I have a weird phobia of buttons and freak out every time I see one Blush

Ssshhhhh · 16/10/2022 23:30

I go to bed every night wishing I didn't wake up in the morning.
I put a massive front on everyday and people think I'm happy but I hate every single part of my life and if I could, I wouldn't think twice about ending it.

Oh sweetheart. You matter. Tell us one thing great about yourself.

Thank you, that's made me cry. But I don't matter. Unless someone wants something.

I constantly worry about knocking my front teeth out.
I don’t know why, I’ve never knocked a tooth out, but I have this irrational fear of tripping in the bathroom and knocking them out on the sink.

OMG... I thought it was just me... !

EmmaH2022 · 16/10/2022 23:51

I'm another whose friends think I'm vegetarian

reality is partly that I don't mind a little bit of meat, but I am also really nervous of how it's cooked after having one of those major food poisoning strains.

so I occasionally have a bit myself or eat some of what my parents cooked as I trusted them to do it properly

I didn't think people would be okay if they thought I was doubting their cooking

plus I really hate it when you go somewhere and get served mostly meat, I always want the veggie option, so it's easier to say I'm veggie.

i know someone who will only eat high welfare meat - not sure if the name - but she says veggie as you can't ask people where they got their meat. She only eats it occasionally as she gets it from a particular place.

I had a supervisor at work who was similarly scared of balloons. She was petrified.
Her sons also worked with her, and one of them thought her phobia was hilarious.
I saw how bad it was.. he once took some balloons into our rest room when on a break and shoved them in his mum's face. She panicked and wet herself. Cunt of her son thought it was so funny.

That's really awful.
Poor woman.
My own fear is emetophobia, really loathe it, have had it since childhood.

Itchybites123 · 16/10/2022 23:54

Aha! What do people want from you? It must be something you’re good at 😉

Don't forget the Samaritans are there 24/7 xxx

I never knew there was such a thing as a buttons phobia or that it was relatively common (on this thread)

TheVolturi · 16/10/2022 22:42

My husband is controlling and coercive. People think I have it all. I don't.

Hi @TheVolturi, I am sorry that you are in this situation. Please please please get help, call or email Women’s Aid.

When my children were newborn I used to convince myself that I had bumped their heads on the bannister as I walked up the stairs. I knew I hadn't, but it was like a voice in my head telling me I had.
One particular day I was very sleep deprived and as I carried one of them upstairs I was utterly convinced I had done it, and believed the reason they weren't crying was because I banged it so hard, they were unable to do so.
It was only in the early days of each of the 5 of them being newborn.
Never told anyone incase they thought I was insane.

I absolutely bet you DO matter!
It's so easy to feel completely taken for granted sometimes.
To the 'takers', can you start by saying ''No''?

I hope so.

People can be very selfish.

I like licking and biting sponges 🤣🤣🙈

I did as a kid. I liked laying in the bath and chomping and sucking on a sponge that had being dipped in the bath water

Furrybutts · 16/10/2022 23:59

Also, I've always had a fear and dislike of cross dressing men. This has got worse the older I've got.
I couldn't ever go to a fancy dress party, pantomine, or anywhere else I might come into contact with one.

Oh yes!
Delicious!
{Until mum said ''I clean the bath with that sponge''}

Something about the texture, filled with warm water..Delicious!

Haven't done that since childhood though.

I love buttons! When my brother and I were 4 and 6 we spent our weekend sweet money on buttons instead having recently moved to a town with a great haberdashery 🤣

Thighdentitycrisis · 17/10/2022 00:03

I had Hep C and was too ashamed to tell anyone. I was untreated for over 10 years.

Mum's ''Button tin'' was full of fascinating buttons going back to 19th C. There were all sorts in there, they slid about like smooth beans, and being allowed to play with them was a real treat.
I don't think she has them now :(

Are you ok now?

tunnocksreturns2019 · 17/10/2022 00:05

It’s six years nearly since my DH died. I don’t go on about it in real life. But EVERY TIME I share something to do with this or other difficulties in my life with friends they leap straight to suggesting counselling.

It’s okay to not be okay. But really, no one wants to hear it. They’d like a professional to deal with it, and a continually cheerful friend.
