Waiting on call back from 111

VenusClapTrap · 01/11/2022 03:04

There’s an unpleasant bug doing the rounds here that involves vomiting and stomach pain. Fortunately it seems to be short lived. I hope 111 ring you back quickly. Abdominal pain can be excruciating, even when it’s just gas.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 01/11/2022 03:04

I wonder if a warm (not hot) hot- water bottle would help with the pain?

Mindthegap725 · 01/11/2022 03:05

Red kidney beans? If they were dried not tinned they need to be boiled for at least 10 minutes or so. Could it be that?

Propertyporn · 01/11/2022 03:06

The worst of it seems to have passed now, just feels really tender still. Fuck me, the cold sweat scared me so much!

OP posts:
Propertyporn · 01/11/2022 03:07

It was tinned kidney beans, I'll be throwing the rest away though!

Intelligenthair · 01/11/2022 03:08

I’ve had cold sweats and fainting with stomach bugs / diarrhoea before, it’s a common link. Google vasovagal fainting I think it’s called?

Hand hold, it’s awful being ill on your own with kids.

Propertyporn · 01/11/2022 03:08

Thank you everyone that replied xx

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 01/11/2022 03:10

Thinking of you OP. Glad the worst has passed. Have some water to drink now you feel a bit better.

Propertyporn · 01/11/2022 03:22

@halfsiesonapotnoodle Thank you, I'm still tender but that crushing feeling of doom has passed.

Suzi888 · 01/11/2022 03:28

Cooled, boiled water. It’s an awful feeling, I’ve been there. If you do feel faint lie down if you are able to so that you don’t hit your head. Take a bucket to bed and some tissues. Don’t move too fast.

ThatshallotBaby · 01/11/2022 03:33

So scary for you. Glad it’s passed a bit. Have you got any mint tea? That can help with stomach problems, especially if it was wind.

Blaze3 · 01/11/2022 03:41

Hope you’re feeling better now and that you’ve had a call back

Rightsraptor · 01/11/2022 03:58

I'm here too, @Propertyporn , not ill just just insomniac.

Glad to hear your pain and fear are passing now. It's really scary, especially if it's just you with your small DC.

I'm not sure of this but I think you would have had diarrhoea and/or vomiting if it had been the kidney beans but I'd hang on to the remainder in a sealed container for a day or so in case they need to go for analysis - it could be a contaminated batch.

Hoping you are asleep by now. X

BCBird · 01/11/2022 04:42

Hope you are feeling better. I live alone and it is horrible when yiu feel unwell. It must be worse when you are responsible for others. Thinking of you. Virtual hug

TheLadyofShalott1 · 01/11/2022 05:04

Hi @BlackberryCat, If ypur back pain had been slightly higher up I would have suggested a kidney infection, as I was hospitalised with one and my symptoms were similar, but they started slightly higher up in my back, then spread to my front - right hand side, and then down to my groin area too.

As yours is where it is, I am thinking maybe a urine infection? They can be extremely painful. Can you try to have some sips of cooled boiled water (if possible), but don't wait for a just boiled kettle to cool down; bottled spring or mineral water - as long as it isn't fizzy - or even tap water, should be fine. But please do try to listen to your body, and if it doesn't want you to have anything then don't until you have had some advice.

However, unless you are going to need an operation, staying hydrated is very important, and could help flush out any toxins, and hopefully small sips won't make you be sick, or be too much of a hindrance on the off chance you do need an op.

If there is anyone who can come to your home ASAP to stay with your children then I think that would be a very good idea, as it certainly sounds either like a kidney or urine infection, or kidney/gall stones. If it is the first then you will need to take antibiotics, hopefully orally, so that you can take them at home, but you may well need a scan at A & E before you can be diagnosed.

Also, as the symptoms have worn off for now, it could be a grumbling appendix, or even a problem with your heart, as I think that women can get stomach pains when having heart problems, so please don't let 111 think that you are fine now! If the symptoms do come back they could be even worse than before, so I really do think you should go to A & E for a check-up.

Sorry OP, I really don't want to scare you, or sound overly dramatic, and I know that you obviously don't want to have to wake your DC up, and take them with you, so I am back to the point where I feel that I need to advise you again to get someone you trust to come and look after your DC, if you can think of anyone at all who will do so.

If you refuse to go to hospital for a check-up you will definitely need to drop a urine sample off at your GP's surgery later this morning (but as early as possible, and ask a Dr or nurse to check it straight away). If you do have a nasty infection you will not feel up to looking after your children, and a mild infection shouldn't have caused such a severe reaction, so again you will need someone else with you to look after your DC.

Hopefully, if you haven't gone to A & E (but I do hope that you have) you are fast asleep now, but when you get a chance, can you let us know how you are please. 💐

Gingernan · 01/11/2022 05:04

Hope you are OK,horrible when you are alone with children and are sick, maybe trapped wind, indigestion, can be excruciating or tummy bugs that usually don't last long. I second hot water bottles, take it easy today.

APJ1 · 01/11/2022 05:08

I've had diarrhoea from eating kidney beans and all the symptoms you describe are what I often get if I eat anything that sets off my IBS.

APJ1 · 01/11/2022 05:10

^Not that we can easily dismiss it as that though, so I hope you managed to get some medical advice now and feel better.

TheLadyofShalott1 · 01/11/2022 05:12

Sorry @Propertyporn for getting your user name wrong. I just tapped the @ button, and I thought that BlackberryCat came up first! I don't know if the Mumsnet computer can make that sort of mistake, but it is fine now, so it was probably just me not paying enough attention! Sorry again, and I hope you are still feeling a lot better x

Baconbuttiew · 01/11/2022 05:48

I get this in the night occasionally it’s a bowel cramp .Feels awful . I find dairy stuff triggers mine . Heat definitely helps . Might be a virus or something you ate but it shouldn’t last too long .

@halfsiesonapotnoodle Thank you, I'm still tender but that crushing feeling of doom has passed.

I don't want to scare you, but do listen to your instincts. If an 'impending feeling of doom' accompanies physical symptoms, it can be a sign that something is very wrong and doctors will take this feeling seriously if you report it. Follow your instincts (for example it may just be anxiety due to being unwell on your own, but if things ramp up, it could indicate something else, so don't feel silly about mentioning it).
