School boy won't let people sit down

Every day after school we see the same boy on the bus. He sits on a double seat and refuses to let people sit next to him he puts his leg there so no one can sit there. Several times people have wanted to sit. He won't move for anyone. Such as small children who can't balance . Elderly people. Adults have told him of on several occasions telling him to let the old lady sit down . Today he sat on the back seats. The ones where there are 5/6 seats all next to each other. He had his bag on one seat. He was sitting on the one next to it, then had his leg on the other so was taking up 3 seats . An old man asked him to move over so he can sit down . The boy refused to move several times the man asked and the boy kept refusing. The man then said im 74 years old and you won't even let me sit down you have no manners. He was a frail man. He was able to get a seat in the end. But this has been going on for a few weeks now and the boy is doing it everyday. I know what school he has to but I don't know his name or anything like that. So I can't complain to the school bas thete are over 1000 pupils in the school.

We are talking a London bus at school going home time so it's very busy.

It sounds petty when I write it but he is causing upset abd stress towards passengers.

Any suggestions ?

Bloody iPhone 'possibly' not piss.. that's too extreme for this situation Smile

FleasNavidad · 05/12/2022 19:02

"Do not take a photo of him."

🤣🤣 why?

Wheredoallthepensgo · 05/12/2022 19:02

I'd pick up his bag and ram it so hard into his nuts that his offending leg retracts back up to his earhole, the wee shite.

But I'm Scottish and we don't stand for crap like that. I'd like to see him try that on a Govan bus. Grin he'd be oot the back window head first.

It is legal to take a photograph, equally schools usually have printouts of all the photos so if a member of public reports something they can ID them at the school using that, if he is doing this in their uniform he is bringing the school into disrepute. Saying that I’d just push his bag onto the floor and sit down.

i used to take a very busy bus to work . On several occasions I noticed a young woman who sat on the window seat with her handbag on the seat beside her . She flatly refused to move the bag . One day the bus was extremely busy, a couple of people were standing but the handbag had its seat . No way was a I standing when a bloody handbag had a seat so I politely asked her to move it . She refused so I sat on it . She went mental , the other passengers laughed . I never saw her again .

The bus driver can do something, when my Asd son was being thumped on a London bus by a gang of kids from another school. The driver stopped at his stop, let him off and shut the doors on the thugs and drive them to the next bus stop. We had been complaining for ages to the school with no result. I don't know what the driver said at the depot but the next day a manager from the bus depot visited the school and they were told that as of that day, if it wasn't stopped they would refuse to let any pupils from that school on the buses.
Funnily enough the ringleader was identified that day and dealt with

Do not take a photo of him.

If someone wants to sit down and he says no it’s really important that people support the person so they don’t feel so alone.

I would absolutely contact the school and say the bus number and a description of him and his bag and anything else identifying like shoes if they are a certain brand.

Be much easier with a photo. Why no photo?

It really does not work like that on London buses. Especially at very busy times .

So you have in fact gone to the driver and been told it ‘does not work like that?’ If so then complain publicly. If not then you’re missing the obvious course of action.

BeanieTeen · 05/12/2022 19:04

He may have a problem with his personal space and be unable to tolerate anyone else next to him

He may, he may, he may… you know there’s nothing generous or kind about giving people like him the benefit of the doubt when it’s at the cost of countless others, include elderly people who genuinely can’t physically stand up safely on a moving bus. You get no bonus points in heaven for this sort of misplaced sanctimony. I’m sure even Jesus would expect this little shit to budge over.

I’d sit on his bag. Or his leg. 🤷‍♀️

Me too.

I got on the bus at the weekend and there was a woman and her daughter taking up a double seat, which is all well and good. But they'd put their bags on the seats in front. I asked them to move them, and they ignored me. I picked the bags up and handed them to them and sat down.

Blueblell · 05/12/2022 19:05

I agree with you about the photo but you can’t tell the school and tell them the bus route/number and a description of the boy. My sons school do tell kids off if a member of the public complains about their behaviour on the way home when they are in uniform so I think the school could tackle this.

Well firstly it’s weird to be taking photos of kids you don’t know on the bus. And secondly it will make absolutely no difference. He’ll say ‘yes that’s me in the photo. No I wasn’t asked to move my things.’

It’s not illegal to put a bag on a seat so what do you imagine a photo will show?

Blueblell · 05/12/2022 19:05

*can tell the school

I just looked this up. You are permitted to take photographs in public places. A bus counts as a public place.
“Public place” includes any highway and any other premises or place to which at the material time the public have or are permitted to have access, whether on payment or otherwise ”.

It isn't weird at all. Why is it weird? He's being a little twat. Others would back that story. I'm assuming the pic would show him legs up etc. It would be weird if op just started randomly snapping teens doing nothing wrong. Even then, she'd be doing nout wrong

Notjustabrunette · 05/12/2022 19:07

There were some girls on my bus route in London who did this. I spoke to the school, and although they couldn’t be identified the school must of had a general discussion in assembly or something as they stopped. Obviously lots of assumptions here, but they did stop so I’m guessing something was done about.

I'd give him a big smile and a 'shove over, love', move his bag and sit down. I'm a Northern cliche, me. 😊

I'm southern and I would do the same. I dread to think what kind of adult he will become.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/12/2022 19:08

Don't just take a photo - film him. That way, you can capture the audio of you asking him to move his bag and his leg and his response (even if the response is to ignore you).

As an older child, getting free travel, I'd say he shouldn't actually be occupying any seats if there are paying adults or vulnerable little kids needing them.

CatsFreakingMeOut · 05/12/2022 19:08

A woman tried to do that to me on the bus once.
I'm on the larger side so I just said "excuse me" and sat down
She moved her bag then.....

ColdHandsHotHead · 05/12/2022 19:09

I once saw a lady deal with this sort of behaviour very effectively. I was in Germany and two schoolboys of about 8 or 9 had got on the bus, sat on a double seat and put their bags on the facing seat opposite them. There was loads of people standing. The lady didn't bother asking the lads to move their bags, she just tipped them on to the floor and sat down in the middle of the seat. I felt like applauding.

So I suggest you sling this individual's bag on the floor, as a start.

Why is it weird to barge into a situation you’re not involved in and start trying to photograph an unrelated child as a first option before you’ve even considered contacting the driver and complaining to the company? If you can’t figure out why that’s an odd course of action I can’t help you.

And I don’t know how the photo would show him ‘legs up’ because as far as I’m aware that’s not the problem. He puts his bag on the seat. The only thing he’d have to say is ‘yes I had my bag on the seat but the driver didn’t say anything so I thought it was ok. I put it there so the weird adult taking photos of me who I’ve never spoken to didn’t sit next to me.’

MarvelMrs · 05/12/2022 19:10

Make a note of the bus license plate and time at a certain bus stop. Then give that info to the school so they can contact the bus company and see if the teaching staff are allowed to identify him so that can
deal with the situation and address it with his parents.

Summerfun54321 · 05/12/2022 19:10

All you can do is tell the school that one of their pupils is being consistently disrespectful to passengers. Do nothing other than that or risk getting stabbed. There’s no way I’d confront a gob shite like that on a London bus.

Have I upset you on another thread? Why is it me you're responding to when you could literally read the thread and see the many many reasons why its been offered as a solution.

I'll leave it here. Let you simmer back down again. Have some calm thoughts

Here in Liverpool he would be launched down the bus,his feet wouldn’t touch the ground, cheeky little shit.
