Kucinghitam · 28/11/2022 09:42

Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

Can I just say, KJK standing against Starmer... genius.

bignosebignose · 05/12/2022 20:27

The first part of my deleted post was just to say that I would be in favour of an appropriately named general thread where we can cover the range of issues we did on our old one, and in the correct folder. We can’t really do so here.

ExiledElsie · 05/12/2022 20:36

Okay let's decide on a name... it's got to be open enough for anyone to join if they want... I was thinking just "Women's rights general chat"? Is that too dull?

Gonners · 05/12/2022 20:37

Do any similar "general overview" threads already exist here? If so, it might be an idea to join in there.

I'm in favour of keeping a "lifeboat" thread in Talk, for people still floundering in the sea of hate.

ExiledElsie · 05/12/2022 20:40

Dilettantes discussion?
A thread to keep up to date with sex and gender issues and chat about them.

ExiledElsie · 05/12/2022 20:41

I don't think they do Gonners, at least not in the Feminism section. It's why I found the old thread complemented mumsnet well.

Just RTFT. Finally, something to look forward to.

Sashohoho · 05/12/2022 21:12

Loving reading this thread, it feels more harmonious than any thread in the old place. Plus the dogs and stunning cats make a difference. Hello Binker. Pike, interesting to hear of your love for your work. I couldn't do night shifts, I can barely stay awake all day, as it is.

A word about black and white cats ..I had two strays both white and black and full of character and squeaky miaows. My current one came on a two day trial over a year ago, and it's been good to see her character come out. Ostensibly a foster, but the cat woman dumped her on me.

I don't get much time online, and popped over to the Hadley Freeman thread. I was glad she has lifted the veil of silence over the Grauniad fiasco.
A general chat thread is good, and hope mumsnet oldtimers don't object.

TassLeHoff · 05/12/2022 21:28

Video has strong JTT vibes twitter.com/docmilanfar/status/1599656964413591552

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 05/12/2022 21:29

My vote is:

  1. Maintain a JTT Lifeboat thread here in chat for the forseeable, for general conversation and throwing lifeboats to anyone else diving (or thrown) overboard.

  2. Start an open-to-all general discussion in FWR with an opening post saying it's for general discussion of the issues, commentary on small stories or thoughts that don't (currently) merit a thread of their own, and to point out other threads we've found especially interesting or that have notable developments. For a title I'd prefer something single like Women's rights general chat rather than dilettante - the latter sounds a little unserious to me. And maybe specifically say 'all welcome'?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 05/12/2022 21:31

Oh - automatic numbered list formatting. Didn’t know it did that.

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/12/2022 21:34

Yep sounds good.

I have been getting involved in other areas. It'a fun. Bit I would like to keep a toe hold with you lot.

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/12/2022 21:35

Oh. Typos. Damn this place and the lack of an edit button.

Gonners · 05/12/2022 21:37

Arf! We're going to have to learn to proof-read. This is probably not a bad thing.

duc748 · 05/12/2022 21:38

Any University Challenge fans here? Tonight's was more fun than usual, for more reasons than one.

CyanCyan · 05/12/2022 21:39

Wot Bint said. I haven’t joined in much with other threads there as, while I’m very passionate about this topic, I find expressing my thoughts on it quite difficult and I don’t want to get shouted at.

Kerebus · 05/12/2022 22:11

Had a quick peak and it seemed to be mostly a certain rather prolix poster banging on at great length about new functionalities that he wants (but will never work). I don't think I'll be going back other than for a quick lurk, the lunatics are taking over the asylum.

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 05/12/2022 23:17

Yes re a general thread in FWR (perhaps with a slightly open title such as "we are a bit new here and we've got in the habit of a 'headlines' thread, all welcome" - and I think it would be useful to us all also if we had a scan and when we put up a headline put a link to the focussed FWR thread, if there is one, to encourage us to go out and multiply)?

You all have beautiful cats. I am, sadly, violently allergic - so it's great to be able to see them all on screen = not coming out in hives.

Mavis, I too remember the day Molly died. I can't now remember exactly what you wrote that day but I remember the terrible raw pain of it.

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 05/12/2022 23:24

Ginmonkeyagain · Today 12:44

I have nothing more to say on the JTT debate, what's done is done. People have their positions now.

Nor do I.

I thought we were unpopular but that sane people were reading what we wrote and that even if they disagreed, even if they thought we were being wrong, they were reading it as if we were sane people posting in good faith.

Turns out not.

So. It was not the place I thought it was (all you lovely lot apart, including the people that still disagree with me) and that means there isn't anything left. I am someone that is really up for a good discussion/row, and also really good at permanently walking away from things that turn out not to make any sense.

IReallyLikeCrows · 06/12/2022 04:22

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn I'm not moving too far from where I am but from a village with woeful public transport back to the seaside, although this time not Brighton but the delights of Worthing which is apparently the new Brighton. I really like it there and I'm quite excited about it. I'm also looking forward to my knees and ribs healing more as they're making packing more of a pain than it should be.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 06/12/2022 05:45

Excellent - I remember last time we 'spoke' you were trying for somewhere with better transport. I haven't been to Worthing since the 80s, so it's probably changed quite a lot. Seaside is good.

Ginmonkeyagain · 06/12/2022 07:41

@TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld kind of my view as well.

I was fairly shocked to read someone opining on there that the site had been ruined by the "arrival of centre right people". The sheer prejudice and close mindedness of voicing such a thing! Being centre right is perfectly respectable political point of view.

Ginmonkeyagain · 06/12/2022 07:42

I can't unsee that sort of close minded, smug prejudice now.

Winterborne74 · 06/12/2022 08:37

fairly shocked to read someone opining on there that the site had been ruined by the "arrival of centre right people".

That has always been his schtick. In group, out group tribalism applied to football and politics in a way that is clearly exaggerated, presumably for intended comedy - at least to his audience rather than his targets- effect. He was also the poster that said now the bigots had left, could we invite the nice people back please.

I find it particularly bizarre as I mentioned before that a decade or so ago there was an alternative forum which he was a part of. (I’m thinking of RA for those who remember, Crows,, merrylus, mostbeautifuldog). Many of the women are now here, while he crows about our departure. Other male posters from there merrily stick the boot into the terfs, while yet others studiously ignore the whole affair. I haven’t noticed a single one defend us. I honestly would never have foreseen things turning out this way. How naive I was, after all look at Helen Steel’s treatment.

Sorry for the brain dump, why do I remember this stuff?

StephanieSuperpowers · 06/12/2022 09:27

I thought we were unpopular but that sane people were reading what we wrote and that even if they disagreed, even if they thought we were being wrong, they were reading it as if we were sane people posting in good faith.

Yes. I think this is what I find hurtful. I don't expect anyone to agree with everything I say or every conclusion I draw on this or any other topic, but the idea that my views on this were formed by nothing other than sheer hateful bigotry is shocking to me. People that we've all interacted with for years on a variety of issues think this? Hard to accept.
