How many times have you taken your DC to A&E?

DH think it's ridiculous the number of times we've been. I think it's pretty normal, we have active outdoorsy DC and have often thought we've been quite luck so far.
5 times with DS, now 12 and 3 times with DD (10).

5 times that I can think of with 5 year old DS. Unfortunately like me, he’s incredibly accident prone. All have been for stitches, a concussion and breaking his arm. All generally related to climbing or football.

CongratulationsBeautiful · 22/10/2022 15:31

DD is 9 - taken her three times - twice with asthma attacks that turned out to be a cat allergy and once when she pulled a cabinet onto her foot.

Kite22 · 22/10/2022 16:05

Prior to them being 18
dc1 - never
dc2 - never
dc3 - twice

They've all had to go since they are adults though

4 year old, twice.

inappropriateraspberry · 22/10/2022 16:13

0 with DD7, 3 with DS 4! Nothing really major, but had to be checked out - raisin up the nose and a couple of nasty falls.

theotherfossilsister · 22/10/2022 16:25

Three times, he's twelve weeks but was admitted twice

prettylittlethingss · 22/10/2022 16:35

Twice for my DS who's only 12 months. However one was a serious rash and the other a seizure so not unreasonable.
I however have only been twice and I'm 25.

"People with high numbers for themselves/their kids - do you look back now and see any that weren't necessary?"

Yes my son is disabled and had his leg amputated and had a very rough time with lots of infections etc so was always needed.

Babdoc · 22/10/2022 16:47

DD1, never. She is now 33 years old.
DD2, twice. Once with a suspected wrist fracture, once for a CT brain scan and lumbar puncture with suspected subarachnoid haemorrhage. She is now 31 years old.
However, I am a doctor myself, so treated most things at home. Including putting up a drip on DD2 when she was very dehydrated with a vomiting bug and refusing to drink. Saved her an admission, and the NHS a few hundred quid!

For children with burns and broken limbs?

Well obviously they come under serious cases, I wasn’t going to list every serious issue,

healthadvice123 · 22/10/2022 14:52

@2pinkginsplease do drs deal with broken bones then ? Clue is in the name ACCIDENT & emergency

Which is obviously a serious case!

fuck sake this site gets worse with some people nit picking!

girl71 · 22/10/2022 17:39

2 DC's , now 22 and 16. Never been to A&E. only saw GP with them once, when eldest had a chest infection that required antibiotics.

autienotnaughty · 22/10/2022 17:44

About 6 times all accidents (2 at school) he's 7.

girl71 · 22/10/2022 17:45

"we have active outdoorsy DC"

Are these active outdoorsy children being properly supervised while being active and outdoorsy? 9 trips to A&E in 12 combined yrs seems a lot .

girl71 · 22/10/2022 17:52

" @AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair Is his point that you take them when it isn't needed or they are too careless?
both I think!"

Hmm, kids being careless... is that not what parents are for?

Short of wrapping them in cotton wool though what can you do?

sometimes children need to be careless to realise that isn’t the best way to do something

Becgoz7 · 22/10/2022 17:54

With my eldest loads (multiple allergies and asthma) middle never youngest once (he does parkour and we thought he had broken his ankle. He's never even been to the doctor's 🤣)

girl71 · 22/10/2022 17:59

"@Sirzy Short of wrapping them in cotton wool though what can you do?".

Supervise , guide and protect them at that age.

"sometimes children need to be careless to realise that isn’t the best way to do something".

Not to the point where they require multiple visits to A&E. Guiding them through broken hearts and a stolen pencil case yes, this many visits to A&E? Really?

girl71 · 22/10/2022 18:03

""@Sirzy Short of wrapping them in cotton wool though what can you do?".

Refer them to MASH.

Afonavon · 22/10/2022 18:06

I have never counted, and can’t think of all the times individually, they all blend together, but include:

Fell whilst holding DS (he was fine, but I was black and blue)
DD got a Lego piece stuck in her nose (classic)
DS bringing up blood in his vomit as a tiny baby (tiny tear due to coughing)
Suspected concussion x 2 (sports)
Fell at school, needed 7 stitches
Suspected appendicitis x 2
Croup
Perforated eardrum (horrid middle ear infection, turned into an excruciating puss explosion whilst the doctor did the examination, urgh)

Plus many many more!

Justcashnosweets · 22/10/2022 18:11

Dd9, never.

2MinuteRice · 22/10/2022 21:36

I don't think there is a normal amount. 3 dc ranging from 25-10.
Once between them

WeeblesWibbleWobble · 22/10/2022 21:42

Teen 3 times maybe 4
10yr old 2 times
4 year old 6 or 7 times
2 year old once

amicissimma · 22/10/2022 21:44

Never. Now adults.

BabarEnFamille · 22/10/2022 21:54

DD8 - never
DS4 - A&E about a dozen times with bronchiolitis / asthma inc 2 ambulances plus minor injuries a couple of times. Would bet he’s got more scares in him too!
