What do you love so much that you can't understand why others don't?

I hope that the thread title makes some sense.

I was having a chat about this with a friend who is a camping fanatic and who is genuinely puzzled as to why other people e.g me despise it. She's that passionate about it.

I have various interests that I enjoy but I can generally see why they don't appeal to some others but it made me wonder what do you love you so much that you can't understand why others don't share your passion?

The 9-5 - people talk about it like it's the worst thing ever but I am happy sitting at a desk to do my job and having evenings and weekends to myself. Secure (ish) employment, good pension and sick pay and maternity pay.

I absolutely love it when people cancel plans on me at the last minute, no matter how much I am looking forward to the plans. It’s such a thrill to unexpectedly have time that isn’t earmarked for anything!

SAME! I call it ‘stolen time’. It’s like the thrill of having literally stolen the time yourself - you suddenly have this free period that you wouldn’t have had and it feels like the world is just your oyster!

Ah but do you like bayonetta and parrots 🤣🤣

Not having kids.

Clean house. Peace. Quiet. Pacing towards early retirement & using the extra income to travel.

I do understand why some people have kids, but it does surprise me that the majority do.

Reading definitely.

It's such a part of my daily life.

Somebody recently said to me "I'd never have bookshelves like this in my house" and then added "Weird"

I felt sad for them not myself, and the rich worlds they are closed off to.

Yes, and it is extraordinary that many homes don't even have one shelf or booKcase!

Geeky stuff. Star trek, star wars, marvel etc. I absolutely love immersing myself in fictional universes. Films, TV series, books, comics, fan fiction, merchandise- toys, clothing, prints. Adore all of it.

Goat's cheese

I love goats cheese. I bought some today to have as soon as my baby is out. I have been thinking about it for months.

mathanxiety · 19/11/2022 19:08

Also, books everywhere, and plants indoors

I feel a bit sad reading this thread because it's made me suddenly realise that there's nothing I really love doing. I love my kids and dh obviously but there's nothing I particularly enjoy doing Blush

I don’t think there’s anything I can’t understand other people not liking, but there are things I like doing.
There must be things you’d always rather be doing, like watching a film or eating a cake or something???

dinoprincesses · 19/11/2022 19:12

@NoNameNowAgain I suppose the only thing I look forward to is having a bit of time to myself where I don't need to do anything. But then saying that makes me feel mean because I love my Dc, they are just at hard ages of being really young and needing me to do everything for them.

ProperVexed · 19/11/2022 19:13

Birds.
I like feeding them, watching them, reading about them, photographing them.
And now, as I have a trainees permit to do so, I love handling them to work out their species, condition and age.
Brilliant hobby.
