Who was that woman with Rishi Sunak just now at the palace?!

Is anyone watching the live news of Sunak going to meet the King? I just wondered who that woman was who was travelling with him and shook the hand of the man at the palace?! It wasn't his wife! The woman who got out the car looked like she was off on her commute or something! Carrying loads of random bags and wearing a puffa jacket! Grin

They saw a dark haired woman and assumed.

I think they just saw a woman and assumed

She's presumably his PA, more usual for a wife/husband to go.

Must be his PA. She was there yesterday when he left the house too. Definitely not his wife. I think they were expecting his wife but she didn’t appear.

Was it Huw Edwards who said it was his wife originally? Because he has been very stilted and tripping over his words on the 6 o clock news recently.

The man must need a holiday

King Charles is 5'10 so wouldn't be towering over him anyway.

I've met Charles a couple of times and was surprised that he looks a lot shorter in real life.

You know what, I'm glad that the new prime minister has someone who looks like a normal middle aged woman on the school run high up in his ranks advising. Makes a change.

Yes I agree. I also liked that his wife wasn’t standing looking adoringly at him. It makes a refreshing change for the spouse not to be used as a prop. Good for him, and her. I really liked his speech. Feel very positive about him as a new leader.

The Sunaks do dress well IMO. The polar opposite to Johnson.

Agree!

Very sad for him to go in alone though without his family.

Sad? I’ll save my sadness for the families he’ll no doubt screw over in the coming months.

What nonsense. They don’t need to be paraded around grinning to be supportive.

Damnautocorrect · 25/10/2022 12:25

His wife seemed to make the sensible decision to keep as far away from the political shit storm as possible when they moved out of number 11 after the press attacked her tax affairs and the police fined rishi for the party.

In her place I wouldn't be giving the press the chance to rehash that and for the fashion columnists and their like to have a go at what she chose to wear. Smart woman, IMO.

It's true. Why not do things differently. I just wondered if he felt, you know, quite vulnerable standing there without any family or friends supporting. Just on a human level like.

They said he chose not to have groups of MP supporters outside on Downing Street as he wanted to reflect the sombre / seriousness of things. Perhaps that also extended to family.

This is such a depressing thread.

ColadhSamh · 25/10/2022 12:28

Some of the comments on this thread towards another female are embarrassing and misogynistic. Great to see a woman who is obviously competent (otherwise she presumably wouldn't be in the job) being comfortable and not feeling obligated to conform. Well done her!! F*CK the begrudgers.

Fushiadreams · 25/10/2022 12:28

I also agree, I think last night bringing the wife and kids out was more than enough. I actually find it appalling that they are paraded for people like the op to gop at. Rishi is there for a job, he doesn’t need his wife on car journeys with him for gods sake.

KettrickenSmiled · 25/10/2022 12:10

Not in your OP you didn't

If you are going to query the factual accuracy of a news report, it's really helpful if you state your own facts, instead of missing out the most important one, & presenting a total non-sequiter in the form of "it's not his wife!" without the context you are querying.

You are quite aggressive in your replies. Calm it down a bit 😂😂

Sunak has had several affairs. Surprised Boris and his team didn't try to use that against him but we shall see what comes of his premiership.

How do you know it? I'm probably very naive, but I'm always so disappointed when I find out these men have affairs. Like they just couldn't stick to the woman they married. I don't mean Rishi here, but all these high-flying men. Ugh.

Well since more than half the party voted for him , his staff were just inside and his team outside, I very much doubt he felt vulnerable.

If he did then fuck me we made another bad choice of pm, if he can’t even do that without the his wife next to him. He’s the pm op, not some 16 year old on work experience,

PickySlackTastic · 25/10/2022 12:31

Why have you name changed for this thread @NewsJunki ?

Im guessing you’re aware that your gleeful speculation is cheap and nasty and you didn’t want it associated with your more regular username.

I think unless the poster backs that up I’d assume they made it up as they are just disgruntled.

HereComeTheGrannies · 25/10/2022 12:32

No offence to the woman in question but she looked a bit scruffy! I was surprised anyone would attend the palace looking like that!
Errr have you clapped eyes on Boris?

Probably prompted by OP's baffling lack of clarity in her OP & later drip feed that she was querying the BBC's mistake, & in fact NOT wondering why he was seen with A Woman Who Is Not His Wife@Preeeettyprettygood - but noted, ta.

Squerls · 25/10/2022 12:35

No doubt there’s lots more digging they can do on his wife, Rishi will want to present himself as very separate from his wife and her business affairs. Her not being there will have been a very deliberate move on his part. A very calculated couple. Why people are concentrating on a woman’s clothing rather than being concerned for what this next Tory has in store for everyone is baffling.

I don't think billionaires who back exiting an entire continental trade agreement on order to protect the offshre assets of their ilk & who have the confidence to accept the roles of Chancellor & then make a bid for the premiership are much prone to feeling vulnerable.
