Who was that woman with Rishi Sunak just now at the palace?!

Is anyone watching the live news of Sunak going to meet the King? I just wondered who that woman was who was travelling with him and shook the hand of the man at the palace?! It wasn't his wife! The woman who got out the car looked like she was off on her commute or something! Carrying loads of random bags and wearing a puffa jacket! Grin

Apparently it's his principal private secretary that is with him.

Who came out holding his phone.

MrsMontyD · 25/10/2022 11:53

Or maybe it was hers, but I can't see any other reason why she needed to be there unless she's managing comms between him and his team.

Dinaprettyballerina · 25/10/2022 11:53

I think the Sunak's are a very well heeled, beautiful family, similar to the Obama's with their two daughters & Richi's wife is also highly educated like Michelle Obama... Much more glamour than Truss.. However Boris had a certain charisma & Carrie has some great fashion moments, love her swishy hair.
I wish the Sunak's the very best, beautiful family.

Who came out holding his phone.

The one who was in the car with him.

MrsMontyD · 25/10/2022 11:54

She left in a different car, straight back to the office presumably.

LIZS · 25/10/2022 11:55

Apparently his PPS. Rishi is very short so not sure how they got an angle to make him look as tall as King Charles!

The weirdest thing about that woman is the fact she is wearing a puffa jacket and scarf when it is 18 degrees in London today. I'd be roasting.

Pockets. It will be the pockets

I was going to defend the rando woman but having seen the video, that is not a good look to go to the palace, or even to any office job. I dress smarter than that to pickup my kid from school and I’m currently in PJs. 👀

Whoever she is, she works closely with the Prime Minister so perhaps wear something formal for his first day in office. It’s about showing respect for the situation and the institution.

I assume she was planning to stay in the car and didn’t expect to be on camera, but it isn’t a good look to be with the Prime Minister at all.

Maybe she's been up for 72 hours straight. Which seems likely. Doing all the grunt work of sorting out a second change of government in less than 2 months.

Boris looked significantly scruffier at every public appearance. And I bet this woman is dead competent

Carrying loads of random bags and wearing a puffa jacket!

One laptop bag and her handbag? Do you think you've maybe gotten a bit overexcited about all this OP Grin

There’s nothing wrong with the aide’s attire but it’s not really formal enough for for a formal televised greeting by the King’s household.

Rishi’s wife probably doesn’t want the “Mrs Sunak” role, or maybe she has a more important prior engagement.

What do you think might be 'more important' than The King asking her husband 'to form a Govt' on a wet Tuesday morning?

I know she's doing whatever she does in business or whatever, but Rishi is like a kid at Christmas becoming PM & she's his wife, you'd think she'd want to be there for him.

FictionalCharacter · 25/10/2022 12:00

Bit annoying that the BBC assume that the woman accompanying and assisting him is his wife. Wives aren’t obliged to be their husband’s PA. And she doesn’t even call herself Mrs Sunak, they should know that.

@LIZS on the photos outside, he looks like he's on a skateboard.

His wife must be dinky!!

I bet the elves are cursing having to stop the Christmas production to make 101 things for him to stand on!

Yes very interesting she's not made an appearance at all, not even entering Downing Street with him. I know she moved out of number 11 (or the flat above 10 which is where the chancellor lives) ahead of him quitting as chancellor as she was overwhelmed by all the media around her tax affairs.

Perhaps she's decided she won't live with him while he's PM?

Very sad for him to go in alone though without his family.

Was waiting for a glimpse of the new "First Lady" haha!

Please let's not start this nonsense.

It wasn't his wife!

Wowsers.
Man with busy job & a staff of thousands is seen in public with ... a colleague who is not his wife!

WTF are you on about OP? Would you have posted this if he'd been papped with a male colleague? What are you trying to imply?

NewsJunki · 25/10/2022 12:03

Ofgs @plasticdragon it was a joke. This isn't one of those Royal Family threads ffs.

Sunak has had several affairs. Surprised Boris and his team didn't try to use that against him but we shall see what comes of his premiership.

Has he @Jazzandblues? Do you have any evidence of that?

They're incorrect but it's not a massively unreasonable assumption. Truss took her husband, May took hers, Cameron took his wife.

If it had been a make aid I don't think the BBC would have said it was his wife.

I'm not "implying" anything. I'm outright asking. The BBC said "and here is Mrs Sunak" as the random woman got out of the car. I queried the factual accuracy of this! Okay by you?

For crying out loud.
Did your spouse accompany you to your new job?
Were you all sad that he wasn't walking you to the door of your new office?

He's not without his family - he is AT WORK.
And his wife is not obliged to be his support human or camera fodder.
