Who was that woman with Rishi Sunak just now at the palace?!

Is anyone watching the live news of Sunak going to meet the King? I just wondered who that woman was who was travelling with him and shook the hand of the man at the palace?! It wasn't his wife! The woman who got out the car looked like she was off on her commute or something! Carrying loads of random bags and wearing a puffa jacket! Grin

Why would he take his wife? It’s a business occasion, not like going to get an OBE or to a Palace garden party.

The woman doesn't look scruffy. She looks like a normal woman who works as an aid. She wasn't actually meeting King C.

A very senior aid will be answering an incoming PMs phone, that's not a slight. He'll be expecting calls from world leaders.

Yes, that's exactly why I came to look for a thread before I started one. The BBC announced her as his wife which clearly sent the case. I don't doubt she's a senior aid.

But I've watched these ceremonies before (quite a few in recent times!) and I've never seen an aide going in with them. PLUS the BBC keep saying Mrs Sunak is with him.

There’s nothing wrong with the aide’s attire but it’s not really formal enough for for a formal televised greeting by the King’s household.

Rishi’s wife probably doesn’t want the “Mrs Sunak” role, or maybe she has a more important prior engagement.

In think that's exactly it, she appeared from being the car and her appearance was in contrast to the formality of the occasion.

Sunak has had several affairs. Surprised Boris and his team didn't try to use that against him but we shall see what comes of his premiership.
