think I'm allowed to do that ..

As for sitting on him. I don't want to kill him 🤣

I thought that it would still have something to do with the school as he's travelling from school in school uniform? Although I'm not sure howvthat would be done if I can't say who he is.

You just know sooner or later he’s going to be taught a very valuable and unforgettable life lesson.

Kanaloa · 05/12/2022 18:20

So you have informed the bus driver that there is a passenger sitting across three seats while an elderly person stands unsafely? And they did nothing?

If so then I would report them to the company, as they’re not able to keep people safe and it’s obviously happening regularly and bothering you quite a bit.

CharlotteFlax · 05/12/2022 18:20

Yes you are "allowed" to take a photo in a public place.

And even if it isn't the "done thing", school isn't going to disregard everything you say purely on the basis that you took a photo of a kid in order for them to identify him

TellMeWhere · 05/12/2022 18:21

I'd dash his bag on the floor and sit down. But I'm confrontational and have no patience for gobshite teens.

Someone needs to be bold. You can try talking to the driver also, but not sure how proactive they'll be.

If bag dashing doesn't work then yeah I'd film or photograph him and contact his school. It's not illegal. It's a public place.

I highly doubt he's secretly watching porn or completely unstable. He's just being a prick.

You're asking for suggestions but are rejecting everyone's feedback, so I'm not sure what you're hoping for?

It really does not work like that on London buses. Especially at very busy times .

The kids a prick but it’s also disappointing an elderly man had to go to the back of a bus before getting a seat unless the bus was completely filled with others who required one over him

I thought that too. I’d stand for an elderly man in a heartbeat. Shame on everyone else who was sat there.

StrongerThongs · 05/12/2022 18:22

It is not illegal to take someone's photo in a public place. Even if that person is a child.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/12/2022 18:22

It is worrying how in this day and age we put up with such shit from others , the fear of their reaction puts people off and the worry that they might be violent or arguementative or pull a blade .

Back in my day , his bag would've been unceramoniously dumped on the flooe and his leg swept off the seat .
With a Have you got something wrong with your leg ?

"No"
Do you want there to be something wrong with your leg ?

DuplicateUserName · 05/12/2022 18:23

Yes the bus drivers can get involved if they want to, so it's always worth telling them.

You can take a photo of anyone in a public place, so do that and show the school if the driver doesn't get involved.

It certainly can work like that. I've sat on tubes that drivers have kicked people off, buses that have had their engines turned off until something is resolved and have also seen an adult man physically remove a dick head teen from a bus - he picked him up by the rucksack and put him out the door 😂

WrongLife · 05/12/2022 18:24

I'm pretty sure London Zip cards can be removed from kids who misbehave. That would mean he gets no free travel. If the school can identify him, TfL can cancel his card

I've lived in London for 53 years and I can tell you it very much does work like that.

I seriously can't imagine this happening repeatedly without a row kicking off and the driver being alerted either.

All very strange.

They can.

Plus, the driver (possibly with the help of passengers) would normally escort him off the bus, or call the police if he was really stubborn.

Boomboom22 · 05/12/2022 18:27

A. London buses certainly do work like that if you say something to the driver.
B. You can say something yourself. Or move the bag to the floor.
C. Of course you are allowed to take a photo in a public place! The school will be happy to bollocking him.

Are you this passive all the time?

pinneddownbytabbies · 05/12/2022 18:27

Tell the school. Say which bus and at what time he gets on it, and where he gets off (if you know that bit of course). Also explain that he is being deliberately awkward and refusing to let other people sit down.

If it were me, then I'd tell him if he doesn't move his leg I'll sit on it. And I would carry out that threat.

FleasNavidad · 05/12/2022 18:27

"could just be watching porn and doesn't want anyone to see"

Oh well that's alright then 🤣 wtf?

OP of course you can take a photograph of him and send it to his school.

Danikm151 · 05/12/2022 18:28

Tfl can obtain cctv and share it with the school. Then a police liaison can go and speak to the school/class.
it’s part of what safer travel does in the West Midlands when there’s antisocial behaviour so I’m sure it’s not beyond the scope of tfl
