So what are your energy bills this month?

Mealsonabudget · 01/11/2022 15:16

Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

£290!

GenderCriticalTrumpets · 09/12/2022 19:53

400 quid this month. Drafty house built in 1900 that really needs cavity wall insulation. We've hardly had the heating on either.

AzureOrchid · 09/12/2022 19:53

Mine is sitting at 159 for both at the moment and that's with the 66 discount removed. My bill is due in 6 days so I think I’ll be around 200 total for both once I pop my readings in , in 6 days time.
I have heating on 1 hour in the morning and 3 hours after dinner.

Don’t you all pay an annual averaged out bill rather than pay for what you’ve used this month?

I pay a direct debit that is consistent, yes. The actual bills vary by usage month to month which is what we are talking about.

Yes. Pay 275 a month but bill was 350. So this month is covered. Next won’t be if going to be 350/400 as obv will have heating on more at Xmas

Typical isn’t it. We’ve had some fairly mild winters recently. But it’s inevitable that we’re going to have a cold winter this year, with the war in Ukraine, and energy bills going up.

I just knew we’d be punished with a bad winter ahead.

2022 was the worst yesr ever. We were comi g out from the pandemic and there was so much illness about this year and not just covid stuff. I know a family hit hard with illness and death. It was the worst year ever. It really was.

Then there's all of these troubles going on.
I was going to have money on a cold winter for the very fact that 2022 was a load of shit.

We don't. We prefer variable DD so only pay for actual used the previous month.

I prefer to get the interest from the money in our bank account instead of the utility company getting it.

AzureOrchid · 09/12/2022 21:46

I don’t have a direct debit , I submit monthly meter readings and pay for what I’ve used.
( Used to pay quarterly but I’m now with a new company )

Catlady2021 · 09/12/2022 22:31

So the government has given every household a £400 winter discount. £60 per month credit over the winter months.
The bills will be reviewed again in April. What will the government do? People are struggling even with the discount. When I say people I mean basically everyone. Everyone is affected by the increased charges.
Whats the government’s solution for next winter ? I really can’t see people surviving like this long term.

AzureOrchid · 09/12/2022 22:38

Yes , next winter will be awful if there is no government support.
So let’s say prices stayed the same , I’d be 260-270 a month for both
Thats more than ten percent of our monthly income.
But prices are not going to stay the same they will increase in April , god knows what they will be next winter.
Will it be 3-400? A month ?
We can’t afford these increases , our mortgage rate is due to end next autumn too
Its EXTREMELY worrying

Turefu · 09/12/2022 22:45

Electricity roughly £9 per day , gas £40 per week heating on 18-19 degrees. Both prepayment. Scary.

Crosswithlifeatm · 10/12/2022 00:16

I've just put my reading for this month in.The last 2 months have been around the£70 mark but this is the first month with the heating on,it's even gone on in the rooms with the thermostat set to frost free settings.
I've got a £300+ buffer because of the 2 mild months since we had the government subsidy and my next bill will be interesting.
I'm ok unless I have to help my mum and student daughter out.

Anyone with Shell?
I pay 51p per kwh- my friend with Shell is paying 33p per kwh both variable- how the hell is this possible? Thought everyone was roughly the same- I need to move to Shell !

Where do you live? The energy price cap rate is between 33-35p / kWh for electricity.

Who is your supplier?
The price cap limits the average electricity price per kwh to 34p at the moment.

Octopus

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/12/2022 12:57

Ohhh I see so I octopus then do a deduction of the government amount which takes off 17p per kwh

dementedpixie · 13/12/2022 12:59

Did you fix?
Fixed rates are getting a certain amount deducted from the rates to bring them closer to or the same as the standard variable rate

cocktailclub · 13/12/2022 14:28

£298 gas
£149 electricity

We are with Octopus on a price promise tariff

Not sure what we are doing wrong. We have had some renovations which have meant some power tool use but I am really shocked by the gas .

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/12/2022 20:21

Cocktail our gas was £188 which I was shocked

as had been good I thought with the heating

I thought we'd been fairly careful
I keep thinking there might be an error
Only two of us live here in a four bed detached but we have hive thermostats on all radiators and don't turn all of them on

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/12/2022 21:54

How many units did your meter use

then depending if old or new you
times 32 for old (me) but not sure what for new

OriginalTheory · 17/12/2022 09:26

This month (with the freezing weather) is looking like it's going to come in at about £400 (combined gas and electric) here. Seems like and insane amount but with it being cold as sod out, combined with not having been very well, we've had to have the heating on much more (rather than the sporadic "just put in on for an hour to take the chill off when we get really cold" approach we had been taking).

Only actually paying £128 direct debit per month at the moment because of the gov discount and because we'd built up a lot of credit by cutting back on usage over the summer but that will have to change shortly.

Catlady2021 · 17/12/2022 21:16

I don’t understand how the government think that people can afford to be paying £300-£400 per month on energy, long term.
