Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

@Dotellhimpike, alas she died back in 2012. She'd be 27 if she was still alive and I still miss her. Current cat is a black and white boy with a black heart-shaped nose. Francis (of Assisi). He's ever so slightly in my bad books at the moment because he keeps sleeping on me which would be fine if a. I didn't have bruised ribs and b. He wasn't a total unit. I've had him since 2014. I had a beautiful Oriental for a couple of years who was 11 when I took him on. He was in poor health and had been living in a cat house for nearly a year and I thought he needed to have the comfort of a home in his last years. He was adorable. Oscar Peterson.

Winterborne74 · 05/12/2022 18:10

I remember you talking about Oscar Peterson, which I always thought was a great name for a cat!

Tricyrtis2022 · 05/12/2022 18:15

This is the cat I spend most time around. His name is Bubo and he lives where I work. He's the most spoiled cat I have ever met, but he's a good lad and very friendly.

"Neuro is such a fascinating area, am considering going that direction but a friend said it’s quite difficult and I’m leaning towards an easier life"

It's hard work but not difficult (does that make sense?) but the rewards are enormous. I never get tired of seeing people who come in on a bed needing hoisted and turned to even use the toilet, walk out of the ward six months later. It's not the same outcome for everyone but I can confidently say that pretty much every one of our patients benefits enormously from the specialised care they get from our amazing OTs and the rest of the team.

You also learn to appreciate just how quickly everything we have can be snatched away in an instant, be it heart attack, stroke, road traffic accident or even a drunk tumble down a couple of steps.

Yes, and definitely re your last paragraph. I’ve always been interested in migraines and epilepsy but it wasn’t until I was assessed for MS that I really appreciated the extent of the neurology specialism. I went from walking normally to being unable to lift or control my leg in a matter of moments, and at the time I had no idea if my life would ever be the same again. It must be wonderful to watch people walk out of the hospital after they arrived in a state of paralysis, but also very tough to see the ones that don’t. I’m not sure I could do it.

CyanCyan · 05/12/2022 18:21

Hello Binker and sweet BinkerCat. And hello beautiful Bubo.

Tricyrtis2022 · 05/12/2022 18:25

TellCat looks very sweet.

Tricyrtis2022 · 05/12/2022 18:25

pike you do amazing work and I'm full of admiration.

Dotellhimpike · 05/12/2022 18:26

"but also very tough to see the ones that don’t. I’m not sure I could do it"

You don't start from the position of thinking X is my goal, every single patient is different and their outcome will be different, or job is to help them achieve them the best outcome possible for them, which may be walking again, or it may not.

Dotellhimpike · 05/12/2022 18:35

OK, the last hour of so of chat seems to have been pretty Pike focussed, sorry about that. Thanks Tricyrtis and others for the kind words but remember, I am part of a team, and part of an organisation, the NHS that you all pay for. socialised medicine free at the point of delivery, remains in my view the high point of human civilisation to date. Fight for it at every opportunity.

CyanCyan · 05/12/2022 18:39

I enjoyed the chat pike, I like our little thread.

"socialised medicine free at the point of delivery, remains in my view the high point of human civilisation to date. Fight for it at every opportunity."

Hear, hear!

Are you moving far, Crows?

Hello, Binker.
<Racks brains for Hepburn character names, despite having see loads draws complete blank on actual names apart from the Milton poem one. Oh, and GBS.>

Gonners · 05/12/2022 19:20

I'm thinking of a Maurice Chevalier song.

BinkerTell · 05/12/2022 19:22

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn - HollyGolightly

I do love all the pet pictures. And fascinating to hear about your work, @Dotellhimpike.

Winterborne74 · 05/12/2022 19:22

I picture Binker as extremely glamorous, with a tiara, cigarette holder and sunglasses, Bint.

Winterborne74 · 05/12/2022 19:22

Too late!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 05/12/2022 19:42

That was the first character that came to mind, but the only name I could remember from the film was Cat.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 05/12/2022 19:44

BYW, our original landing thread seems to be full. Are we starting another one there or dispersing across the folder and keeping chat to here?

Winterborne74 · 05/12/2022 20:01

I like a signpost thread personally, as I generally find myself overwhelmed with the volume of information. The general thread allows me to keep in touch with things, and I can choose what to read about in more detail on dedicated threads. I’m glad Stephanie started the thread and allowed us to find our feet, and there were plenty of welcoming voices.

That said, a number of non-JTT posters commented that the thread came across as uninterested in the rest of the board, and hence we were perceived as cliquey and a bit arrogant.

The 1000 post thread limit makes it a bit harder to sustain a thread like that, as we’ll be starting new threads once a week or so.

My feeling is we should give it another go if there is an appetite for it from exiles, but we may find that as we get used to this place the need for such a thread reduces, especially as we have this chat thread.

ThucydidesJTT · 05/12/2022 20:03

Phases in.

Is this thread title sufficient for current and future exiles to find it as there is no overt JTT reference in it?

The reformatted JTT goes live in Feb 2023 but depending on developments and their final position on THE ISSUE there will be a need for a lifeboat until sometime after then (as users make their choices).

Also a "clubhouse" thread for the exiles would be welcome even beyond that as far as this mostly lurker is concerned.

De-phases out.

Blast, should have checked, there is of course a thread about that. I will ask for the post to be binned.

Dotellhimpike · 05/12/2022 20:18

Having read that JTT thread on what is proposed going forward, I have absolutely no confidence it will work. Too many people with different views on what they want, and a total abandonment of what was the site's greatest strength, a willingness to accomodate a range of views. This means I think people will start to peel off in ever greater numbers. There is already at least one lifeboat but if there is a general chat thread here, it's be nice of people knew about it, so they could come and chat if they wanted to.
