How many times have you taken your DC to A&E?

DH think it's ridiculous the number of times we've been. I think it's pretty normal, we have active outdoorsy DC and have often thought we've been quite luck so far.
5 times with DS, now 12 and 3 times with DD (10).

None but she’s only 5

Concernednan456 · 22/10/2022 09:34

DD is 21 and I took her once for suspected appendicitis , and once to a minor injuries place for a cut hand that needed a stitch.

DS nearly 6 has never been to A&E . We did live literally opposite a very good GP practice so when he once got a very severe fever they sorted him out, we’d have gone that time otherwise I think.

NCHammer2022 · 22/10/2022 09:35

She’s only been to the GP once, I think we struck lucky!

Mine are adults now but I think we went once and called the NHS helpline once too.

PeekAtYou · 22/10/2022 09:36

Once with dc1 (21yo)
Once with dc2 (19yo)
6 times with dc3 (16yo) 4 of those were by age 4

Noelfieldingsjumpers · 22/10/2022 09:38

Ds1 aged 10 x3, once blue lighted.
ds2 ages 8 x1
Ds3 aged 4 none touch wood.

Fireballxl5 · 22/10/2022 09:38

My 2, ds once and dd twice.
In dd’s case she was with other adults both times she got injured.

Dd has a baby who has been to A&E already, tbf that was new parents worrying about a rash on a weekend and the doctor was lovely.

Glitteratitar · 22/10/2022 09:42

18 month old - 8 times. Four of those times he was blue lighted in and two of those times he was admitted.

Theydoyaknow · 22/10/2022 09:44

Never for any of my 4. All teenagers or young adults now.

Waspo · 22/10/2022 09:47

Three kids, total of two trips to A&E in 18 years, both for the same kid. Once as a baby when he was coughing so much he could barely breathe, and once 9 years later when he hit his head at school and then started vomitting at night.

ifonly4 · 22/10/2022 09:48

We took DD in three times. Once for appendicitis (had appendix removed), once for suspected meningitis (turned out not to be but they kept her in) and accident ripping some of her teeth out (requiring operation).

Bbq1 · 22/10/2022 09:53

I initially thought never but I'm remembering now! First time, he climbed out of his cot at about 12 months old and dropped very softly to the floor. He was fine and didn't bump his head or hurt anything but as a first time mum, I made dh take us to hospital. Ds was absolutely fine. The second time ds fell of his skateboard when he was about 7. He felt dizzy and lightly bumped his head. Again, ds was fine. They kept him in over night for obs and I stayed on a camp bed in his room. He thought it was a big adventure having a TV over his bed and "room service" as he caller it! We've been to the walk in maybe twice with sickness. I think that's it.

AwkwardPaws27 · 22/10/2022 10:00

Twice, & he's only 4 months old.
Both trips were on the instructions of our midwife, when he was 1 day old (extremely sleepy and not feeding) & 5 days old (lost 18% of birth weight). I felt like a total fraud, but it was on medical advice, & he's now chunky, happy & 60+ percentile.

Workyticket · 22/10/2022 10:02

Twice. He's 10

First time as a floppy and unresponsive newborn which was terrifying. He was prem and had been let out of NICU too early really. He was in for nearly 3 more weeks after that

Second when he was 2 and ate a sodding chicken leg including half the bone. I'd left a bought, cooked chicken in the living room away from the cat for 5 minutes and ds tucked in like a caveman while I was in the bathroom

ladygindiva · 22/10/2022 10:16

Dc1 (24 years) prob 10 times, never accidents, always febrile convulsions/ migraines , allergic reactions

DC 2 ( 5 years) never
Dc3 (5 years, twin of dc2) twice- bronchiolitis as baby and recent broken arm

My kids are not accident prone, coincidence they are all girls? ( Puts tin hat on)

daisyjgrey · 22/10/2022 10:43

Never. She's 12.

daisyjgrey · 22/10/2022 10:45

Oh she did have an emergency dentist appt when she banged her face, but that was at her normal dentist, not via the hospital.

Frith2013 · 22/10/2022 10:56

Child 1

Convulsion
Croup
Road accident (as an adult)

Child 2

Various appalling illnesses as he waited for an operation to fix them. 5 times?
Sepsis (see above)

bloodywhitecat · 22/10/2022 10:58

I've lost count with DD, DS only went three times in their childhoods. DD is a chronic, brittle asthmatic and almost all of her visits were via a blue light ambulance. DD went once via ambulance for chicken pox (she was having a seizure which, in the end, lasted for over four hours and saw her end up in PICU)

Frith2013 · 22/10/2022 11:00

Also Child 2! (I'd forgotten as these are nothing compared with the serious times)

Broken finger (slammed in car door)
Broken foot

Pixiedust1234 · 22/10/2022 11:03

This thread is eye opening.

DD1, now 28yr - never
DD2, now 22yr - never
DH - never
Myself - once for severe breathing difficulties, admitted and diagnosed with long term lung condition.

Topseyt123 · 22/10/2022 11:10

Eldest and middle DDs - never.
DD3 - once, when she was 10 and had fractured her ankle.

All are in their twenties now.

I do remember though when DD1 (then aged 20) and DD3 (then aged 13) had to take me. We were in Paris, about to visit the Louvre and I had a fall, completely smashing my right arm.

deliverooyoutoo · 22/10/2022 11:11

So many I can't count.

SavingsThreads · 22/10/2022 11:23

People with high numbers for themselves/their kids - do you look back now and see any that weren't necessary?

No but when I was in with a toddler having seizures there were no beds and a long wait due to the number of drinking related incidents ( Saturday night). Those people are the ones you need to aim your comment at, not people worried for their children.
