We haven't here.
It still doesn't feel cold enough in the house for me. Although ours neighbours is on (which probably keeps us warmer).

No, and I am not planning to. It’s been pretty mild so far anyway, and I have fleecy blankets and warm clothes.
I grew up in the 50’s with no heating other than a coal fire some evenings, and I know my bungalow is better insulated than my childhood home. I think I’ll survive!

chipshopElvis · 27/10/2022 06:49

I haven't, it hasn't been cold enough so it's not a hardship. I washed all the sofa covers yesterday and they are not drying very quickly so I considered putting it on to help with that but thought we would all boil alive!

queenatom · 27/10/2022 06:49

Haven't needed to here yet (SW), it's still mild outside and we're mid-terrace so well sheltered.

LaurelGrove · 27/10/2022 07:15

Once, earlier this month, when I wasn't feeling well. Not since then. Other people in the house are complaining but when they pay the bill and wear a jumper and socks, we will talk; until then, no. It is really warm here so it really isn't necessary. However, it does mean the washing takes longer to dry and I don't have a tumble dryer, so that is a pain.

belxbel · 27/10/2022 07:24

SW London. My flat is 27degC yesterday evening. We have a portable air-conditional unit for the summer 🤣

OriginalFloorboards · 27/10/2022 07:30

Not on at the moment but we had a log burner put in and have a barn full of free wood. We are in the North. Our heating is oil and our boiler is really old. We don’t have a thermostat so no idea what the rooms are temperature wise. I’m in and out throughout the day with the horses so it’s mainly the evening where I notice it. Glad it’s been mild though. I’m dreading the oil prices especially on a heating system that isn’t effective in an old farmhouse.

Wishyfishy · 27/10/2022 07:36

Moving the dehumidifier around room to room quite a bit because it feels damp (and that can be a problem in this house) but no need for heating yet. Dehumidifier making a massive difference.

I don’t think I’ve seen any of the gas flue pipes on the sides of buildings puffing out smoke yet this year, it’s been so mild there really would be no point yet.

I think I saw something saying November might get really quite cold quite soon though, so I guess an hour or two a day from whenever it gets properly cold.

diamondpony80 · 27/10/2022 07:48

The weather is quite mild for this time of year. Our indoor temperature has only gone below 20 a few times so far so not really any need for heating. I have switched it on for an hour or so in the mornings occasionally and I did on Saturday to help speed up drying of the clothes.

PaperMonster · 27/10/2022 07:55

Not here in the NW. have started putting the bathroom heater on for an hour at night this week, but that’s about it. Windows are open for most of the day still.

DemBonesDemBones · 27/10/2022 19:55

Scotland, yes it's been on!

OhmygodDont · 27/10/2022 20:02

Not yet. House hasn’t dropped below 19c yet. I keep checking the meter to see if it has but so far our usage is steady so it’s not come on while we have We have been Asleep either

OriginalFloorboards · 28/10/2022 08:47

@Wishyfishy are they good? I think we need one in our old house. Water runs down our windows!

HideTheCroissants · 28/10/2022 09:21

My heating will come on automatically if the temperature on the landing drops below 17 degrees (no matter what the date). It did a few times earlier this month but it’s been quite warm here in the SE.

I looked at the thermostat when I got up at 7 am and it was showing 19 degrees so plenty warm enough to be sitting here in jeans and t-shirt.

Onandgrowing · 28/10/2022 09:38

Ours hasn’t come on yet (set to if house goes below 18 degrees). But we are very South (coastal) and it’s not cold yet!

Yes! Are you single glazed like us?

We had a tiny cheap one for a few years and it was useless so invested in a proper one about 18 months back and it has made the world of difference. I love that it tells me how humid the room is.

We have one room that I had a big damp problem in. I spent so much time treating it and then re-painting it and I really can’t do it again so the de-humidifier mostly lives in there (and so far, no damp problem whatsoever) but gets wheeled around for a few hours whenever I feel like another room could do with help.

I have a slightly smaller version (16L I think) of this

I'm in the West Midlands and have had it on for an hour here or there. Got a horrible cold at the moment and feel freezing so have put the oil filled radiator on in the living room where I am currently lying feeling sorry for myself.

OriginalFloorboards · 28/10/2022 14:37

@Wishyfishy yes and it’s 1850. I think older houses are worse.

I have one room where I vacuum the bits off the wall. I kid you not!

Had it checked out and it’s salts coming through so I keep redecorating it. Thanks that’s awesome. Will look into it. I try to vent the rooms with fresh air but in winter some days it’s too cold.

StaceySolomonSwash · 28/10/2022 14:44

No heating here yet. Got enough throws and warm clothes that we don't need it. Might well be a different story come February but we've got log burners and our own free seasoned wood so not really worrying.

Nagado · 28/10/2022 15:02

Not yet. It’s still really warm here and I suspect I’m peri-menopausal and having hot flushes, which is perfect timing really, if they carry on through the winter!

RaininSummer · 28/10/2022 20:18

It's crazily mild here. Thermostat said 20 around 7pm and I haven't even had the boiler on since around April or may. Worrying really but my bank balance likes it.

Same here. It’s 9:30 pm and I just checked our thermostat (heating hadn’t come on all day). It’s showing 21 degrees! DH and I in t shirts and feeling warm (thermostat is in coolest part of the house).

Comedycook · 03/11/2022 15:35

So we finally caved last night and put the heating on for about an hour before bedtime...I wouldn't have bothered if it had been just me, but put it on for kids. It was nice to take the chill off. Definitely don't need yet during the day.

Siouxtse1 · 03/11/2022 15:52

Snap! Put our heating on last night, just to take the chill away. Living in a rural (G10!) rental with overly high ground all around the base of the house and a failing/ non existent damp course. I use two dehumidifiers and ventilate daily.

Husband and I both frantically studying for further work-related qualifications. Just hope there are still decent jobs to apply for when we qualify and that the economy hasn't completely tanked beforehand! Glad we still have savings to cushion all this cost of living mire, but it's looking pretty bleak and it just seems so unfair for so many. 😢

Percypigfanatic · 03/11/2022 17:48

No, no heating on yet although it has turned chilly in the last 24 hours! Big jumpers and shutting doors seem to help at the moment

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 03/11/2022 19:25

Put it on tonight for an hour to 18. House was 15.

Have been putting in on on morning for hour since beg Oct tho.
