In my case it's sourdough. I hate sourdough bread and while the pizzas are generally ok, I still prefer regular pizza dough but so many places seem to be switching to sourdough.

Also, putting biscuits on top of other sweet things. What's wrong with just a plain brownie? Sticking a Party ring on top doesn't improve it.

Hmm Looks like a flowery puddle of vomit.

😁

lightisnotwhite · 03/11/2022 22:43

Sweet potato fries instead of chips. Disgusting, especially if served with a brioche bun burger.

Not getting vegetables as standard with a main meal. I’m sure artfully arranged meat on overly creamy potato looks lovely but it’s my actual dinner and I want something green with it.

Calories on the menu, has put me right off.

Hmm, I’m the opposite. If I know that my lovely pub lunch was 1500 calories (+wine), I will cut back the next day. I’ve found it quite interesting. Adding chips (which I love) adds 500 calories to a meal.

glassfully · 03/11/2022 22:49

@lightisnotwhite I've never seen sweet potato fries as standard, only as a swap for a bit extra. I loooove them. Especially with aioli. Reminds me of when I lived in New Zealand and you could buy them at the fish and chip shop Grin

Poncy pub menus. I want to go to a pub to relax, have a few glasses of (overpriced) wine and a nice comforting (bog standard) meal, not this sort of stuff

OMG that looks like the menu that popped into my head when I saw this thread.

I don’t mind an odd alternative but sometimes I just want, fish & chip, bangers & mash or a plain chicken salad when I go out.

Exactly! I love Korean wraps, Turkish kebabs and Mediterranean meze, but all I want from my local pub is a lovely atmosphere, reasonably priced plonk, great staff and comfort food.

DarkNecessities · 03/11/2022 23:03

I really don’t like salted caramel

tou lot must be eating different sourdough to me. It’s delicious!
I don’t mind brioche buns.

OppsUpsSide · 03/11/2022 23:03

Ugh who would want to

PurpleButterflyWings · 03/11/2022 23:06

Biscoff ALWAYS pops up on these threads. I have literally never heard of it, let alone tried it. Never heard of a butter board either.

Anyway, as for me... I am sick of salted caramel too. Who the fuck ever thought that would be a good idea? Confused DH has salted caramel hot chocolate at night, and the smell is so vile and sickly that I have to put an incense stick on to get rid of the smell.

And yes sourdough. It's vile.

Avocado. Bland as fuck.

And as a pp said, I am sick of stupidly tiny chocolate bars now, that are offensively small, and taste greasy and slimy because palm oil!

Food served on a lump of slate in restaurants.

I also hate basic shit being labelled as something fancy and frilly and then tagged with a silly price. In a new little pretentious, hipster. vegetarian restaurant me and DD and 4 of her pals went to for lunch a few months ago, the cheapest lunchtime meal I could find was £9.49. It was 'oeufs pochés sur pain grillé' Basically..... it was one piece of toast with 2 poached eggs on it, and a bit of basil and pepper sprinkled over it. Nearly a fucking tenner for 2 poached eggs on toast.

Bigslippers · 03/11/2022 23:14

Anything on the menu that says ‘deconstructed’ …. Lazy fuckers just can’t be arsed to put it together

Chips served in a metal plant pot. Put them on my plate please I dont want to grow them I want to eat them

Cauliflower rice. If I want rice I’ll have rice. If I want cauliflower I’ll have cauliflower

Fruit infused water bottles. For fucks sake… Just eat the fruit and drink the water

SuperCamp · 03/11/2022 23:35

Beetroot in cakes
The whole range of cakes on display being vegan and / or gluten free. No, they don’t taste the same, and certainly not better unless the original recipe was naturally vegan or gluten free.

I love proper sourdough. And salted caramel. Not brioche for burgers, but the McD burger buns are horribly sweet and they seem popular.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/11/2022 23:36

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I am sick of labels on products proclaiming, for example, "gluten free" when the item doesn't have gluten anyway!!!!

To stick to topic: expensive avocado toast in restaurants and cafes; pumpkin spice everything, deconstructed anything.

Twofurrycats · 03/11/2022 23:39

Butter board! What fresh hell is this?

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 03/11/2022 23:49

I’ll see your butter boards and raise you a mayonnaise board seen on Instagram yesterday.

Communal flavoured mayo puddle with a little heap of fries for shared grazing/wiping/dipping with everyone’s bare hands.

I honestly thought it must be a joke. All “smearing things on boards” ideas must be shut down with immediate effect

bloodyplanes · 03/11/2022 23:53

Cup cakes- so sweet and sickly

Brioche burger buns- completely ruin a good burger

bloodyplanes · 04/11/2022 00:00

Oh and pulled pork- absolute slop

Where do you live? I'd love to try this. It's lasagne and chips and not much else where I am.

MrsClatterbuck · 04/11/2022 00:20

My bug bear is pea shoots. Why why are they topping practically every meal I get. I suppose it used to be parsley but I am fed up with finding it on dishes. Though dh doesn't get it on his Ulster fry.

NotAnotherPylon · 04/11/2022 00:21

Because you've tried every vegan cheese under the sun, right?

Well that's just silly, isn't it? Why would anyone keep trying every permutation of something if they haven't found it enjoyable the first couple of times. Vegan cheese is pretty bad. I've tried about three or four and I really don't need or wish to try them all.

NotAnotherPylon · 04/11/2022 00:27

Gin and anything gin flavoured. I have tried to like it because all those rhubarb and bitter orange and raspberry variations sound lovely. But you can't disguise gin with nice flavours. Because it's bloody disgusting.

JohnsShirt · 04/11/2022 04:31

Yes!
Gin is horrible, flavoured gin is just horrible with an extra flavour.

Palmface · 04/11/2022 05:26

Butterboards look horrendous. It is literally a board with butter smeared over it, maybe something sprinkled/dripped over it, and a bunch of toast or cut veg to scrape up and eat said butter. Why. Just why.

Foods can be contaminated with gluten (and other allergens) during manufacturing, so this is absolutely necessary for coeliacs and allergen sufferers.

@BlindBat on the South coast. The pub is part of the Hall and Woodhouse chain. Lovely pubs, but the menus have got a bit to poncy for me 😀. That’s the starters. The main are 2-3 times the price. Sometimes I just fancy a £8 lasagne 😀

Sleepyquest · 04/11/2022 07:51

Truffle!! In everything. I used to like it and went off it when pregnant a couple of years ago and now can't stomach it
