What do you love so much that you can't understand why others don't?

I hope that the thread title makes some sense.

I was having a chat about this with a friend who is a camping fanatic and who is genuinely puzzled as to why other people e.g me despise it. She's that passionate about it.

I have various interests that I enjoy but I can generally see why they don't appeal to some others but it made me wonder what do you love you so much that you can't understand why others don't share your passion?

Living in a rural, remote place devoid of people. Cities are so noisy with the PEOPLE, the constant sirens, etc. I like silence.

Snow! Frosty mornings. I would love to visit Iceland or Scandinavia. I am beyond excited when it snows, but sadly, our climate is very much changing.

Frogs, newts, tadpoles... I love pond life!

My hot tub. What’s not to like. In it every day esp winter. With coffee and a good book massages your neck

What’s not to like? The electricity bill! I had one of those lazy spa’s in lockdown, it was expensive enough to run then, it’s stayed off this year. I also don’t like getting out in the winter, it’s freezing

The Script.

dd aged 19 and dh tease me about it. I just love all their music. Dh always laughs and says it’s like one man’s ramblings about how long it’s taken him to get over his ex 😆

I love The Script!

Bridges.

I fucking love bridges.

Plants and gardening. I don’t even have a proper garden and don’t understand people who do have lots of outside space and somehow don’t have the urge to fill it all with beautiful flowers.

@redjoker what’s in your dinner that you have every day?

YukoandHiro · 20/11/2022 09:03

@Hooverphobe Ha ha I feel the exact opposite. I love living in the city and hate the oppressive silence of the countryside. The quiet and dark actually scares me a bit.
In fact we've just moved from a flat to a house (well overdue) and I actually miss hearing our neighbours moving around downstairs!

YukoandHiro · 20/11/2022 09:06

@Asthenia Do you have any kids? I'm a reader but since I had my second child I've hardly had any time to read and I just can't stay awake to read at night. It makes me really miserable but I don't know how to solve it. I feel totally overwhelmed with other stuff to do.

redjoker · 20/11/2022 09:08

@PurpleParrotfish I have orzo pasta cooked in chicken stock. I add chicken, broccoli, cream cheese and lots of black pepper

I am never sick of it and miss ut if for any reason I can't have it

Asthenia · 20/11/2022 09:10

@YukoandHiro i have a 1 year old DD and don’t get me wrong the reading has definitely slowed down compared to before! But I’m a fast reader and tend to prioritise it over other things at times (even when I shouldn’t). I go back to work in a few weeks so I imagine that will only slow me down more!

SunflowerSmith · 20/11/2022 09:12

Caravanning, I'm in mine now and have had yet another fantastic weekend away.

My dog in my bed, she's like a real life teddy bear and hot water bottle rolled into one.

Holes, I get a prickly, pleasant sensation when I look at them and want to see what's inside, complete opposite of trypophobia.

VR headset, I spend a couple of hours each night in vr, I exercise on there, play paintball, explore the world, chat to people from all corners of the globe and most recently play Among Us.

YukoandHiro · 20/11/2022 09:41

@Asthenia ah... I actually managed ok when I only had one. It's just impossible now with two, plus working four days, plus school runs, clubs, husband working shifts. By the time they're both asleep all I can do is watch half an hour of tv and pass out.
I just keep reminding myself they will only be this young for a short while

Watching videos of spots / boils / ingrowing hairs being squeezed.

I hear you ‘cyster’ (see what I did there 😁?)!

For the dress fans, I'm not following, you mean your lady parts are NOT suffocated? And how do you keep your legs warm?

How do you ride a bike, and which (suitable for tromping thru mud & riding a bike) shoes do you wear?

Wool tights and boots.

For riding a bike I wear waterproof trainers.

Wearing dresses!! It’s the laziest and most comfortable clothing yet I always get people say you are dressing up

I only wash one piece of clothing to make an outfit, never have to make sure my top matches my pants , can wear it year round add a cardigan, coat and tights and it’s the comfiest no bottoms or zips around your waist and your lady parts are suffocated!!!

I wear dresses for exactly that reason. It's so much easier than picking outfits and I also hate waistbands!

Used to get the same comments about dressing up but anyone who knows me knows it's because I'm lazy.

The only bottoms I own now are joggers, shorts and a couple of skirts.

Reading is one for me. I love it, DH and others I know hate it.

Spreadsheets. I have a Christmas one that I've used yearly for 7 years. I can tell you what I bought 5 years ago and how much it cost. I also cannot go on holiday without creating one of potential hotels/locations

Repetition
I have eaten the same dinner (aside from events and having guests and odd days) every single day since May 2022 and ill have the same tonight

Being on my own. I have one child and a dh who works non stop including nights. Bliss

Cleaning. A clean house brings me so much joy. And I cannot enjoy big occasions if it isn't clean. I take a day off work for the big Xmas clean. Might seem sad but the outcome is very good for my mental health

Oh and strictly come dancing. Highlight of my year. Honestly.

I need to know what the dinner is you've been eating daily! Pure nosiness rather than judgement.

I have loads of boots and tights - although tights are also the devil's work so I'm thinking of making the swap to leggings if I'm wearing boots.

I train a lot so also have a lot of sports legging that I'd wear for something like that too. I don't turn up to weightlifting in a dress 😆

Cats
domino’s (the pizza not the spotty tiles)
gaming ( although lots of people love it not many women my age in my family get it)
faffing about in word and excel and design software on my computer, I wish I could get a job in it but have so far been unsuccessful
