So what are your energy bills this month?

Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

I'm hoping that with 14 people crammed in my house, their body heat will just warm the room up instead of using my heating 😂

Curlygirl06 · 18/12/2022 11:22

I go from the 14th of the month and my combined bill including vat and standing charge was about £184. 3 bed semi,2 adults, one out all day, me in a lot more. We don't have the gas ch on in the morning at all, just an hour and a half for baths and showers. I wear a lot of layers!

Daffodilis · 18/12/2022 11:38

Turefu · 18/12/2022 09:32

@Daffodilis Do you have gas heating? How warm is your house? I'm on prepayment too, similar electric usage, but more for gas.

Yes it's gas heating, but I hate it. I have a wood burner in my living room that I use most of the time. Also have gas cooker but use instant pots, slow cooker and airfryers more.

My December bill is £220 for gas and electric. That's for a small semi detached, with hearing on at 16c for 3 hours a day.

Athenen0ctua · 01/01/2023 09:44

£112 for December, would be over £120 under the cap, most of that saving on the electric standing charge (I pay 25p). Three bed semi.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2023 10:09

Just did meter readings this morning and am slightly in shock:

1st to 31st December costs - £217 gas and £186 electricity

We did have the cold spell so hopefully gas should be lower next month. November gas was £127.

ilovebrie8 · 01/01/2023 11:41

Just got the shock of my life gave my monthly meter reading to bulb on 30th got my December bill this morning £315!! That’s electricity for a 2 bed flat that wasn’t even that warm . I used to be about £125. It’s not a good start to the new year am dumbstruck 😟

Haruka · 01/01/2023 11:56

Around £200 (dual fuel) for a 3-bed terraced house. Heating on for 1-2 hours in the morning, about 2-3h in the evening. That includes cooking the Christmas bird and the cold spell we had. Not too bad, but it did take a good chunk out of the credit I'd built up.

cakeorwine · 01/01/2023 12:01

£65 electric
£160 gas

No surprises as use Smart Meter and also have a spreadsheet. I pay by variable DD.

2 bed flat - not sure how efficient boiler is and it's in Yorkshire so colder up here.

With £66 off, that's £160 in total.

Feel for people who have high bills and are struggling to afford them

That’s awful, I’m shocked at the cost for a 2 bed flat! My three bed bungalow is hard to heat as it has a large footage and roof so I dread to see me December bill - especially as there was a window open in the area with the thermostat during the cold spell which I did not notice!

I’ve just had a bill but it was estimated so does not reflect my usage. I’m putting off the bad news and waiting until the next meter reading - in the meantime I’ve turned the thermostat down to 18° and reduced the length of time it is on to try to cut back.

whirlyhead · 01/01/2023 13:25

3-bed well insulated terrace, 2 adults, December bill was £450. But I’m with Good Energy who are exempt from the price cap, so my charges are double the price cap. My heating is only on 4 hours a day set to 19. Bugger all I can do about it really.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2023 13:29

@whirlyhead can you not switch supplier?

ilovebrie8 · 01/01/2023 13:30

Yep @Ilovetocrochet i am stunned 😧 it’s unbelievable

they’re actually really good and very easy to get hold of, plus they’re 100% renewal energy so I feel like I’m doing my bit for the planet. I’m planning on selling up and leaving the country this year anyway.

whirlyhead · 01/01/2023 13:38

Oops, quoted wrong post. My reply was aimed at @dementedpixie and her post about my supplier.

It shouldn't be double as suppliers not subject to the price cap are still eligible for the energy price guarantee. You should have been getting up to 17p off electric and 4p off gas, which is going up to about 32p and 6p from January 1st.

Electric heating and immersion I expect. We are a 3 bed, all electric flat and virtually identical December bill of £315. And the economy 7 tariffs are going up with most suppliers today due to some anomaly with how the price cap and guarantee interact. 8.5% increase on both our day and night unit rates. I thought they wanted to encourage off peak use? I did the calculation and for December we were still marginally better off on economy 7 than flat rate - but that's only because I'm setting washing machine and immersion to come on before night rate ends. And we used the storage heaters a lot during cold snap. Will keep a close eye on this month to month.

ilovebrie8 · 01/01/2023 19:07

@stellarspiral yep electric heating and immersion. No gas. We are also on economy 7. Am beyond shocked at this bill...

Nolongera · 04/01/2023 15:07

Electricity 15.50 quid standing charge, 156 kWh usage is 53 quid

Gas 9 quid standing charge 1153 kWh usage is 119 quid.

grand total £196.50 less 66 from the govt. equals £130.50.

All those usage numbers are rounded up, I calculated 120 last month before the govt. lump and it came in at 108.

£4.50 a day for all our house fuel in December. Since I have started to measure it we have become much more relaxed about usage.

LadyDanburysHat · 04/01/2023 15:43

The cold snap in December hit hard trying to keep my house warm enough working from home. Gas £233, had been £167 in November. Electric was £161, same as November.

We have an old boiler that is being replaced and a terrible electric oven, so hoping once those two things are sorted our bills should come down a bit.

WhoopItUp · 04/01/2023 18:40

My bill was £800 for the calendar month of December…… 😩🤬

skippingthroughthedaisies · 04/01/2023 18:58

Electric was £198 in Dec, up from £120 the previous month but we had visitors for 2 weeks and our showers are electric so it’s not surprising.
