Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

I have been cast-out-and-shunned twice this weekend - I was (until yesterday) a member of the Women's Equality Party. It was their conference this past weekend, online; all of about 180 people could be arsed to turn up.

In 2018 conference passed a motion not to declare TWAW but instead to refer it for a membership-wide consultation. That never happened, and this year the motion was brought back to conference (and this time passed).

The group of dissident women I have been part of (it's a very odd idea that the Women's Equality Party should have an unofficial Women's Caucus, but we did) did actually try to engage with the conference agenda. We proposed and spoke on (unrelated) motions on constitutional matters, for example.

It turned out, we could have submitted a motion that said "votes for women", and it would have been voted down. Because we had been designated as scum. Nobody (much) even bothered to look at what we said, because we are scum.

So I am probably less surprised than perhaps some others are by what is going Over There (some honourable exceptions of course noted). Because it has happened to me twice this weekend not just once.

I imagine that I am angrier than I am sounding but for now I'm at the point of fucking expecting it, so.

Evening all, The poster previously known as Tagyourit here. Good to see many of the finest posters from the old place here. As noted on the other exile's MN thread I'm still lurking on the old site but that's out of morbid curiosity as to how it all pans out.

mach2 · 28/11/2022 21:59

I'm quite rubbish at understanding things when they happen. Stuff tends to come to me later and it now strikes me as strange the way that the site owner went about things.

Since it was his site all he had to do do was to cancel the accounts of those who he judged to be offending and announce it pour encourager les autres, followed by a ban on GC perspectives. Instead he delegated the task to the membership at large, or else.

Perhaps he was uncertain on how well a purge and censorship would be received by the membership at large. Therefore he needed the membership to be complicit in hounding out the gender critical. The threat to shut the site was a tactic of inducement by shock - it certainly threw me for a bit and I dreaded the potential loss of something that became part of my life.

But who can be happy with "I want you to drive these people out"? I have crossed swords down the years with several of those who have decamped to this place but none of you deserved that sort of treatment.

TassLeHoff · 28/11/2022 21:59

Hi Tag. It's been a depressing few days.

murasaki · 28/11/2022 22:05

The whole 'it was your responsibility to drive the bigots out' thing was.....interesting. Weak, but interesting. Mobilising an army really didn't work when we left of our own accord and they didn't mobilise until.afterwards. I feel JtS will not be satisfied with how it's played out so far.

Good, the massive misogynistic git.

Sorry, I'm mad on several fronts this evening as said above, but this is at least raising a wry smile amid the general sadness.

Hi Tag. It's been a depressing few days.

It has, it's also been enraging. I posted the following over there (i've edited for language and usernames not sure yet of the rules over here) and it was a collective shrug, Popstar made an excellent post on the Lifeboat thread and got pretty much the same reaction, there's a lot of denial going on I think.

"I started off thinking "bit harsh but his gaff his rules" but seeing how that affected some brilliant posters forcing them off the site and then the unseemly gloating by the usual suspects has just made me angry about it all. The conflation of right wing authoritarianism to women defending hard fought for and already inadequate protections was shameful.

The other thing that grips my sh*t is the assumption that any bad actors on that thead were right wing, JTT has it's fair share of awful left wingers; it wasn't a right wing poster who told a female poster she "needed a good hard shag" and it wasn't a right wing poster who called a Jewish women a "kapo," it wasn't right wing posters who kept coming onto the thread of shame and getting away with the most horrendous abuse. I'm not particularly left or right wing but the assumption of moral superiority by many on there is pathetic.

Also Httrs is a massive attention seeking sh*t-stirring bell-end."

artant · 28/11/2022 22:11

@murasaki I took voluntary severance in 2019 intending to give myself a decent break before looking for work. Started a second MA to make myself think and read difficult texts again. On the whole, I recommend the odd change in direction even though this time round it turns out I kind of retired by accident given that the pandemic. Fingers crossed for you.

artant · 28/11/2022 22:12

Also, excellent cats!

murasaki · 28/11/2022 22:14

Thanks @artant , sounds like it worked well for you. I'm banking on the studying keeping me going while job hunting, and just picking modules I enjoy, not work related. Done a preliminary lòok at a build your own humanities masters, I'm quite excited about it. Work had better pony up the cash!

murasaki · 28/11/2022 22:16

They are both excellent and utter shits. Like all cats. But very beautiful if I do say so myself.

dollymixedup · 28/11/2022 22:17

Lionel and Persephone say thank you. Amd Pifco is adorable!

Ginmonkeyagain · 28/11/2022 22:23

Aww cute doggy. What breed?

Winterborne74 · 28/11/2022 22:23

Mobilising an army really didn't work when we left of our own accord

There were enough of them signing up after the fact though, lining up to get their hair cut and struggling with their kit, nervously awaiting their medical examination.

Very lovely cats and dog, and hello Tag, Tass and Mach. Thanks for sticking your heads above the parapet.

weaseleyes · 28/11/2022 22:25

That ginger cat is a big beast!

murasaki · 28/11/2022 22:26

He's half maine coon. Very heavy when he sits on you...

dollymixedup · 28/11/2022 22:31

@Ginmonkeyagain she's an all sorts, mum was a chihuahua cross, dad allegedly a Maltese (her siblings were all fluffy) I think corgi and jrt are in there somewhere.

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 28/11/2022 22:32

murasaki · 28/11/2022 22:34

dollymixedup · 28/11/2022 22:35

What an elegant madam!😍 I suspect her legs are longer than Pifco!

Pictures and emojis anyone would think it was Christmas!

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 28/11/2022 22:39

Possibly a smidgen dollymixedup (and it is The Rules that all small dogs have a bit of JR in them, surely?)

Ginmonkeyagain · 28/11/2022 22:41

@dollymixedup She looks a bit Corgi!

otraynor · 28/11/2022 22:44

The posting of animals is the best thing about our new home! Once I'm on my phone rather than computer, I'll post some of Finlay (Border Collie) and Misha (cat).
