How many times have you taken your DC to A&E?

DH think it's ridiculous the number of times we've been. I think it's pretty normal, we have active outdoorsy DC and have often thought we've been quite luck so far.
5 times with DS, now 12 and 3 times with DD (10).

3 and he’s only 2 🙀
2 were incidents at nursery and a other after a bump whilst out and about- lots of blood each time. Only needed glue once.

EmmaStone · 22/10/2022 07:47

Once each (17 & 15), but neither are particularly sporty or adventurous.

CormoranStrike · 22/10/2022 07:48

My DS is now in his 20s. Never went as a child, but he has been once as an adult.

DD is in her 20s, never been as a child, has been twice as an adult.

It's not something that has a normal amount, all children and families are different.

Would you not take injured children to hospital if I told you I'd been 3 times across all my children?

Is his point that you take them when it isn't needed or they are too careless? It seems a strange comment to me.

KangarooKenny · 22/10/2022 07:48

My youngest, never. Oldest twice with broken bones. Middle one, three times.
All accidents, never illness, but it was easier to get an urgent GP appointment when mine were little.

WeAreAllDead · 22/10/2022 07:49

Once with DD16

Ten times with DD14 - she’s wild, fearless, plays rugby, rollerblades so has had injuries every time we’ve been to A&E

Zero times so far with DD6

JJJSchmidt · 22/10/2022 07:49

Once each (8 and 3). One ankle injury, one breathing difficulties

ohforthelife · 22/10/2022 07:50

Never (and they're both adults). I think we went to minor injuries a couple of times with a sprained ankle and a deep cut.

I've got friends who've been dozens of times though, with every bumped head or fall!

Everydaywheniwakeup · 22/10/2022 07:50

Loads. DD has a cochlear implant so all head bumps/problems with the site are advised to get checked out. I always feel like a fraud, I'd never take her for some of them if it weren't for the CI, but the implant team insist.
And twice for broken bones.

Sirzy · 22/10/2022 07:51

Probably over 50 for ds (13) - joys of having a medically unstable child!

blackteaplease · 22/10/2022 07:53

Dd age 12, once to a&e, three times to minor injuries, one 999 call
Ds age 10 once to a&e, twice to minor injuries
Ds age 6 none so far

PuttingDownRoots · 22/10/2022 07:53

(Including Minor Injuries as there's been crossover depending on time of day etc)

DD1 (11yo)- three head injuries, one broken arm, one illness. All by age of 4.

DD2- zero. Shes made of rubber and just bounces.

DD1 is the calm one, DD2 is the crazy one.

Since DD1 was born, I've been in A&E twice and DH 5 times.

Mummysgonetobed · 22/10/2022 07:53

Oldest - never
middle - 4 times (2 broken arms, one chest infection, head bump)
youngest - twice, both with pneumonia

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/10/2022 07:54

ds once, hit on the head with a stick aged 12, needed glueing
dd burn, finger in door, cut on head we treated ourselves, perhaps wrongly
dd burn , cut on head, finger in door, stone in knee,

indeed when they were little the GP was the first port of call, middle dd admitted with bronchielitis via GP

Figgygal · 22/10/2022 07:55

Never with our 10 yo
Once with our 6yo

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 22/10/2022 07:56

DD 18 once
DD 16 once
DD 13 none
DS 8 once

Notjusta · 22/10/2022 07:56

DS1 (14) twice to A&E, both times for injuries when much younger, and once to minor injuries. Ds2 (10) only to minor injuries once. Expecting more in future with DS2 as he plays rugby.

As PP have said though - if they need to go you take them. If they are active, adventurous children then the risk of injury will be higher than a kid who prefers to stay at home.

SurlejTiger · 22/10/2022 07:57

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair Is his point that you take them when it isn't needed or they are too careless?
both I think!

The latest was after a phone consultation with the dr and she wanted DD's wrist x-rayed (not broken). Also been with her for a broken bone and stitches.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 22/10/2022 07:58

Twice with ds5 both head wounds that needed glueing (one that happened at school)
dd3 none yet

mrsed1987 · 22/10/2022 07:58

Ds3, once when he fell down the stairs at 1.5

SandraOMG · 22/10/2022 07:59

One each ((7 & 4). One ate something she shouldn't have. The other we got hit by a stupid woman in her car when she was a baby and she hit our pushchair. Thankfully all OK.

Also one trip to minor injuries when one of them shoved something up her nose.

Think that's it, but there honestly could be more. We've had to call 111 before and have ooh gp appointments too

MassiveSalad22 · 22/10/2022 07:59

Never - 3 kids 7, 5 and 6 months. HAVE taken them to OOH GP right next door to a&E I think once each. FAR quicker than a&e. Local friends (so have the same resources available to them) have often been to a&E with their kids, I don’t know why as the wait is horrific and they can just ring 111, whiz to the OOH GP and you’re on-site at the hosp if needs be 😵‍💫 Maybe these times were not out of hours though I guess. In our family things always happen in the middle of the night!!

Watch me now have to go to a&E with someone now I’ve said that 😄

ChakaKhanfan · 22/10/2022 07:59

My daughter (7) has been once, a lot of blood but no treatment, she tripped and bit through her lip, I think she was just about to turn 3. She had chicken pox at the same time so her little face was very marked.

My son, (3) who is a dive in head first type of kid has managed to avoid all trips to A&E so far and I don’t know how.

Gloooooo · 22/10/2022 07:59

DC 16 - never
DC 13 - once for a broken leg
DC 9 - 6 times as a baby/toddler for croup, 3 times as a child for stitches.

ecnatsid · 22/10/2022 08:01

DS aged 1 we've took him 3 times, he gets extremely unwell with chest infections. We've always took him the walk in and then went to A&E on advice of GP or nurses at the walk in.

Ds aged 3 just once following advice of GP for being severely underweight due to breastfeeding issues as a newborn
