In my case it's sourdough. I hate sourdough bread and while the pizzas are generally ok, I still prefer regular pizza dough but so many places seem to be switching to sourdough.

Also, putting biscuits on top of other sweet things. What's wrong with just a plain brownie? Sticking a Party ring on top doesn't improve it.

Salted caramel. I love salted caramel but it's in everything!

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2022 20:09

Salted Caramel everything.
Mince pies with nasty candied peel in.
Biscoff

howaboutchocolate · 03/11/2022 20:09

Miso in everything. Miso where it doesn't belong.

SquigglePigs · 03/11/2022 20:09

Brioche buns with burgers. I love a good burger but brioche buns utterly ruin them!

dottyrobin · 03/11/2022 20:10

Grazing boards - butter boards in particular are really weird

Skinnermarink · 03/11/2022 20:11

Switching things that were nicely vegetarian to vegan. I know they probably think it kills two birds with one stone on a menu but it’s bloody annoying. I still want cheese!!

Ostryga · 03/11/2022 20:12

Salted caramel, please do one.

Dessert only places - donuts, cookies, waffles etc. They’re usually shit and pricey.

Faux-Korean food. The authentic recipes aren’t hard to cook and are so so delicious. I don’t want overly sweet, syrupy chicken fried in breadcrumbs being called Korean fried chicken anymore!

A trend I’m desperate to see take off is raw, cultured butter available everywhere. It’s so good but sadly it costs me £8 a block and I eat it in 3 days. Cannot afford that in a cost of living crisis!

dudsville · 03/11/2022 20:13

I agree with adding sweets to sweets, and also i don't want a mile long layer of icing. A well made cake with a thin layer of bit heavily sugared icing is heaven. The rest is sick making. I have a cake given to me that i can't stomach the thought of eating as it's thin layers of cake between thicker layers of icing. It's pretty, but it's inedible!

Agreed with this. I lived in South Korea for three years and the ‘Korean slaw’ and similar trendy offerings are an abomination.

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2022 20:17

I'm also finding Chilli is getting into things I don't want it in (which is everything!)

Laurdo · 03/11/2022 20:18

Gourmet burgers that cost like £18 (It's a glorified sandwich) and are impossible to eat without either dislocating your jaw or taking it all apart and then what's the point. Hands, face and shirt all covered in a mixture of "slaw" chipotle mayo, bbq sauce and guacamole! Yuck!

NameChangeLifeChange · 03/11/2022 20:18

Biscoff. Aaaaargh I hate it! Every desert is ruined by bloody biscoff.

Relocatiorelocation · 03/11/2022 20:19

Things that are not plates being used as plates. Fuck off back to 2015.

AlviarinAesSedai · 03/11/2022 20:20

Butter boards and grazing boxes.

Coconutcream123 · 03/11/2022 20:20

Salted Caramel.
Biscoff.
Orea anything.

JiggingJigsaws · 03/11/2022 20:22

Foam
Moss
Miso

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 03/11/2022 20:23

Beetroot used creatively. My DP has just read beetroot riata on a menu.

And sauces placed on plates looking like a skid mark. Q

sagalooshoe · 03/11/2022 20:23

Those dried fruit 'hit' pouches for kids. Toothache inducing, too sweet and yacky. Just eat an apple.
in fact all miniature packed lunch things like cheese string and frubes can do one. Just eat a bit of cheese.

Marcipex · 03/11/2022 20:23

I agree, I <gasp> don’t like sourdough.
It was invented by people who hadn’t got baker’s yeast.

I like salt in caramel but I have had enough of it.

Brownies, or worse, Blondies, topped with party rings, cream eggs, rolos, Oreos. Stop it. It’s grim, messy, and nothing simple is a treat any more.

Houselamp · 03/11/2022 20:23

Vegetarian alternatives to meat being made from pea protein- it rastes rancid and nothing like peas as they are trying to make it taste like meat- which it doesn't. Its just horrible.
There are good 'fake meats' and there are good normal vegetarian options, pea protein is neither and its awful.

Thursa · 03/11/2022 20:23

Salted caramel
Rocket
Burgers with multiple sauces on them.
Food served on anything other than plates

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 03/11/2022 20:23

Smashed avocado

Either slice it or mash it.

Brokendaughter · 03/11/2022 20:24

Salted caramel, sourdough, sweet tasting buns for hot dogs or burgers, packets with 5 of something in it which used to be 6.

I'm also really tired of artificial sweeteners in things that are only nice with sugar in them like lemonade.
I'd happily pay extra for the real thing as I won't buy the nasty stuff, but it's out of stock if you can find a hint it exists.

Also so called every shrinking bars of 'chocolate' with palm oil in it.
Won't buy it, don't count it as chocolate, tastes foul.

Same with biscuits/cake etc..
Give me the recipe when it didn't contain any oil at all or I'll leave it on the shelf.
I have many cookbooks, most contain a Victoria sponge recipe but none of them require palm oil so why is it in every single cake in most shops?

What's a butter board ?

KatieBenz · 03/11/2022 20:24

Beetroot. I hated it when I was a child and still hate it now. Unfortunately it seems to be a favourite in the local pubs.
