I know it doesn't sound possible but I'm being sick, can't stand the smell of my husband, have terrible headaches and am craving rice. I never eat rice! Also I can't bear tea and I normally drink gallons of it!
It must be a virus, right? No-one my age could possibly be preggers?

OP posts:

@JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon - not meant as nasty, apologies if it comes across that way. It's a lived experience and my opinion which is every bit as valid as any other.

I disagreed with the OPs statement that a baby to parents aged 52/53 would be a blessing. For them maybe, but not necessarily for the child/older siblings etc.

If people don't want to hear opposing opinions, then don't post your private business on a public forum.

It was cruel given that the OP was obviously not trying for a baby, and even more cruel after she posted the negative test and her disappointment. Especially as the risks of pregnancy at that age would be so great.

girlmom21 · 21/10/2022 15:24

@tenbob agreed people encourage other situations that aren't in a potential child's best interests too

whatamigoing2do · 21/10/2022 15:24

I had a post like this a few months ago. Mid 40s, grown up kids, Felt sick, couldn't stand the smell of chips etc. I was pregnant but sadly lost the baby so you never know. Good luck with whatever outcome you get xx

Hello all,
Thank you for the lovely messages and the ones who were mean you don't need to worry, it's a negative

Big, big hugs. I know you’ll be hurting just now after getting your hopes up there, I’m sad for you. I’d feel the same way. And don’t listen to the meanies. 🤗

Axahooxa · 21/10/2022 15:57

Repeating pp- my kids have had a virus with nausea, headache and went off their food.

TheOrigRights · 21/10/2022 15:57

Cassavaflower · 21/10/2022 14:51

It will be menopause
I had a blood test to rule out anything else and I get the results on Monday. I will then look into HRT I think, can't cope with these symptoms. If I had been pregnant I would have been happy but it's not something I ever imagined happening at this stage of my life 😊

[hugs] OP. You've had an emotionally testing time.
Be gentle with yourself.
I hope you find a way to manage your symptoms. I'm 52 and all over the place with hormones and weird physical stuff. If it wasn't for the fact I haven't had sex for many years I'm sure I would often be wondering 'could I be'?

Axahooxa · 21/10/2022 15:58

im sorry OP, I imagine you’re feeling very deflated and disappointed.

Hi OP. I've been following your post, hoping you got the result you were wishing for.

I'm sorry the result is negative. I hope you're okay and can be gentle with yourself if you need to grieve it 💐

EndlessMagpies · 21/10/2022 16:01

There really are some staggeringly tactless posts on this thread. I despair, I really do.

Togoodtobeforgotten · 21/10/2022 16:07

Sorry about you not being pregnant op but there are loads of virus going around which seem to affect the ears and stomach, hope you feel better soon.

Fuckityfucksake · 21/10/2022 16:08

OP I'm perimenopausal and the amount of money I'd wasted on pregnancy tests is a fair amount because of symptoms you describe. I knew I more than likely wasn't but needed to test to confirm haha
All symptoms stopped when I was finally listened to and started HRT

Have you also done a Covid test? Because your symptoms don't sound terribly menopause-related by very much like my partner experience recently when she got Covid.

Sennelier1 · 21/10/2022 16:35

You need to test as soon as possible. I went into menopauze at 58. At 53 I had a bloodtest to see if I was still fertile. My GP got the results and told me "I had the fertility of a 35-year old" 😳 I asked for an iud, but I was deigned too old for that. So too old for iud but not too old for a pregnancy? So ues, I took the pill for 5 more years. (I'm in Belgium)

Yourhamsterisnonbinary · 21/10/2022 16:51

Surely what's mean is to encourage a 53 year old to think that they might be pregnant. It's virtually impossible.

theremustonlybeone · 21/10/2022 16:53

Same age as me and I hate my DH not his smell Grin

I am off to the GP for HRT, I am hoping it helps me with my menopausal rage!

Coffeetree · 21/10/2022 16:56

So true. I bought loads of pregnancy tests between ages 46 and 50! Feeling normal now that periods stopped. You've had a wild morning OP! Hugs to you.

menopausalbloat · 21/10/2022 17:00

Heightened sense of smell, migraine, food cravings and a myriad of other symptoms are all included in peri/menopause. I have them all.

Nymeria6 · 21/10/2022 17:50

My Auntie had her first baby at 53 whilst sitting on the loo on Xmas Day. She hadn't known she was pregnant as she thought it was menopause. She thought the pains where indigestion from the food.

Maireas · 21/10/2022 17:58

You can look up births after 50: it's incredibly rare to have a successful live birth. Of those, most have had some form of assisted conception, usually IVF with donor eggs.

Was this in the UK? I've just gone down an internet rabbit hole, it's such a rarity without assisted conception.

agent765 · 21/10/2022 18:37

Rare but still possible. We scanned a 54 year-old who fainted when we told her.

I bet she did!
What I meant was rare successful live births.

It was a live birth. Down's and a bit of a shock but 22 years old now and still his parents.

MsCactus · 21/10/2022 19:18

Such an interesting thread! One thing on fertility... Your chances of conceiving are way higher with a younger man OP, studies have found once a man is 40 or over you're three times more likely to miscarry a pregnancy, so it's quite significant.

Don't know how old your partner is, but if they're much younger this could make a pregnancy in your 50s more likely

Ah, I hope they're all ok.
